Thursday's MLB DFS slate features 7 games which will make for some interesting roster construction today both on DraftKings and FanDuel.

This slate has some elite pitching and a lot of expensive plays which will make roster construction and game stacks quite interesting when it comes to our lineup builds.

There are lots of great players to talk about, so let’s just dive right into today’s playbook and some of my favorite MLB DFS picks for the day!

MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

For a medium sized slate there are some good pitching options on this slate. The cover of today's playbook being Tanner Houck should give you an idea of where I'm going when it comes to spending. With the quality of starting pitching on the slate it does limit where we are going to go with our lineup construction. Using hitters from the Red Sox and Astros will likely be popular plays today.

Core MLB DFS Pitchers

Tanner Houck, Boston Red Sox

I mean, the Oakland A's are an easy team to pick on, especially with one of the league's top pitchers. Yes, Houck has struggled in each of his last two starts but the A's are among the leagues worst offenses against right-handed pitching. Both Brayan Bello and Nick Pivetta had double-digit strikeout performances against the A's in this series and Houck himself had 10 strikeouts against the A's when they faced eachother earlier in the year.

Max Fried, Atlanta Braves

I don't generally look to challenge the Diamondbacks with left-handed pitching but we saw Chris Sale mow them down the other day and Fried has been pretty good this season, last start not withstanding. He is also +150 to get the win here today with the Braves being road favorites against the Diamondbacks.

Shane Baz, Tampa Bay Rays

I'm buying into the talent here today. Baz made his debut and picked up a quality start with six strikeouts against a tough Texas Rangers lineup.

Today he has a home start against a struggling New York Yankees team in a game where I think he has a good shot at a win given the pitcher opposite of him has been horrendous on the road over the last two years in Nestor Cortes. Baz has elite strikeout upside and has long been a top pitching prospect in baseball.

Shohei Ohtani, 1B/OF Los Angeles Dodgers

I understand that Aaron Nola is the pitcher on the mound here but Nola has been getting hit around of late, allowing at least three earned runs in four of the last five games. He has allowed five homers in that five game stretch which includes two homers allowed to the Braves in his most recent start.

I don't necessarily believe in the “he's due” theory but Ohtani hasn't homered in three games and this game would keep him around his seasonal pace for home runs.

Isaac Paredes, 1B/3B Tampa Bay Rays

This is more about the pitcher than the hitter here as Yankees starter Nestor Cortes really struggles on the road, owning an ERA close to 6.00.

Paredes has a ton of power and hits left-handed pitching really well, owing a .397 wOBA with a .218 ISO against southpaws. He also has decent BVP against Cortes, going 6-for-18 with two homers and a double in his career.

Ceddanne Rafaela, SS/OF Boston Red Sox

One of the favorites to win rookie of the year right now, Rafaela offers both power and speed upside and while most of his power comes against left-handed pitching, he is more likely to run with a right-handed pitcher on the mound. Hitting ninth has not stopped his production as he has 45 runs and 51 RBI on the season.

Jon Singleton, 1B Houston Astros

Lefty hitters own a .309 average, .741 slugging percentage and .471 wOBA against Roddery Munoz who is allowing 4.6 HR/9 to left-handed hitters.

Enter Jon Singleton to the chat, as the Astros first basemen is hitting .314 with an OPS of .914 over the last 10 games.
