Today’s MLB action features some great starting pitching with the likes of Tarik Skubal, Luis Gil, Cole Ragans and Freddy Peralta all on the hill. But we also have plenty of offense to look out for with the Pittsburgh Pirates facing the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field and a classic battle in the AL East with the New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox rivalry on center stage.

We’ll dive into the latest Vegas odds and lines and see how much value we can find on today’s betting card.

MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 6/14

We finally kicked that mid-week swoon with a strong day of MLB predictions on Thursday. The day started a little rough with a couple of pitcher props missing, but we rebounded in style thanks to the Minnesota Twins, Garrett Crochet and some late action. Always tough on the mood when you lose your first two bets, but when you cash the next six, everything seems right with the world.

If the full-unit bet is too much for you – yes, the swings from a bad day can be tough to take sometimes – then simply lower your stakes. Bet a half-unit per and work yourself up. You have to always remain comfortable and accept that losses will happen. If they didn’t, I wouldn’t be writing this column for you every day. I’d be on my yacht somewhere in the south of France! But let’s focus on Friday’s MLB slate, put some action into play and rebuild our bankroll.

  • Yesterday’s Record: 6-2
  • Season Record: 224-204-5
  • Bankroll: -3.36 units

Yankees vs. Red Sox Prediction: Friday, June 14

Though the rivalry isn’t what it once was, there is always some excitement surrounding a Yankees vs. Red Sox game. Unfortunately for Boston, most of the excitement is on the Yankees end. Luis Gil allowed three runs over 5.2 innings to the Dodgers last weekend but allowed no more than one run in any of his previous seven starts.

He’s been incredible and while the Red Sox have a .323 wOBA against righthanded pitching, it also comes with a 24.3-percent strikeout rate. They’ve actually been striking out more than that lately, posting a 27.2-percent K-rate over the past week. They’re not hitting for much in the way of power either, so the advantage goes to Gil.

On the other side, do we even need to say anything about what the Yankees bats are doing right now? They lead the league in wOBA (.345) and wRC+ (127) against righthanded pitching and Boston starter Brayan Bello has been struggling lately, allowing nine earned runs on 17 hits and six walks against the Tigers and White Sox in his last two starts. The Yankees should tee off on him tonight and keep the momentum rolling against an overworked bullpen, which is where we start today’s MLB best bets.

Phillies vs. Orioles Prediction: Friday, June 14

This is an interesting matchup as I love both offenses, but only one of the starting pitchers. Lefty Ranger Suarez has been spectacular this season, posting a 1.81 ERA with a 0.85 WHIP and 85 strikeouts over just 79.2 innings.

Baltimore has hit well against weaker lefthanded pitching, but that 23.7-percent strikeout rate really stands out to me. I’ll focus a portion of my MLB picks today on Suarez, as he should move through this order fairly efficiently and while maybe he gives up a run or two, he should contain their bats. It’s not that I don’t like Kyle Bradish, because I think the score stays down early on.

He’s had some really strong outings working his way back from injury and save for one hiccup against the Rays, has allowed no more than two runs in any outing. As much as I like some of the Phillies bats, Bradish should be able to limit any potential damage.

Rays vs. Braves Prediction: Friday, June 14

Another strong pitching matchup I’m going to enjoy in tonight’s MLB predictions. Chris Sale should have a field day with this Rays lineup that strikes out 25.3-percent of the time against southpaws this season.

He had a real random rough outing against Oakland but has posted at least eight strikeouts in six of his last seven starts. I just don’t see the Rays catching up with him and even if they get to the Braves bullpen, it’s just not going to be enough. And I actually don’t mind Rays starter Zack Littell. He’s tossed three straight quality starts and has only allowed more than three runs in two of his 13 starts this season.

The Braves bats have not been the same since Ronald Acuna was lost for the season and over the last seven days, have posted just a .266 wOBA with a strikeout rate close to 25-percent. Should make for a nice pitchers’ duel.
