MLB DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, September 3
We lost a great pitcher in Justin Steele due to elbow issues, but pitching is still strong with the likes of Chris Sale, Luis Castillo, and Carlos Rodon taking the hill. There are elite hitters as well with Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, Marcell Ozuna, and Vladimir Guerrero stepping into the box.
That said, let's take a look at the MLB DFS projections while we bust into our favorite MLB DFS picks today!
MLB Weather Today, 9/3
Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves
- The only thing worth noting here is the wind blowing in from left field Atlanta at 10 MPH.

Recommended MLB DFS Starting Pitchers
Top Options For Strikeouts
- Chris Sale, Atlanta Braves - 8.5 (-130)
- Luis Castillo, Seattle Mariners - 6.5 (-135)
- Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh Pirates - 6.5 (-130)
- Carlos Rodon, New York Yankees - 6.5 (+105)
Best Odds For A Win
- Chris Sale, Atlanta Braves (-155)
- Luis Castillo, Seattle Mariners (+105)
- Carlos Rodon, New York Yankees (+130)
- Ryne Nelson, Arizona Diamondbacks (+135)
- Walker Buehler, Los Angeles Dodgers (+140)
Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Chris Sale, Atlanta Braves
The best pitcher on the slate is Chris Sale and there is a large gap between him and the field. He has a strikeout prop of 8.5 that has heavy juice on the over and is -155 to outright win, which is absurd. He has a 50 FP ceiling in this spot against a team that has a 26.9% K-rate while being bottom-10 in OPS, wOBA, and wRC+ despite having the best home-field advantage in baseball.
Carlos Rodon, New York Yankees
It’s been a bag of mixed results for Carlos Rodon but he’s topped 20 DKP in five of his last seven starts overall. He has one of the better K-rate’s on the slate as it’s just under 26% and well over one per inning. It’s a very good spot for Rodon considering Texas is a bottom-10 offense in OPS and wOBA against left-handed pitching. They have a 22.4% K-rate this year against lefties, which is 13th in the league.
Brady Singer, Kansas City Royals
The more I look into this spot for today's MLB DFS picks, the more I’m interested in Brady Singer. He faces the Guardians at home and that’s relevant because of how good he’s been in Kansas City. His ERA is a full run lower in KC at 2.88, .49 points lower on BAA, 2% increase on his K-rate, and a 5% increase on his groundball rate. Cleveland is 21st in OPS and wOBA against right-handed pitching this year as well. He’s going to be extremely low-owned compared to SP2’s like Rodon and Nelson.
Ryne Nelson, Arizona Diamondbacks
I love Ryne Nelson today and he’s likely going to be a popular SP2 at just 7.2K on DraftKings. He goes into San Francisco tonight and faces a bottom-10 offense against right-handed pitching in basically every category. Pair that with the 23% K-rate and Nelson makes a ton of sense. Over his last 11 starts, Nelson has a 2.77 ERA, .221 BAA, 24.9% K-rate, and a 43% groundball rate.
Recommended MLB DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
- Los Angeles Dodgers - 5.6
- Atlanta Braves - 5.1
- New York Yankees - 4.9
- Milwaukee Brewers - 4.8
Core MLB DFS Hitters
Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernandez, Will Smith, Mookie Betts & Tommy Edman, Los Angeles Dodgers
The Reid Detmers problem has been a home run problem and that problem is definitely a problem against the Dodgers because they are, in fact, a problem. He's allowed 28 home runs between the majors and minors, 22 coming against righties. But that doesn't mean lefties have an issue hitting Detmers. Just at the major league level, LHH had a .258 ISO and .362 wOBA against him before his demotion. There is a long list of Dodgers I'd play in tonight's MLB DFS picks because they hit southpaws as well as anyone in baseball.
Vladimir Guerrero, Toronto Blue Jays
Tyler Phillips has straight-up been baaaad against right-handed bats. Righties have a .303 ISO and .408 wOBA against him and the expected numbers match up with the actual numbers, he hasn't been unlucky. Guerrero has been simply incredible for months now and his numbers against righties have been great as well. He has a .219 ISO and .395 wOBA against them and his expected numbers suggest he's been unlucky. One of the top spends of the day.
Bryce Harper, & Kyle Schwarber, Bryson Stott & Brandon Marsh, Philadelphia Phillies
Let's face facts. Chris Bassitt has a lefty issue and that's been on full display for multiple seasons now. The .166 ISO he's allowed is lucky considering his xISO is .204 and the .361 wOBA is slightly lower than the .368 xwOBA. Even with some luck on his side, lefties are hitting .287, a 40% flyball rate, and a 45% hard-hit rate. Insert all the Phillies lefties here and you can make an appealing stack. Harper and Schwarber are expensive but are elite against righties. Stott's been great over the last two weeks posting a .316 AVG and .821 OPS. Marsh is very cheap and has a .199 ISO and .339 wOBA against righties.
