Luis Medina dropped to 1-7 after allowing four runs -- three earned -- in five innings Sunday against the Blue Jays.
Aside from George Springer's leadoff homer in the first, Medina wasn't hit very hard. The problem is that he walked seven batters, making things way too easy for the Blue Jays. His ERA stands at 6.84 after 10 outings as a starter and bulk guy. His spot is anything but safe, but he actually is improving; he had an 8.19 ERA on June 3.
Luis Medina allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss against the Rays.
Medina was able to get out of trouble in the first inning with a nice defensive play and a pickoff at second base. A single and a double in the second inning put a runner on third before a sacrifice fly scored the first run for the Rays. A single and two doubles would bring in a pair of runs before Medina's day was done with two outs in the fifth inning. One inherited runner would come around to score. The 24-year-old right-hander holds a 7.55 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts across 39 1/3 innings. He's in line for a matchup against the Guardians in Cleveland on Tuesday.
Luis Medina picked up his first career victory on Friday night, limiting the Brewers to two runs on three hits over his five innings of work.
The right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the night while issuing three free passes. Medina came on after Sam Moll worked a scoreless first inning as an opener. He gave up two runs in his first inning of work -- on run-scoring doubles by Blake Perkins and Luis Urias -- but settled in to finish his day with four scoreless frames. Medina generated nine swings and misses on 92 pitches in the ballgame, registering an elite CSW of 36 percent. He'll look to do further damage control on his 7.53 ERA and 1.56 WHIP when he takes on the Rays on Wednesday.
Luis Medina struggled in a losing effort against the Astros on Sunday afternoon, allowing five runs on seven hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.
The rookie right-hander walked three while punching out five batters in the contest. His trouble in this one stemmed from his inability to keep the ball in the yard -- serving up a three-run homer to Jake Meyers in the fourth inning, and then back-to-back solo shots to Chas McCormick and Jose Altuve in the seventh. Medina generated eight swings and misses on 86 pitches in the contest, registering a CSW of just 21 percent. He'll look to improve upon his 6.83 ERA and 1.37 WHIP when he does battle against the Marlins in Miami on Saturday.
