MLB DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, July 9
MLB Weather Today, 7/9
There's a chance for a delay with a potential rain shower approaching mid-game.
There will also likely be a delay due to rain in this game.
POSTPONED
Don't be surprised if this game doesn't play at all, either.
MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
Ultimately, I'd avoid the Rockies-Reds game from a pitching standpoint. I also wouldn't touch the Twins-White Sox game in case of a potential postponement.
I also believe Zac Gallen is the best pitcher on tonight's slate and think there are plenty of good lower-tier options for bats if you want to add Gallen.
Recommended MLB DFS Starting Pitchers
Top Options For Strikeouts
- Chris Sale (6.5, -160) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
- Nick Lodolo (6.5, -140) vs. Colorado Rockies
- Max Scherzer (6.5, +125) vs. Los Angeles Angels
- Zac Gallen (5.5, -175) vs. Atlanta Braves
- Bailey Ober (5.5, -170) vs. Chicago White Sox
Best Odds For A Win
- Logan Gilbert (-105) vs. Seattle Mariners
- Max Scherzer (-115) vs. Los Angeles Angels
- Brayan Bello (+125) vs. Oakland Athletics
- Chris Sale (+125) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
- Colin Rea (+130) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
- Nick Lodolo (+140) vs. Colorado Rockies
Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Max Scherzer, Texas Rangers
Max Scherzer has only faced 63 batters this season. However, he's held those 63 batters to a .249 wOBA and has limited walks to 4.8%. His strikeout rate isn't high, but he'll still likely put together a quality start.
After all, he's facing an Angels lineup that has hit a .127 ISO and wOBA of .277 against righties over the last 30 days. If you're looking for more potential with strikeouts, Scherzer isn't your guy. But six innings and less than three runs seems likely.
Zac Gallen, Arizona Diamondbacks
Zac Gallen has held his last 38 batters to a .000 ISO and wOBA of .190 with 56.5% of ground balls and 28.9% of strikeouts. He'll face a Braves projected lineup that has only hit a .157 ISO and wOBA of .285. Ultimately, the Braves' lineup isn't nearly as fierce as it was last season.
The Braves' projected lineup has struck out 26.5% of the time against righties over the last month and has only walked 6.7%. Gallen looks fresh since returning from a hamstring injury and is probably the best value play on the board. Gallen is below Sale, Blano, Gilbert, Scherzer, and Irvin on DraftKings. That's wild.
Brayan Bello, Boston Red Sox
While the Red Sox game could have a delay, you'll still want to consider Brayan Bello. Bello has struck out 28% of righties over the last 30 days and will likely face an Oakland lineup with six righties in it. Those six righties have struck out 29.9% of the time over the last 30 days, giving Bello a very high chance of earning six or more strikeouts.
Plus, Bello has allowed just a .150 ISO over the last month and has induced nearly 52% of ground balls. He's improving, and there's no better matchup than the Athletics when things are clicking.
Jose Quintana, New York Mets
If you're looking for a low-tier pitcher who should get a high amount of outs without allowing many runs, it's Jose Quintana. Quintana has held his last 86 righties to a .068 ISO and wOBA of .257. He's also kept walks to 9.3% against righties in that time and has earned more than 42% of ground balls against righties.
Meanwhile, he'll face a Nationals lineup that has hit a .101 ISO and wOBA of .278 over the last month. The projected lineup also has seven righties, which is ideal for Quintana. Washington puts the ball in play against lefties, but it's not hard contact. The lineup has hit a 3.2% barrel percentage with 50% of ground balls. Quintana should cruise.
Recommended MLB DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
- Boston Red Sox (5.5, -125) vs. Oakland Athletics
- Houston Astros (4.5, -130) vs. Miami Marlins
- Texas Rangers (4.5, -125) vs. Los Angeles Angels
- Baltimore Orioles (4.5, -120) vs. Chicago Cubs
- Cincinnati Reds (4.5, -115) vs. Colorado Rockies
- Milwaukee Brewers (4.5, -115) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Core MLB DFS Hitters
Jarren Duran, OF, David Hamilton, SS, Rafael Devers, 3B, Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox-Athletics game could reach a delay, but it'll likely finish. Therefore, I'd still rock with the left-handed bats in the Red Sox lineup. They're facing Joey Estes of the Athletics, who has allowed a .264 ISO and wOBA of .410 to his last 57 lefties. Those lefties have hit 38.8% of line drives and only 20.4% of ground balls while striking out just 7% of the time against Estes.
Meanwhile, Jarren Duran has hit a .268 ISO and wOBA of .401, David Hamilton has slugged a .235 ISO and wOBA of .324, and Rafael Devers has added a .411 ISO and woBA of .502 with only 13.8% of strikeouts. All three could be in for massive days against Estes.
Christian Yelich, OF, Milwaukee Brewers
The Pirates will likely pitch Josh Fleming as an opener and Quinn Priester for most of the work. Priester will head to the big league mound for the first time in over a month. He's a righty who allowed a .212 ISO and wOBA of .395 to his first 75 lefties. Priester rarely struck out lefties this year, earning only 8% of strikeouts against lefties. He also walked 12% of lefties this season.
On the other hand, Christian Yelich, a lefty, has been red-hot for the Brewers against righties. He's hit a .266 ISO and wOBA of .457 with only 16.4% of strikeouts. Consider Yelich for one of your outfield spots. Meanwhile, Fleming has also allowed a .225 ISO and wOBA of .453 to his first 45 lefties this season. No matter who Yelich faces, he'll have an advantage.
Wyatt Langford, OF, Adolis Garcia, OF, Texas Rangers
It's never a bad idea to fade Roansy Contreras when he's facing a right-handed batter. Against 90 righties this season, Contreras has allowed a .260 ISO and wOBA of .391. He's also walked 11.1% of batters and has allowed 44.6% of fly balls, with only 33.9% of ground balls to righties.
Wyatt Langford is starting to heat up and has hit a .145 ISO with a wOBA of .358. Then there's Adolis Garcia, who has smashed a .180 ISO and a wOBA of .313. Both righties have a lot of potential to do damage tonight.
Luke Raley, OF, Seattle Mariners
Luke Raley has nailed a .279 ISO and wOBA of .343 against his last 72 righties. Meanwhile, he'll take on Adam Mazur of the Padres, who has allowed a .273 ISO and wOBA of .490 to his previous 55 lefties.
Mazur has walked 16.4% of lefties and only added 10.9% of strikeouts against lefties over the last month. He's also given up 32.5% of line drives and has induced only 32.5% of ground balls. Consider Raley tonight. He could provide a lot of power tonight.
