2025 Player Outlook

Gurriel has built a consistent profile outside of a power outage back in 2022. He is a solid source of batting average as a career .279 hitter, but his 5.6 percent walk rate leaves him lacking in the OBP department. He has a chance for 20+ homers and 80+ RBI as a middle-of-the-order threat for Arizona.

Gurriel’s day off means both Jake McCarthy and Alek Thomas are in the lineup at the same time for the first time, with Thomas in center. Those two had each started two games in center thus far. Gurriel is off to a 4-for-19 start as the D-backs’ No. 3 hitter.

The Diamondbacks had just cut their deficit to two runs on a two-run double by Geraldo Perdomo when Gurriel strolled to the dish against Eli Morgan. He jumped on a first-pitch fastball, pulverizing a 416-foot (107.5 mph EV) two-run shot that tied the game at 6-6. The 31-year-old outfielder also singled in the ballgame, finishing the afternoon 2-for-5. He’s now hitting .211 (4-for-19) with one long ball and three RBI on the season.
