The 2023 MLB season has already seen several MLB top prospects get the call to the majors and become popular fantasy baseball waiver wire adds. Tanner Bibee and Logan Allen recently got the call-up for the Cleveland Guardians and have been hot pickups on the fantasy baseball waiver wire. A few more MLB rookies will be making their MLB debuts soon and could be waiver wire pickups this week as well. We also have some players rising up the monthly fantasy baseball rankings that have been on rosters in recent seasons but have been held back by injuries or limited by the team. Injuries have been a big story this season with Luis Garcia, Yan Gomes, and Ronald Acuna Jr. being the latest additions to the MLB injury report on Monday night. Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Hitters

Nick Senzel, OF, Cincinnati Reds (18% – Yahoo, 2.8% – ESPN)

If you have played fantasy baseball for several years, you likely have fallen for Senzel at some point. The second overall pick in the 2016 draft has flashed some power and speed, but hasn't been able to stay healthy. After starting the season on the injured list, Senzel has been hitting with a slash line of .310/.385/.500 with 14 runs, three home runs, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases in 58 at-bats. 

Jarren Duran, OF, Boston Red Sox (37% – Yahoo, 10.3% – ESPN)

Duran has been mentioned here several times and is still available in too many formats. He batted fifth on Monday and continues to hit. He is slashing .404/.421/.692 with nine runs, two home runs, 11 RBI, and two stolen bases in 52 at-bats. Duran has cut down on the strikeouts, is hitting more fly balls, and hitting the ball hard more consistently.

LaMonte Wade Jr. Jr., 1B/OF, San Francisco Giants (9% – Yahoo, 3.2% – ESPN)

Wade has been leading off for the Giants and quietly putting up good numbers. He is slashing .260/.443/.575 with 12 runs, six home runs, nine RBI, and one stolen base. Wade is in the 92nd percentile of barrel rate.

Ezequiel Duran, 3B, Texas Rangers (13% – Yahoo, 1.2% – ESPN)

Duran has been playing with Corey Seager out due to injury and has performed well. He is slashing .302/.333/.444 with six runs, two home runs, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases. Duran is in the 85th percentile of hard-hit rate and 92nd percentile of sprint speed. 

Randal Grichuk, OF, Colorado Rockies (12% – Yahoo, 2.6% – ESPN)

Grichuk started the season on the injured list and returned on Saturday. He has gone 2-for-4 in each of his first two games. Grichuk disappointed in his first year with Colorado last season with 19 home runs and a .724 OPS. He performed well at Coors Field batting .307 with an .851 OPS, so using him at home is ideal.

Jose Siri, OF, Tampa Bay Rays (9% – Yahoo, 2.9% – ESPN)

Siri got off to a hot start before missing time with a hamstring injury. He hasn't done much since his return and will not play every day in a crowded Rays outfield, but he has power and speed. While Siri is striking out a lot, he has a 52.2% hard-hit rate and is in the 92nd percentile of sprint speed.

Edward Olivares, OF, Kansas City Royals (5% – Yahoo, 1.6% – ESPN)

Olivares shuffled between the minors and majors numerous times last season. Olivares has been playing every day and hitting well. He has a nine-game hitting streak and has multiple hits in three of the last five games. Olivares is slashing .289/.344/.482 with 12 runs, two home runs, eight RBI, and three stolen bases.

Eddie Rosario, OF, Atlanta Braves (4% – Yahoo, 2.4% – ESPN)

Rosario got off to an awful start and has begun to hit and the schedule sets up well in the week ahead. The Braves face five right-handed pitchers in their next six games, which means Rosario should play five games. He has eight hits in his last 23 at-bats with five runs, one double, one triple, two home runs, and seven RBI. Rosario has been hitting fifth and sixth lately.

 

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers

Tanner Bibee, SP, Cleveland Guardians (35% – Yahoo, 10.6% – ESPN)

Bibee will get another start against the Yankees on Tuesday and how long he remains in the starting rotation is a question mark. If he pitches well again and continues to excel, he should stay with the team. Bibee allowed one run on six hits, walked none, and allowed one run with eight strikeouts in his debut against the Rockies. In the minors, Bibee had a 2.13 ERA and 0.97 WHIP.

Logan Allen, SP, Cleveland Guardians (36% – Yahoo, 17.4% – ESPN)

Allen has made two starts for Cleveland and pitched well in both. Against the Marlins on April 23rd, Allen went six innings and allowed five hits, one run, walked one, and struck out eight. In a tougher matchup on the road in Boston, Allen pitched five innings and allowed four hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out eight. Allen's next start is scheduled at home against Minnesota.

Bailey Ober, SP, Minnesota Twins (23% – Yahoo, 6% ESPN)

Ober will be in the starting rotation for a bit with Tyler Mahle and Kenta Maeda out due to injuries. Last season, Ober had a 3.21 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, a 22.5% strikeout rate and a 4.8% walk rate in 56 innings with the Twins last season. He has made two starts and allowed seven hits, two runs, five walks, and struck out 10 over 11.1 innings. Ober isn't a big strikeout pitcher but tends to limit hard contact and keep the WHIP low.

Josiah Gray, SP, Washington Nationals (31% – Yahoo, 12% – ESPN)

Gray is throwing his fastball less and allowing fewer home runs. He has a 2.67 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, a 22% strikeout rate, and a 9.2% walk rate. The hard-hit percentage is down significantly and a career 2.17 HR/9 is down to 1.07 this season.

Gavin Stone, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers (19% – Yahoo, 3.9% – ESPN)

Stone is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and it remains to be seen if he's going to stay in the rotation or is up for a spot start, so keep that in mind. After a slow start, Stone has pitched well in his last two games, allowing one run with a 15:4 K:BB ratio over 9.2 innings. Stone had a 1.48 ERA in the minors last season.

Tyler Wells, SP, Baltimore Orioles (27% – Yahoo, 13.7% – ESPN)

Wells isn't flashy and doesn't get a lot of strikeouts, but he pitches for a good team in a favorable home park and has a 2.9% walk rate. He has a 2.79 ERA, 0.72 WHIP, and a 23:3 K:BB ratio in 29 innings. His next start is against the Royals on Tuesday.

Louie Varland, SP, Minnesota Twins, (2% – Yahoo, 0.2% – ESPN)

Varland is getting called up with Tyler Mahle and Kenta Maeda on the injured list. Varland made 23 starts between Double-A and Triple-A last season and had a 28% strikeout rate. In 15 innings in the minors this season, Varland had a 4.20 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 25:4 K:BB ratio. He made one start this season against the Yankees in April and pitched six innings, allowing six hits, three hits, one walk, and struck out eight.

Brandon Pfaadt, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks (25% – Yahoo, 6.3% ESPN)

Pfaadt hasn't been called up yet, but speculation is the call could come as soon as this week. If you're in a deeper league, now is the time to stash him. He had a 2.63 ERA in 10 starts at Triple-A last season. In 25.1 innings at Triple-A this season, Pfaadt has a 3.91 ERA with a 30:6 K:BB ratio over 25.1 innings.
