2025 Player Outlook
Not only did Winn play above average defense last season, he also hit 15 home runs and stole 11 bases while slashing .267/314/.416. There is a ton of upside for Winn in the stolen base department, as he posted lofty numbers there during his time in the minors, but a .314 OBP last season limited his chances. While he stole nine bases through his first 86 games, a .247 average and .291 OBP resulted in just two stolen bases over his final 62 games. Last year’s home run total (15) seems to be right around his ceiling at the big-league level, unless he starts to make more hard contact and loft more baseballs, but I’m buying into more SBs for Winn in 2025. If he can take a few more walks or just tick that OBP up a few notches, he could surpass 20 stolen bases this year, while also hitting 12-15 home runs and a .255+ average as the everyday leadoff hitter for the Cards.

Masyn Winn homered in the first and ninth innings as the Cardinals blanked the Reds 6-0 in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
Winn’s homer off Brady Singer accounted for the game’s only run until the ninth, when Victor Scott II, Lars Nootbaar and Winn hit consecutive homers off Alexis Díaz. The homers were Winn’s second and third of the year. Winn was batting second for the first time this season today. That’s typically been Willson Contreras’s spot, but Contreras was dropped to fifth in spite of his improved production in recent weeks (he came into the day with a .359 average in his previous 10 games). The move up the lineup definitely makes Winn worth grabbing in mixed leagues in which he’s available.
Cardinals activated SS Masyn Winn from the 10-day injured list.
Winn is back in the Cardinals lineup 11 days after leaving a game with back spasms. Brandon Donovan and Thomas Saggese had been sharing time at short in his absence. With Nolan Gorman performing well, Donovan is due more outfield time now, though Gorman will also surely DH a fair amount to open up second base for Donovan. Saggese doesn’t figure to have much of a role until someone else gets hurt.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s Derrick Goold reports Masyn Winn (back) is likely to return for Tuesday’s game against the Braves.
Goold adds that Winn has wrapped up a minor league rehab assignment and appears poised to be activated when first eligible ahead of Tuesday’s showdown in Atlanta. The 23-year-old shortstop struggled throughout spring training and got off to a frosty start to the season, hitting .222 (10-for-45) with one homer in 13 games before hitting the injured list with a back issue. Hopefully the time off allowed him to reset from a mental and physical standpoint.
Masyn Winn (back) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis on Friday.
He’ll play there through the weekend and assuming everything goes well he would then be cleared to rejoin the Cardinals on Tuesday when he’s first eligible. Prior to landing on the injured list, the 23-year-old shortstop had been hitting .222/.314/.289 with one homer and three RBI through his first 13 ballgames.
