With the 2024 NFL season on the horizon, there are plenty of notable injuries that players are already dealing with and trying to put behind them before things ramp up.

Here’s the latest NFL injury report from the offseason, all with a fantasy lean.

NFL Injury Report: 2024 Preseason

Offseason Injury Report: Quarterbacks

Joe Burrow Injury Update - Wrist

Less than six months after suffering a torn ligament in his throwing wrist, Joe Burrow was seen throwing a football at practice in May. He’s ready to roll heading into the 2024 campaign after missing seven games in ‘23.

Kirk Cousins Injury Update - Achilles

Much like Joe Burrow, reports are that Kirk Cousins is an all-systems-go heading into the year, but an Achilles injury for a 36-year-old quarterback is not ideal. It was his right Achilles, meaning his plant leg, so we’ll see if it’s a mental hurdle he’ll have to overcome. That could be one of two mental hurdles he’s dealing with considering they drafted Michael Penix Jr. number eight overall!

Aaron Rodgers Injury Update - Achilles

We just received confirmation from Jets owner Woody Johnson that Aaron Rodgers is looking good coming off his Achilles injury, but obviously take the video he posted with a grain of salt considering how slow motion it was. That said, Rodgers will have had a long time between the fourth play of the 2023 campaign and now. He should be close to 100% heading into camp and into the season.

Deshaun Watson Injury Update - Shoulder

We’re a few days removed from Andrew Berry, Browns GM, speaking with the NFL Insiders on NFL Network about how ahead of schedule Watson is. That said, he’s participating in seven-on-seven drills but he has not been cleared to fully practice. When the Browns open camp in late July, Watson should be good to go.

Daniel Jones Injury Update - ACL

Daniel Jones was asked by the media what he expects when training camp rolls around and he said he expects to be ready by day 1. Jones enters the year in a must-perform season, or he’s done as New York Giants quarterback.

Offseason Injury Report: Running Backs

Nick Chubb Injury Update - ACL/MCL

After tearing his MCL and ACL in Week 2 of the 2023 season, Nick Chubb has had a long road back to the field and his status for Week 1 of the ‘24 season is definitely in doubt. Chubb’s response to Chris Easterling of The Akron Beach Journal’s question about being ready for Week 1 was “We’ll see. I don’t know.” The reason it’s such a long process is that after his first surgery, it was revealed his ACL was ruptured and it required more surgery over a month later.

Miles Sanders Injury Update - Heel

Nothing about Miles Sanders’ minicamp injury seems serious. The team is being cautious with a nagging heel injury, per head coach Dave Canales.

J.K. Dobbins Injury Update - Achilles

Returning from an Achilles injury as a running back is very tough to do. This isn’t his first significant injury either as Dobbins tore his ACL a few years back as well. He was cleared back in late March for football activities, so he should be fine heading into camp.

Gus Edwards Injury Update - Undisclosed

It’s still unclear about what Edwards’ current injury is, but he is reportedly going to be 100% by the time training camp rolls around in late July. He was working on the side of minicamp with trainers and that’s the extent we know.

Jonathon Brooks Injury Update - ACL

Speaking with the media a little over a week ago, Panthers head coach Dave Canales said they would likely be easing Jonathon Brooks into things when training camp comes in late July. Brooks tore his ACL in college this past November.

Keaton Mitchell Injury Update - ACL

As head coach John Harbaugh said back in May, Keaton Mitchell won’t be ready for the training camp, nor will he be ready for the beginning of the regular season. He’ll be back sometime during the middle of the 2024 campaign.

Offseason Injury Report: Wide Receivers

Chris Olave Injury Update - Shoulder

The latest news on Chris Olave’s shoulder was that it was a minor injury, but we haven’t heard anything specific since. My assumption is that it is minor because he continued practicing after the injury but was wearing a non-contact injury while on the field.

Mike Williams Injury Update - ACL

If we listen to head coach Robert Salah about Williams’ timeline, he’s on the Breece Hall schedule from 2023. There are a few things about the Breece Hall schedule:

  1. He was ready for the regular season.
  2. He played less than 40% of the snaps in the first two weeks of 2023.
  3. He didn’t play more than 50% of the snaps until Week 5.

Williams said he should be ready for Week 1, and that is seemingly on track to play out.

Gabe Davis Injury Update - Knee

Gabe Davis is expected to be ready for training camp, but the knee injury that he was dealing with at the end of 2023 has hindered him throughout 2024 thus far. This is definitely something we’ll have to monitor if it’s STILL lingering.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Injury Update - Shoulder

There was a shoulder issue that arose in practice last week that forced him out of action, but the Seahawks have said it’s nothing serious.

Xavier Legette Injury Update - Hamstring

Head coach Dave Canales said that Legette would be practicing today if they were in season. His hamstring absence in minicamp is nothing to worry about.

Xavier Worthy Injury Update - Hamstring

It seems like Xavier Worthy’s hamstring will be a thing of the past when training camp rolls around according to head coach Andy Reid. He’s getting treatment and you need your 4.21 40-time speedster 100% so he doesn’t re-aggravate his hammy. We’ll see how cautiously the team handles the injury when camp opens up.

Khalil Shakir Injury Update - Lower Body

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane said he expects Shakir to be ready by the time camp rolls around, or at least near the beginning of camp.

Offseason Injury Report: Tight Ends

T.J. Hockenson Injury Update - ACL/MCL

Not getting surgery on his ACL until January is definitely not great for T.J. Hockenson’s early season prospects and there’s a chance he begins the season on PUP. Hockenson himself did an interview on NFL Network where he was noncommittal about a Week 5 return when the Vikings are in London, so the math is mathin’ here.

Tyler Higbee Injury Update - ACL/MCL

Although the Rams haven’t officially ruled Tyler Higbee out for any of the regular season, we can read the tea leaves. He suffered an ACL/MCL tear in January, so that would be a very fast turnaround if he was ready for the regular season. The Rams also shilled out $22.5M to Cody Parkinson this offseason a year after extending Tyler HigbeeThe PUP list seems very likely to start the year.

Greg Dulcich Injury Update - Hamstring

There has been a long list of injuries for Greg Dulcich and the hamstring has been a consistent issue. Late in May, head coach Sean Payton said it’s very likely he’s going to be ready for training camp.

Since it’s still the offseason, these advantage injuries will impact your fantasy football draft more than they will with any type of lineup management decisions. Once the season kicks off, follow our weekly NFL Injury Report to take advantage of the latest fantasy football injury news and advice.
