NFL Offseason Injury Report - 2024 Fantasy Football Draft Guide
With the 2024 NFL season on the horizon, there are plenty of notable injuries that players are already dealing with and trying to put behind them before things ramp up.
Here’s the latest NFL injury report from the offseason, all with a fantasy lean.
NFL Injury Report: 2024 Preseason
Offseason Injury Report: Quarterbacks
Justin Herbert Injury Update - Foot
On the broadcast of the Chargers' last preseason game, Dan Fouts was quoted as saying “He told me last night that his right foot has healed completely and is no longer an issue.” That's pretty straight forward, but we'll see if this is something that gets aggravated during the regular season.
J.J. McCarthy Injury Update - Knee
Unfortunately for the first-round pick, McCarthy's rookie campaign never had any legs under it after he tore his meniscus and will miss the entire 2024 campaign. Sam Darnold enters the season as the Vikings starting quarterback.
Offseason Injury Report: Running Backs
Jahmyr Gibbs Injury Update - Hamstring
After tweaking his hamstring during the preseason, Gibbs returned to practice and is trending in the right direction to be ready for Week 1, according to head coach Dan Campbell. Here's a video of Gibbs moving around really well from this past weekend.
Nick Chubb Injury Update - ACL/MCL
Update - Nick Chubb has officially been placed on the PUP list and will miss the first four weeks of the season.
After tearing his MCL and ACL in Week 2 of the 2023 season, Nick Chubb has had a long road back to the field and his status for Week 1 of the ‘24 season is definitely in doubt. Chubb’s response to Chris Easterling of The Akron Beach Journal’s question about being ready for Week 1 was “We’ll see. I don’t know.” The reason it’s such a long process is that after his first surgery, it was revealed his ACL was ruptured and it required more surgery over a month later.
Jonathon Brooks Injury Update - ACL
Update - Jonathon Brooks will begin the 2024 on the PUP list and he will miss at least the first four games of the season.
Speaking with the media a little over a week ago, Panthers head coach Dave Canales said they would likely be easing Jonathon Brooks into things when training camp comes in late July. Brooks tore his ACL in college this past November.
Jaylen Warren Injury Update - Hamstring
After pulling his hamstring in the Steelers' second preseason game, Warren has been sidelined and his Week 1 status has been in question, but it's now been reported he'll be back at practice this coming Monday, September 2nd, just in time for Week 1 to roll around.
Keaton Mitchell Injury Update - ACL
As head coach John Harbaugh said back in May, Keaton Mitchell won’t be ready for the training camp, nor will he be ready for the beginning of the regular season. He’ll be back sometime during the middle of the 2024 campaign.
AJ Dillon Injury Report - Neck
Dillon was officially placed on injured reserve and will miss the 2024-2025 season.
Offseason Injury Report: Wide Receivers
Puka Nacua Injury Update - Knee
Everyone, exhale. On Monday, August 26th, Puka Nacua was back on the practice field for the first time since injuring his knee on August 4th in a joint practice with the Chargers. There's no word just yet on his level of participation, but here's a video of him back in some capacity.
Mike Williams Injury Update - ACL
Update - The Jets have removed Mike Williams from the PUP list and he's begun practicing with the team after passing the team's physical. When Williams last spoke with reporters, he told them he expects to be a full-go for Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers on September 9th.
If we listen to head coach Robert Salah about Williams’ timeline, he’s on the Breece Hall schedule from 2023. There are a few things about the Breece Hall schedule:
- He was ready for the regular season.
- He played less than 40% of the snaps in the first two weeks of 2023.
- He didn’t play more than 50% of the snaps until Week 5.
Williams said he should be ready for Week 1, and that is seemingly on track to play out.
DeAndre Hopkins Injury Update - Knee
Head coach Brian Callahan said he's hopeful that Hopkins will be available for Week 1, but it'll all depend on his progress this week at practice.
Hollywood Brown Injury Update - Shoulder
Brown hurt his shoulder on the first play of the preseason and hasn't practiced since. His status for Week 1 is definitely in question and he's listed as doubtful to play. He did show up to his first practice since injuring his shoulder on Monday, August 26th, but he was not participating.
