NHL Showdown Playbook May 22: Top DraftKings & FanDuel NHL DFS Picks
Monday's one-game NHL DFS slate is loaded with top-tier scorers as the Eastern Conference Finals of the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs continue. The Carolina Hurricanes come into this game needing a win to get back into this series after losing the first two games at home to the Panthers. The Hurricanes will need big performances from their stars if they want to claw their way back into this series. Look for players like Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas, Seth Jarvis and Brent Burns to have an impact in this game. For the Panthers Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov have been the difference in the first two games after scoring big goals, and Sergei Bobrovsky has been difficult to beat. NHL DFS Picks May 22
Highest Expected Goal Totals
Carolina Hurricanes: 2.8
Florida Panthers: 2.8
Carolina Hurricanes vs Florida Panthers
Players to target: Matthew Tkachuk, Brandon Montour, Aleksander Barkov, Jordan Martinook, Brent Burns, Martin Necas, Seth Jarvis
Matthew Tkachuk was the hero in game two scoring the overtime winner for the second consecutive game. Scoring has been hard to come by in this series and tonight might not be any different. Both Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov have scored in the first two games, and they should be considered top-tier options again today. I would also continue to look at Anthony Duclair who has been consistently providing value, and Sam Bennett has had some value in the mid-tier for the Panthers. The Hurricanes have really struggled to solve Sergei Bobrovsky, having only scored two goals in the first two games. Jordan Martinook has been a solid value play with his shots, but players like Sebastian Aho, and Martin Necas haven't bee productive yet in this series.
We saw the defensemen's results come out mostly as expected, especially if the teams didn't play two games worth of ice time. For the Panthers we should continue to see production from Brandon Montour, Gustav Forsling, and Aaron Ekblad, they will also play the majority of the minutes for them as well. With the Hurricanes they saw a useful performance from Brett Pesce, but I would look at players like Brent Burns who has a solid combination of ceiling and floor, or Jaccob Slavin who is known to block shots.
We saw great performances from both Sergei Bobrovsky and Antti Raanta in game two. I would keep an eye to see who the Hurricanes start in this game as I wouldn't have expected Andersen to sit game two after a steller game one performance but he did, and Raanta had a great game in game two so it could really be either goalie going today. I think Bobrovsky should continue to be a solid player in the series putting up a save percentage of 0.969 or better in both games.
The strategy for me today has only changed slightly. I continue to want to get Anthony Duclair and Jordan Martinook into my lineups so that I can try to fit both goalies and a top forward too. I also don't mind using a player like Jordan Staal in my captain spot after he put 7 shots on goal in game two. Sam Bennett is also a consideration as he has a solid shot floor and will see play a lot of minutes for the Panthers.