Willy Adames & Jackson Chourio, Milwaukee Brewers
I know I shouldn't like Willy Adames for MLB DFS picks here because it's a lefty, but man the run he's on makes that part really hard. It's not hard to like Jackson Chourio, that parts easy. What I will say is the numbers for both Adames and Chourio against lefties are worst on the surface and a lot of the expected numbers are very solid. They match up with Steven Matz who hasn't pitched in the majors since April and righties have a .182 xISO and .392 wOBA against him this season.
Lawrence Butler, JJ Bleday & Seth Brown, Oakland Athletics
Lefty power and road starts is where you take advantage of Luis Castillo and that's what we have here. Lefty bats have a .227 ISO and .362 wOBA against Castillo this season. He's allowed 1.93 HR/9, 5.07 xFIP, 42.9% flyball rate, .500 SLG%, and a .353 wOBA to lefties on the road this year. Butler has a .253 ISO and .351 wOBA against righties, Bleday is at .202 ISO and .341 wOBA, and Brown, since the All-Star break is hitting .295 with an .838 OPS and .191 ISO.
Geraldo Perdomo, Arizona Diamondbacks
It was a really good month of August for Perdomo and it's been a good second half in general. In August, Perdomo had an OPS that cleared .800 and since the break he's right around that number. He's hitting .293 against lefties on the year and there's a chance, if Ketel Marte doesn't return today, that Perdomo is leading off.
Mickey Moniak, Los Angeles Angels
Walker Buehler has flat out been a bad pitcher this year and right now, Mickey Moniak is on fire and is very, very cheap. Lefties have a .241 ISO and .414 wOBA against him. From March to July, Moniak hit six home runs. In August alone, he hit six home runs while batting .359 with an OPS over 1.100. He has a .560 SLG%, .881 OPS, and .372 wOBA since the All-Star break.

Player News
Shota Imanaga left Tuesday’s start against the Pirates with a trainer.
Imanaga appeared to be in some obvious discomfort after giving up a leadoff double to Andrew McCutchen in the sixth inning and departed with a trainer following a visit from Cubs manager Craig Counsell. The -year-old lefty struck out three over five shutout innings to open the contest. It would be a significant loss for fantasy managers if he were to require an extended absence. There should be an update on his status shortly.
Diamondbacks SS prospect Jordan Lawlar went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBI on Tuesday for Triple-A Reno.
Lawlar continues adding extra defensive versatility to his profile, spending time at both second and third base in recent weeks, and appears to be on the precipice of making it back to the big leagues. The 22-year-old projects as a potential five-category impact fantasy contributor thanks to his power/speed combination. He’s hitting .364 (39-for-107) with 20 extra-base hits — six home runs — and 12 stolen bases through 27 games this season for Triple-A Reno. It’s time.
Twins OF prospect Walker Jenkins (ankle) received a cortisone injection and isn’t expected to return to minor league game action until June.
Jenkins has dealt with an array of physical issues since being selected fifth overall in the 2023 MLB Draft. The immense talent and upside is undeniable, but he’s struggled to stay on the field at times. The 20-year-old top prospect isn’t expected to return to game action at Double-A Wichita until early June after receiving an injection to address lingering ankle soreness. He’s a top-10 prospect for dynasty purposes, but the lost development time is starting to become a minor concern.
Josh Lowe (oblique) took batting practice on Tuesday.
Lowe took on-field batting practice off a pitching machine for the first time since suffering a Grade 2 right oblique strain back on Opening Day. He’s expected to progress to facing live pitching on Friday and could potentially kick of a minor league rehab assignment this weekend in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League. The 27-year-old fantasy standout is likely to require a couple weeks of game action to get back up to speed, but it sounds like he could potentially return by mid-May, barring any setbacks.
Giants signed OF Cal Mitchell to a minor league contract.
It didn’t take Mitchell long to find a new home. The 26-year-old outfielder latches on with the Giants just a couple days after being cut loose by the White Sox. He was hitting .111 (3-for-27) in 10 games at the Triple-A level this season.
Mariners signed RHP Bryan Shaw to a minor league contract.
Shaw fortifies Seattle’s relief depth at Triple-A Tacoma after failing to make the Reds’ season-opening roster in spring training. The 37-year-old journeyman righty has made a whopping 796 appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2011.