Keenan Allen Injury Update - Foot
The Bears don't sound overly concerned about this latest flair-up, but it's something to monitor. Allen is having foot issues due to his cleats. GM Ryan Poles said, “he should be fine.”
Christian Kirk Injury Update - Calf
After missing the previous two weeks of practice, Christian Kirk returned to practice on Monday, August 26th. He'll be good to go for Week 1 of the NFL season barring any sort of setback.
Jordan Addison Injury Update - Ankle
The last update we got on Addison's ankle injury was last week and it was that it was a significant sprain and will keep him sidelined for one-to-two weeks. That puts him on a potential timeline of next week, which right before the season.
Tyler Lockett Injury Update - Leg
Although he hasn't practiced in over a week nor played in any preseason games because of a leg injury, nobody in Seattle seems overly concerned about Lockett missing any actual time. Here was Lockett warming up before the Seahawks' preseason finale and catching passes a week later. He's seemingly fine heading into Week 1.
Odell Beckham. Injury Update - Undisclosed
Update - Beckham has officially been placed on PUP and he'll miss at least the first four weeks of the season.
Although there haven't been any reports on what the injury is, we're unsure if Beckham is going to start the season on the active roster. Head coach Mike McDaniel seems optimistic that Beckham will be activated for Week 1.
Rashid Shaheed Injury Update - Toe
After not playing in the team's final two preseason games, head coach Dennis Allen told the media he does not view this unspecified toe injury as anything that is going to impact him long-term. The Saints open their season on Sunday, September 8th.
Rondale Moore Injury Update - Knee
The season has unfortunately come to an end before it ever began for Rondale Moore as he was carted off the field in joint practice with the Dolphins. He is out for the season.
Curtis Samuel Injury Update - Toe
The turf toe monster has gotten to Curtis Samuel and has put his Week 1 status in question. It's been reported via head coach Sean McDermott that have a good chance of being healthy enough to play when the season kicks off. McDermott has not committed fully to Samuel playing, however.
Offseason Injury Report: Tight Ends
Mark Andrews Injury Update - Undisclosed
We're unsure what the injury is that is keeping Andrews out of practice, but since he was part of a car accident. That happened on August 14th and we haven't seen Andrews since. Although head coach John Harbaugh said it's minor because we haven't seen him as we near the start of the season is a little bit of a concern.
Sam LaPorta Injury Update - Hamstring
Just like Jahmyr Gibbs, Sam LaPorta was back on the practice field this past weekend as he's getting past a hamstring tweak. He should be good to go for Week 1.
David Njoku Injury Update - Soreness
Since August 15th, Dvaid Njoku has been held out of almost everything the Browns have done and it's been cited by head coach Kevin Stefanski as soreness. The concern has grown as the days have gone on but Stefanski told the media that Njoku will practice on Tuesday, which eases our minds a bit that this isn't anything serious.
Dallas Goedert Injury Update - Oblique
The Eagles have kept Goedert out of practice for the past week with an oblique injury. The Eagles open the season next Friday, September 6th, and Goedert is likely being kept out for precautionary reasons.
T.J. Hockenson Injury Update - ACL/MCL
Update - Hockenson has officially been placed on PUP and he'll miss at least the first four weeks of the season.
Not getting surgery on his ACL until January is not great for T.J. Hockenson’s early season prospects and there’s a chance he begins the season on PUP. Hockenson himself did an interview on NFL Network where he was noncommittal about a Week 5 return when the Vikings are in London, so the math is mathin’ here.
Tyler Higbee Injury Update - ACL/MCL
Update - Higbee has officially been placed on PUP and he'll miss at least the first four weeks of the season.
Although the Rams haven’t officially ruled Tyler Higbee out for any of the regular season, we can read the tea leaves. He suffered an ACL/MCL tear in January, so that would be a very fast turnaround if he was ready for the regular season. The Rams also shilled out $22.5M to Cody Parkinson this offseason a year after extending Tyler Higbee. The PUP list seems very likely to start the year.
Greg Dulcich Injury Update - Hamstring
There has been a long list of injuries for Greg Dulcich and the hamstring has been a consistent issue. Late in May, head coach Sean Payton said it’s very likely he’s going to be ready for training camp.
