Patriots vs. Jaguars Predictions For NFL Week 7, Sunday 10/20
Some fans may remember that this Patriots vs. Jaguars matchup is actually an AFC Championship Game rematch! While it was from way back in 2018, it feels more like 1918 with how these teams have looked this season.
The two have a combined record of 2-10, as their 1-5 records have them tied for the worst teams in the entire NFL. Last week looked exceptionally rough, as New England lost by 20 on their home field, while Jacksonville just lost here in London by 19 points.
Given that these teams have been so difficult to back this season, the best bet from our Patriots vs. Jaguars predictions is going to focus on the total, but first, more on each team!
New England Patriots: Reason For Hope?
After upsetting the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, Pats fans had hope for a better-than-expected season. However, after four straight losses, they made the QB swap to rookie Drake Maye. Although New England never seemed to have a chance last Sunday, it was also against a now 5-1 Houston Texans team.
Whether you’re in the camp of believing in “moral wins” or not, Pats fans seem to have hope once again after seeing Maye throw for three touchdown passes. While that may not lead to a playoff season this year, it may lead to a bright future.
Jacksonville Jaguars: If Not Now, When?
Speaking of young QBs, Jags QB Trevor Lawrence was among those that led the charge of the new era of signal callers. That meant that he was due for his contract extension this past summer.
Jacksonville complied, making Lawrence the highest-paid player in the entire NFL on an annual basis at the time. Such an investment is what has made their 1-5 start so much more detrimental, and truthfully, if they lose to the Pats, we wouldn’t be shocked whatsoever to see head coach Doug Pederson be fired.
Patriots vs. Jaguars Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines
We mentioned that we’d also have the latest Patriots vs. Jaguars odds for you, and here are the latest line at BetMGM Sportsbook:
- Point Spread: New England Patriots +5.5 (-110) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars -5.5 (-110)
- Money Line: New England Patriots (+190) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (-250)
- Game Total (Over/Under): Over 43 (-110) vs. Under 43 (-110)
Patriots vs. Jaguars Predictions: Under 43 (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)
To expand on the Pederson comment just a bit - if the Jags hadn’t been staying in London for these back-to-back games, we’d bet that he’d have been fired after the 35-16 loss to the Chicago Bears last Sunday.
After all, we already saw the New York Jets fire Robert Saleh after their London loss, making him the third coach to be fired after a game over the pond. Even having mentioned all that, the Jags are nearly a touchdown favorite at some sportsbooks! Speaking of sportsbooks, BetMGM is providing us incredible value.
The total for this game is as low as 41.5 points elsewhere, which is a significant difference. Even still, we simply don’t expect many points in this game. This may even be the first Pats game with a total over 40, as they’ve had totals as low as 35 points this season.
That shouldn’t come as a surprise, as prior to last week, they had scored 10, 13 and three points in three straight games. Similarly, the Jags have scored more than 20 points just once the entire season!
While they’ve been allowing far too many points, how do teams attack them? Through the air - they allow the most yards per game in that regard. Well, the Pats are far from elite in that department, especially with a rookie QB under center.
Considering all of the above, we love under 43 points (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook) as the best bet from our Patriots vs. Jaguars predictions.
