Mickey Moniak smacked a two-run triple in the fourth inning on Sunday night, propelling the Rockies to a 3-1 victory over the Nationals in the nightcap of their doubleheader.
Moniak turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage with a two-out, two-run triple off of right-hander Brad Lord in the fourth inning. That was the 26-year-old outfielder’s only hit in five at-bats on the evening, but proved to be the difference in the ballgame. On the season, he’s now slashing .231/.310/.558 with three homers and nine RBI through his first 58 plate appearances.
Mickey Moniak went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI against the Nationals on Saturday.
Moniak went yard for the second straight game, this time taking MacKenzie Gore deep for a two-run shot to put the Rockies on the board in the second inning. He was later hit by a pitch in the seventh and scored on a triple by Sean Bouchard. He walked again in the same inning and scored in an eight-run frame for Colorado. Moniak then tripled in the ninth in a comeback attempt to plate a run with the Rockies down two. The 26-year-old outfielder is hitting .256/.347/.605 with three homers and ten runs scored across 49 plate appearances.
Mickey Moniak will hit ninth and play left field against the Phillies on Wednesday.
A little bit of irony that Moniak will make his first start of the 2025 season against the team that made him the first-overall selection back in 2016. Moniak is still just 26, but he hasn’t shown anything that suggest there’s fantasy potential in his left-handed bat; even playing in a home park like Coors Field. Jordan Beck gets the day off against Zack Wheeler and the Phillies.
Mickey Moniak is not in the starting lineup for Friday’s game against the Rays.
Moniak just signed Thursday, so it’s not a huge surprise the 26-year-old doesn’t get a starting nod, and that’s before considering how poorly he’s played at the highest level. Jordan Beck is the starting left fielder against Ryan Pepiot and the Rays.
