Orioles vs. Royals Predictions For MLB on MLB Network, 4/4
Not only is this a battle of young MLB stars, but it’s also a rematch of the 2024 American League Wild Card Round. Despite the O’s winning both regular season series against the Royals, they fell 2-0 when it mattered most in the playoffs.
Baltimore will also be the team heading into this matchup having just been on the diamond yesterday afternoon at Camden Yards hosting the Boston Red Sox. Of course, no rest is more than common and expected during the MLB season, but Kansas City having had yesterday off certainly doesn’t hurt.
What has hurt them through the first week of the season is losing both of their first two series, including a pivotal one against the Cleveland Guardians. Now sending Seth Lugo to the mound, they’re expecting to start this series with a victory.
Baltimore Orioles: Getting Their Revenge
Victories seemed more than reasonable for the O’s in the AL Wild Card Round last year, as they were among the overall favorites to represent the American League in the 2024 World Series. Losing the series, especially 2-0, was heartbreaking enough for O’s fans, but it was the way in which they went down.
Despite an absolutely lights out performance on the mound by Corbin Burnes (now an Arizona Diamondback), Baltimore lost the first game 1-0 and followed it up with a 2-1 loss. That was not the type of offensive output they displayed all season long, and with their lineup looking just as strong now, they expect to get their revenge this weekend.
Kansas City Royals: Wasting An Ace
Speaking of lights out performances, that’s exactly what the Royals got out of their pitching staff on Wednesday. We say staff rather than starter, because despite Cole Ragans’ impressive 10 strikeouts, they used a whopping eight total pitchers against the Milwaukee Brewers.
While they combined to record a remarkable 17 strikeouts, they still lost to the Brew Crew by a final of 3-2. However, Ragans may be listed as the team’s ace on paper, but it’s Seth Lugo who is coming off his breakout career season (at age 35) last year, and he’ll want his own revenge against the O’s tonight.

Orioles vs. Royals Best Bet: Jordan Westburg Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI At Underdog
We already spoiled things in terms of the best bet from our Orioles vs. Royals predictions being on a player prop market, and we’re focused on the Baltimore side of the game. We mentioned that Seth Lugo would also like some revenge, and that’s because he had a rather poor outing against the O’s last season.
Although he had a 16-9 record with a 3.00 ERA, Lugo lost his start against Baltimore last season by allowing four earned runs off nine hits. It was far from a historically bad performance, but it’s one that several O’s hitters can look back on fondly. One of which has been Baltimore’s leadoff man to start the season.
That would be Jordan Westburg, who we know isn’t exactly a household name. However, the second baseman is consistent, and when it comes to facing the Royals, he was actually the best Baltimore hitter last season in terms of efficiency. In other words, he had the best slugging percentage.
In 22 at-bats, Westburg posted a .727 slugging percentage and 1.075 OPS, and against Seth Lugo specifically, he went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Let’s also not forget that KC did just use up quite a bit of the bullpen, although it’s still early in the season and they were off yesterday.
Regardless, we still see plenty of value with Jordan Westburg over 1.5 H+R+RBI as the best bet from our Orioles vs. Royals predictions, and don’t worry, we’ll tie things back to the daily fantasy contests available at Underdog!
Orioles vs. Royals Injury Report & Starting Pitchers
The O’s entered the season without young star Gunnar Henderson, but he’s expected back any day now, including today. On the flip side, they lost Colton Cowser a few games ago, but he isn’t expected to miss much time.
As for the Royals, they are about as healthy as it gets in terms of guys we expected to see on the diamond, so the most notable absence would likely be Dairon Blanco on the 10-day IL. There’s been emphasis on Seth Lugo already, and you can see the Orioles vs. Royals starters for today here:
- Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher today: Dean Kremer (1-0, 8.44 ERA)
- Kansas City Royals starting pitcher today: Seth Lugo (0-0, 5.40 ERA)
