Carolina is committed to re-signing Martin Necas, according to Hurricanes GM Don Waddell.
Necas is a pending restricted free agent. The Hurricanes moved Tony DeAngelo on Friday and gave Ethan Bear permission to speak to other teams as well. Necas was disappointed with his performance during the 2021-22 season.
Martin Necas didn't like the way he played this past season.
"I have to help the team more, I have to produce more," said Necas on Thursday. "That's what everyone expects from me and I didn't do that this year. It was disappointing." He generated 14 goals and 40 points in 78 games during the regular season after he had 14 markers and 41 points over 53 matches in 2020-21. Necas admitted that he took "a step back" and he's motivated to get back on track next campaign. He is set to become a restricted free agent this summer.
Martin Necas picked up his fifth assist of the playoffs.
That's two straight games for Necas who has yet to find the back of the net in 13 games in the post-season. Necas had 14 goals and 40 points in 78 regular season games this season and is a fringe fantasy asset at best in all but the deepest of pools.
Martin Necas is expected to be available to play on Monday in Game 1 against Boston.
Necas returned to the ice on Monday morning after he didn't skate on Saturday and Sunday for rest. He is projected to play alongside Jordan Martinook and Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
