MLB DFS Picks & Playbook For Today’s Games: Wednesday, April 10

Published: Apr 10, 2024
Happy hump day, FA Nation! Today we have seven games on the main slate starting at 6:40pm ET on DraftKings and FanDuel, but this slate may end up shortened due to weather issues with the biggest concern being in the matchup between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. This is also a notable slate due to the potential debut of the top prospect in baseball Jackson Holliday who was called up by the Baltimore Orioles for today's game against the Boston Red Sox.
So, with that said, make sure you check out the playbook below before you get your lineups in on DraftKings and FanDuel as we present to you our MLB DFS picks for today, April 10th.

MLB Weather Today, April 10
New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves
- GAME HAS BEEN PPD.
Milwaukee Brewers vs Cincinnati Reds
- Another game with weather concerns that could cause a delayed start if not an outright PPD. Make sure you are around to for updates as we close in on roster lock.
Baltimore Orioles vs Boston Red Sox
- Depending on where this one goes we could see no rain or rain in the mid-to-later innings of this game. That said, there is not expected to be heavy rain in the area based on reports.
MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
Ok, so, we don't have an official Orioles lineup out yet but Jackson Holliday is min-price $2,000 on DraftKings for this slate. Unfortunately, Holliday is not in the FanDuel player pool, but for DK users, that type of value is going to be huge when it comes to creating salary cap space.
I also really like Colton Cowser here who is only $2,400 on DraftKings and $2,100 on FanDuel. That salary relief will help you spend up, specifically at pitching where I think most will look today with Marcus Stroman taking on the Marlins and Cody Bradford drawing the Athletics.
With the Braves likely off the slate due to weather, we can look at the Rangers against Ross Stripling, Reds against Wade Miley and Yankees against Ryan Weathers as top stack options.
Recommended MLB DFS Starting Pitchers
Top Options For Strikeouts
- Dylan Cease vs Chicago Cubs
- Hunter Greene vs Milwaukee Brewers
- Cody Bradford vs Oakland Athletics
- Marcus Stroman vs Miami Marlins
Best Odds For A Win
Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Cody Bradford, SP Texas Rangers
Picking on the Oakland Athletics will be a popular venture for us this season and Bradford has had two straight stellar starts for the Rangers to begin the season. The Rangers southpaw has finished with over 20 fantasy points in both starts this season and is coming off a dominant performance against a strong Astros lineup where he held them to just one run over 7.2 innings pitched.
Marcus Stroman, SP New York Yankees
The Marlins have a couple bats in their lineup that can do damage but for the most part this is a lineup we will look to attack this season. Stroman has yet to allow an earned run as a member of the Yankees, tossing 12 shutout innings over his first two starts of the season with 10 strikeouts.
Dylan Cease, SP San Diego Padres
This is not a slate with value pitching to target so spending up will be the way to go tonight on DraftKings. Cease has pitched against the Giants in both of his starts this season and faired well. We know the book here, he has elite strikeout potential but is not efficient, will walk hitters and that sometimes limits his ability to pitch deeper into games. I do like that he is home here and the Cubs do have some swing and miss in their lineup.
Recommended MLB DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
- San Diego Padres vs Kyle Hendricks
- Cincinnati Reds vs Wade Miley
- New York Yankees vs Ryan Weathers
- Houston Astros vs Seth Lugo
- Texas Rangers vs Ross Stripling
Core MLB DFS Hitters
Jackson Holliday, SS Baltimore Orioles
Ok, so this could obviously change if he isn't in the Orioles lineup today BUT lets assume he is for now because the top prospect in baseball is just $2,000 on DraftKings this evening and as I discussed in the strategy section, there isn't a value pitcher I'm looking to use on tonight's slate which means I need to be saving money. At Triple-A, Holliday hit .333 with two homers and an OPS of 1.077 which earned his callup. UPDATE: Holliday is hitting 9th for the O's here today.
Spencer Steer, OF Cincinnati Reds
Steer was a breakout play for the Reds last season and he is red hot to start the season, hitting .400 with three homers and an OPS of 1.264. He faces a southpaw in Wade Miley who is making his season debut for the Brewers here this evening. Steer had a .550 slugging percentage and a .238 ISO against lefties last season and in limited at bats this season he owns a .600 slugging percentage with a .333 ISO against southpaws.
Juan Soto, OF New York Yankees
I get that this matchup is lefty-vs-lefty but I don't think that really matters with a hitter like Soto and Ryan Weather is not long for this game anyway if we are to trust the projections. Soto is off to a nice start to his Yankee career, hitting .348 with two homers and an OPS of .978.
Brice Turang, 2B Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers second basemen continues to turn heads, getting on base at a nice clip and utilizing that base stealing ability. On the year he's hitting .353 with four doubles, one home run and seven stolen bases. He faces Hunter Greene here today and with the righty on the mound the potential for stealing bases is increased. Greene can be a dominant starter given his velocity but he's also shown to be wild at times which can lead to some big innings against.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
Endy Rodriguez (finger) had his splint removed this week.
Rodriguez suffered a lacerated right index finger on April 14th. Now that he is out of his splint, he “is playing catch and doing a slightly modified swing.” Once he can progress to taking full swings, we’ll have a better sense of the timeline for his return.
