2023 Fantasy Baseball MLB Injury Report Week 10
Updated: June 10
MLB Injury Updates Hitters
Aaron Judge, OF, New York Yankees (Toe)
After getting tests done on his toe, Judge is dealing with a sprain and was put on the injured list and we don't know when we'll see him back on the field. The good news is that his toe isn't broken, and he may only need a week or two of recovery. He can first come off the injured list early next week, but he'll likely need more time to heal.
Harrison Bader, OF, New York Yankees (Hamstring)
Bader was put on the injured list with a strained hamstring a week and a half ago and reports are out that he'll need more time to recover. The Yankees are dealing with multiple outfield injuries and we don't know if we'll see Bader play in the Yankees’ series against the Red Sox.
Yordan Alvarez, OF, Houston Astros (Oblique)
Alvarez had to be removed from the Astros last game due to oblique soreness and Houston may opt to give him the next couple of weeks off. We don't know how bad the oblique injury is yet, but if you have him, prepare to be without him. It's hard to believe he'll play this weekend against Cleveland. He had homered in two of his last four games.
Pete Alonso, 1B, New York Mets (Wrist)
Alonso is going to the injured list after getting hit in the wrist by a pitch earlier in the week which is a tremendous blow as he's the leading home run hitter in the MLB. After he got hit, the Mets downplayed the injury and then he got more tests on his wrist and we should know just how bad the damage is over the next couple of days. Mark Vientos started in Alonso's place at first base last night.
Eloy Jimenez, OF, Chicago White Sox (Leg)
Jimenez was taken out against the Yankees late in the second game of the doubleheader after injuring his leg. We'll have to see if his leg pain goes away before the start of Chicago's weekend series versus the Marlins.
Byron Buxton, OF, Minnesota Twins (Ribs)
Buxton will be out until early next week at the earliest after being put on the IL with injured ribs. He got hit by a pitch in the ribcage last week. Buxton has been able to stay healthy for the most part this year, but he's hitting .220 at the plate.
Jorge Polanco, 2B, Minnesota Twins (Hamstring)
Polanco had to be removed from the Twins last game after he pulled his hamstring, and we'll have to see if the pain goes down before the Twins start their series against the Blue Jays, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Twins hold him out of the lineup if he's not feeling 100 percent.
Alec Bohm, 1B, Philadelphia Phillies (Hamstring)
We haven't seen Bohm in the Phillies lineup in June, but reports are out that his hamstring is all healed up and we should see him appear in the Phillies series versus the Dodgers this weekend. Bohm has 37 RBI this season.
Yandy Diaz, 1B, Tampa Bay Rays (Hip)
Diaz has missed the Rays last couple of games with a sore hip, but they haven't put him on the injured list just yet and if the pain goes down over the next day, we could see him back in the lineup against the Rangers this weekend.
Brandon Lowe, 2B, Tampa Bay Rays (Back)
Lowe has an injured disc in his back, and we won't see him back in action until the end of the month at the earliest. Lowe is hitting under .200 this season and this timetable could certainly be pushed back. Taylor Walls has played second base for Tampa Bay in their last two games.
Adam Duvall, OF, Boston Red Sox (Wrist)
Duvall hasn't played in two months, but he is being activated from the 60-day injured list and we should see him play this weekend against the Yankees. Prior to the injury, Duvall had hit in seven of the eight games he played in.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Jr. Jr, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks (Groin)
Gurriel hasn't taken the field in almost a week as he's nursing a groin injury. He hasn't been put on the injured list just yet but being that he continues to be out of the lineup, Arizona will let him rest up for a couple of weeks. Gurriel is hitting over .300 this season. Pavin Smith will continue playing more in the outfield until Gurriel is ready to return.
Jake Fraley, OF, Cincinnati Reds (Wrist)
Fraley was hit in the wrist by a pitch earlier this week and we haven't seen him play since. Consider him day-to-day for now as we don't know if he'll be active for the start of the Reds-Cardinals series. TJ Hopkins could continue to see more action in the outfield until Fraley is ready to return. Nick Senzel is also sidelined with a knee injury
Kevin Kiermaier, OF, Toronto Blue Jays (Wrist)
Kiermaier was hit in the wrist by a pitch in the Blue Jays last game and he was taken out of the game and tests revealed no major damage on his wrist and we'll have to see if he needs a game or two off to let the sting go away. The Blue Jays start their series against Minnesota on Friday.
Patrick Bailey, C, San Francisco Giants (Neck)
Bailey has a stiff neck and he's missed the Giants last two games and we don't know if he'll be ready to return on Friday when the Giants start their series against the Cubs. Blake Sabol will continue starting behind the plate if Bailey needs more time to recover.
Xander Bogaerts, SS, San Diego Padres (Wrist)
Bogaerts has been dealing with a sore wrist for a few days now and he missed the Padres' last game. There’s a chance he may need to sit for another game or two with this wrist issue. If you’re in a fantasy baseball league with weekly roster moves, you’ll need to watch this situation closely. Ha-Seong Kim started at shortstop on Sunday for San Diego.
