MLB Weather Today, 6/9

There's no bad weather around the MLB today!

MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

First and foremost, I'd consider rolling with Grayson Rodriguez as the top pitcher on the slate.

While he hasn't been as consistent as some of the other top-tier pitchers, Rodriguez has a much better matchup against a Rays lineup that has struggled immensely against righties over the last month.

Tarik Skubal, Shota Imanaga, and Cole Ragans don't have as good of a matchup against their opposition. I'm not saying those three will pitch poorly; I think Rodriguez is the better player at his price on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Top Options For Strikeouts

Best Odds For A Win

Core MLB DFS Pitchers

Grayson Rodriguez, Baltimore Orioles

Grayson Rodriguez has an enticing matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays. Over the last 30 days, the Rays have struck out 30.7% of the time as a projected lineup against righties.

The lineup has six batters with at least 25% strikeout rates against righties in the last 30 days.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez has struck out 26.3% of batters this season and has had above-average success against righties and lefties this season.

In addition, the Rays have also hit just a .112 ISO and wOBA of .260 against righties in the last month. They've struggled against righties every which way and now have to face one of the best up-and-coming right-handed starters in the MLB.

I'd choose Rodriguez over Tarik Skubal, Shota Imanaga, Cole Ragans, and Jared Jones

Bailey Ober, Minnesota Twins

Although Bailey Ober has struggled against right-handed hitters throughout the season, he's still managed 25.2% of strikeouts against righties.

Ultimately, he has a really good matchup against the Pirates today. The Pirates' projected lineup has struck out 30.9% of the time against righties in the last month. But even more importantly, the five righties in the projected lineup have combined to strike out 32.6% of the time.

Ober should rack up a bunch of strikeouts against the Pirates. There's no guarantee that he'll be able to limit power. But if the Pirates struggle to put the ball in play, it'll be hard to scratch out runs.

Keaton Winn, San Francisco Giants

Keaton Winn is making his return from the injured list. Therefore, it's unclear if he'll have any limitations or restrictions in today's game against the Rangers.

With that said, the Rangers have hit a .089 ISO and wOBA of .233 against righties over the last 30 days. No batter has even hit an ISO of above .185 on the Rangers against righties, and seven of the nine projected bats have hit an ISO of .125 or lower.

Winn won't pile up strikeouts against the Rangers. But he could at least pitch a five-inning shutout for the Giants. At a low-tier price, that's an option if you want to go that route. But again, remember, we are unclear if he has restrictions in his first game back. It's a gamble.

Trevor Rogers, Miami Marlins

Honestly, Trevor Rogers shouldn't be this low. While he's only added 17.5% of strikeouts, he's still held teams to 49.7% of ground balls and only 20.5% of fly balls.

Furthermore, he's allowed just 9.3% of walks and has thrown an average of 87 pitches an outing.

Rogers is better than his 5.68 ERA and has potential in today's matchup against the Guardians.

After all, Cleveland's projected lineup has hit a .151 ISO and wOBA of .318 with 24.3% of strikeouts against lefties in the last month.

Only Jose Ramirez and David Fry have shown off some consistent power against lefties in the lineup. There aren't that many threats against lefties in Cleveland's lineup.

Therefore, if you want to gamble again, I don't hate a potential Rogers play today.

Recommended MLB DFS Hitters

Highest Expected Run Totals

Core MLB DFS Hitters

Ozzie Albies, 2B, Marcell Ozuna, OF, Adam Duvall, OF, Atlanta Braves

We don't have a significant sample size from lefty DJ Herz of the Nationals. However, against his first 21 batters, Herz allowed a .263 ISO and wOBA of .456. The left-hander also allowed a .294 ISO and wOBA of .444 to his first 18 righties and struck out only 16.7% of them.

Herz has some potential. But it'll take some time for him to develop.

Meanwhile, Ozzie Albies has smashed a .185 ISO and wOBA of .349 against his last 28 lefties. He's only struck out 14.3% of the time against lefties in the previous 30 days.

On the other hand, Marcell Ozuna has lacked power against lefties over the last 30 days. But he's one of the only consistent power sluggers in Atlanta's lineup. He's got the potential to catch a Herz mistake for a home run.

Finally, Adam Duvall is the hottest hitter against lefties. He's smoked a .520 ISO and wOBA of .528 with only 13.3% of strikeouts against lefties in the last 30 days.

You'll also want to consider Matt Olson despite the lefty-lefty matchup. But I'd worry about fitting in the righties before adding Olson to your lineup.

Mike Tauchman, OF, Cody Bellinger, OF, Ian Happ, OF, Chicago Cubs

Consider stacking up the lefties in the Chicago Cubs' lineup today.

They're facing Frankie Montas of the Reds, who has only struck out 16% of lefties this season.

Meanwhile, Montas has also allowed a .193 ISO and wOBA of .367 to his first 125 lefties faced this season.

Montas has allowed 27% of line drives and has induced below 42% of ground balls against lefties. He's also allowed nearly 45% of hard contact and has earned below 10% of swinging strikes against lefties.

He'll go up against Mike Tauchman at the top of the order. He's a lefty with a .164 ISO and wOBA of .346 against righties in the last month.

Cody Bellinger has also hit a .226 ISO and wOBA of .356 against righties in the last 30 days. He's only struck out 18.8% of the time in the previous 30 days against righties.

Finally, Ian Happ has recently been the hottest lefty in the Cubs lineup. He's hit a .356 ISO and wOBA of .365 against righties last month.

Masyn Winn, St. Louis Cardinals

At the top of the order, Masyn Winn has smashed a .353 ISO and wOBA of .461 against lefties over the last month.

Winn doesn't work walks, but he's hit 33.3% of line drives against lefties in the last month while also hitting 51.9% of hard contact. He's also rarely hit ground balls against lefties in the previous 30 days.

Meanwhile, Winn will face Ty Blach of the Rockies, a lefty with just 11.4% of strikeouts this season. He's also allowed a .183 ISO and wOBA of .393 to 124 righties this year.

At the top of the order, Winn can do a lot of damage and could even get five plate appearances.

Zach McKinstry, SS, Riley Greene, OF, Detroit Tigers

The Tigers are in line to face Bryse Wilson of the Milwaukee Brewers. Wilson is a right-handed pitcher who has allowed a .267 ISO and wOBA of .414 to his first 98 lefties this season.

He's also struck out only 18.4% of lefty batters and has allowed 27.9% of line drives with 27.9% of fly balls against lefties this season.

Meanwhile, he'll take on Riley Greene, who has added a .151 ISO and wOBA of .326 against righties in the last month. It's nothing spectacular, but he's also hit the highest hard-hit rate against righties in the previous month in the Tigers lineup.

Another lefty to consider is Zach McKinstry. McKinstry has hit a .200 ISO with only 21.2% of strikeouts. He's also held ground balls to 30.4% and has smashed 30.4% of line drives with 30.4% of fly balls.

If McKinstry puts the ball in play, we should get some loud contact.
