UPDATED 8/23 @ 9:29am ET

Depending on your fantasy baseball league’s setup, you could be now entering the playoffs, or maybe you’re heading down the home stretch of the regular season. Nonetheless, we need to stay on top of the latest MLB injury report for the big leagues so we can set our lineups accordingly!

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds lost Tyler Glasnow and Hunter Greene respectively to the injured list, while the Atlanta Braves hold their breath on star slugger Austin Riley. With Pete Fairbanks heading to the injured list for the Rays, Edwin Uceta becomes an interesting fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for those looking for saves, holds and strikeouts.

MLB Injury Report: Starting Pitchers

Tyler Glasnow, Los Angeles Dodgers - Elbow

Glasnow is dealing with some tendinitis in his pitching elbow, and the team has placed him on the injured list.

Hunter Greene, Cincinnati Reds - Elbow

Greene reported some elbow soreness in the middle of last week, and the team placed him on the IL a few days later. Greene is up to 143.1 IP on the year, a career high at the major league level, and he’s posted a 2.83 ERA and 1.02 WHIP across 24 starts.

Justin Verlander, Houston Astros - Neck

Assuming there are no setbacks, Verlander will return to the rotation and start on Wednesday, August 21st.

Jared Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates - Lat

Jones is expected to make one more rehab appearance before rejoining Pittsburgh’s rotation. He’s been knocked around a bit in his two rehab starts thus far, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits across six innings of work.

Zack Littell, Tampa Bay Rays - Shoulder

Littell is heading to the IL with some shoulder fatigue, though based on his results of late, you wouldn’t know it. He’s allowed just three earned runs over his last four starts, but was removed after just 68 pitches in his last outing on August 14 and the below image shows a downward trend in pitch velocity:

Jose Soriano, Los Angeles Angels - Arm

Soriano is battling some arm fatigue, and the Angels have placed him on the IL. Including time in the minors, Soriano’s previous career-high workload in professional baseball was 82.1 IP back in 2019. He pitched just 65.1 IP last year, and is currently at 113 IP this year. Therefore, not all that much of a surprise that some fatigue is getting to him.

Ranger Suarez, Philadelphia Phillies - Back

ADDED 8/23: All signs point to Suarez returning to the mound on Saturday. His last start came on July 22.

Tyler Mahle, Texas Rangers - Shoulder

ADDED 8/21: Mahle was placed on the IL with shoulder stiffness. He's made just three starts since returning from Tommy John surgery.

Zach Eflin, Baltimore Orioles - Shoulder

ADDED 8/21: Eflin was placed on the IL with inflammation in his shoulder.

Luis Gil, New York Yankees - Back

UPDATED 8/23: Gil was placed on the IL.

ADDED 8/21: Gil was removed from his start on Tuesday night with tightness in his lower back.

Alex Cobb, Cleveland Guardians - Finger

ADDED 8/23: Cobb was placed on the injured list earlier in the week due to a torn fingernail on his pitching hand.

MLB Injury Report: Relievers

Pete Fairbanks, Tampa Bay Rays - Lat

Fairbanks was removed from his appearance on Sunday due to some pain/discomfort in his right lat, and the team will place him on the injured list.

Ryan Pressly, Houston Astros - Back

Pressly was placed on the IL due to a strain in his lower back. He last pitched on August 13 and had allowed an earned run in each of his four appearances before hitting the injured list.

MLB Injury Report: Hitters

Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers - Finger

UPDATED 8/19: Freeman is going to attempt to play through a hairline fracture in his finger.

Freeman is dealing with a banged-up finger, and while X-rays came back negative, the team is sending him for a CT scan. Consider him day-to-day for the time being, but an IL stint might be in his future, depending on the results of the additional testing.

Ketel Marte, Arizona Diamondbacks - Ankle

UPDATED 8/21: Marte has been placed on the injured list with a left ankle sprain.

Marte missed a couple of games last week with his ankle ailment, and when pinch hitting on Sunday, he seems to have reaggravated it. Don’t be surprised if he misses a couple of games to begin this scoring period.

Austin Riley, Atlanta Braves - Hand

UPDATED 8/19: Further tests revealed that there's a fracture in Riley's right hand. The expectation is that he'll be out for 6-8 weeks.

Riley was hit by a pitch on his hand and was later removed from the game. It was reported that X-rays and CT scans were inconclusive, leaving his status moving forward a bit in question.

Alex Bregman, Houston Astros - Elbow

Bregman apparently slept wrong, and it caused his elbow to swell up, forcing him out of action for the past couple of days. They don’t expect him to head to the IL at this juncture, and the hope is that he’s in the lineup for most of this series with Boston.

Jazz Chisholm, New York Yankees - Elbow

ADDED 8/23: The team believes Chisholm is very close to returning, and there's a possibility he doesn't require a rehab assignment.

Chisholm was placed on the IL with his UCL injury, but there’s growing optimism that he’ll be able to return immediately once his 10 days on the shelf are up. This situation is fluid for now, but things are trending up to say the least.

Jorge Soler, Atlanta Braves - Hamstring

UPDATED 8/23: Soler served as a pinch hitter on 8/20 and 8/21, but has not been in the starting lineup since August 14.

An ailing hamstring continues to keep Soler out of the starting lineup for the Braves. He last played on August 14.

Ha-Seong Kim, San Diego Padres - Shoulder

ADDED 8/23: Kim was placed on the IL earlier this week with shoulder inflammation. It is worth noting that the inflammation is in his throwing shoulder.