Anthony Rendon, 3B, Los Angeles Angels (Groin)
It’s been over three weeks since we last saw Rendon in the Angels lineup, but new reports indicate that he’s just about ready to return to action. We should see him back on the field sometime this week as his groin injury has healed.
Riley Greene, OF, Detroit Tigers (Fibula)
The good news is that the latest reports tell us that Greene’s fibula isn’t as damaged as originally reported because stress fractures in sports could take multiple months to overcome. The bad news is Greene could still miss two months with this injury, but his season isn’t over or in jeopardy of being over.
Willy Adames, SS, Milwaukee Brewers (Concussion)
Adames has been dealing with a concussion for almost two weeks, but it’s looking like he’s over it and just about ready to return to action. We’re hearing that he should be back in the lineup by the end of the week.
Nelson Cruz, UTIL, San Diego Padres (Hamstring)
Cruz isn’t an everyday player for San Diego, but this is still a notable injury. The Padres put him on the Injured List over the weekend with a hamstring injury. We haven’t seen him appear in June yet and he’ll be out until at least this weekend.
Lars Nootbaar, OF, St. Louis Cardinals (Back)
Nootbaar was put on the Injured List late last week and he’ll be out for a few more days with a back injury. Tommy Edman could continue helping out in the outfield until he’s ready to return. Oscar Mercado is another option for the outfield, but the Cardinals haven’t been starting him.
Joey Gallo, 1B/OF, Minnesota Twins (Hamstring)
Gallo was put on the Injured List over the weekend with a strained hamstring. We won’t see him back in the Twins lineup for another week.
TJ Friedl, OF, Cincinnati Reds (Hamstring)
Friedl hurt his hamstring last week and he was put on the Injured List over the weekend. We won’t see him back on the field until this upcoming weekend at the earliest.
MLB Injury Updates Pitchers
Jacob deGrom, SP, Texas Rangers (Elbow)
deGrom's first season with the Rangers ends after just six starts. He will have Tommy John surgery on his elbow. This isn't the first time he's had this surgery, but his season is over and we won't see him back for around a year.
Max Fried, SP, Atlanta Braves (Forearm)
Fried was transferred to the 60-day injured list earlier this week as he's dealing with a badly strained forearm and it's looking like we won't see him back in action until right after the All-Star break. Fried has started in just five games this season.
Justin Steele, SP, Chicago Cubs (Forearm)
We haven't seen Steele pitch in June as he's been nursing an injured forearm and according to new reports out of the Chicago Tribune, Steele should be ready to take the mound again in the middle of the month and he's about a week away from returning to action. Steele has had an excellent season as he sits with a 2.65 ERA.
Nestor Cortes, SP, New York Yankees (Shoulder)
Cortes was put on the injured list with a shoulder injury and he'll be out for at least another week and a half. He got his shoulder medicated earlier in the week and the Yankees will let him rest. His shoulder is sprained and he'll likely need more time on the shelf than just one stint on the injured list.
Hunter Greene, SP, Cincinnati Reds (Hip)
We've been watching Greene's hip pain all week to see if he would be placed on the injured list, but instead Greene's hip has healed, and he will start for the Reds this weekend against the Cardinals. Greene has struck out 88 batters this season.
Edward Cabrera, SP, Miami Marlins (Hand)
Cabrera has a blister on his hand and we'll have to see if the Marlins end up shelving him for a few weeks. Cabrera was taken out of his last start after being on the mound for five innings against the Royals.
Alex Cobb, SP, San Francisco Giants (Hip)
Cobb is dealing with a sore hip and left his last start. We'll have to see if the Giants end up putting Cobb on the injured list or if they'll let him rest until his next start comes up again in the rotation before making a decision. He's struck out at least seven batters in three of his last four outings.
Noah Syndergaard, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers (Finger)
Syndergaard will miss the next few weeks of action after the Dodgers put him on the injured list with a blister on his finger. He's had a horrible season as he sports a 7.16 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP.
Alex Faedo, SP, Detroit Tigers (Finger)
Faedo got work done on his finger earlier in the week and we haven't seen him pitch in June. We don't know when we'll see him back on the mound. It would be hard to believe that he'll be ready to return in the next week.
Jose Alvarado, RP, Philadelphia Phillies (Elbow)
We haven't seen Alvarado pitch in over a month due to swelling in his elbow, but reports are out that he's ready to return to the Phillies bullpen and he should be active for their series against the Dodgers this weekend.
Eduardo Rodriguez, SP, Detroit Tigers (Finger)
Rodriguez’s finger is badly injured and we might not see him pitch again until late July. We’re waiting on more clarity but these types of injuries at the tip of the finger could take a while to heal. Who knows if he’ll be 100 percent again when he does come back. Rodriguez won’t be pitching again until after the All-Star break and hopefully can return before August.
Marco Gonzales, SP, Seattle Mariners (Forearm)
We won’t see Gonzales back on the mound until late June. The Mariners put him on the Injured List over the weekend with a strained forearm.
