NHL DFS Playbook November 19: Top DraftKings and FanDuel Picks
Published: Nov 19, 2023
Welcome to Sunday’s four-game NHL Slate. There are some elite options to choose from, like Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Frake Vatrano of the Anaheim Ducks, but we still need to find value elsewhere. You can build daily fantasy hockey lineups on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo Fantasy for Sunday, November 19th, but before you build those NHL daily fantasy lineups, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS projections, the NHL Value Finder, and the NHL DFS lineup generator. Let's look closer at the daily fantasy hockey top plays for tonight's NHL DFS Showdown slate.
NHL DFS Playbook November 19th
DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
We have a short four-game slate with a few teams playing on back-to-back nights. There should be no shortage of goals on this slate. We can find a ton of value in teams like Anaheim, Buffalo and Philadelphia, but we need to make sure we are targeting the correct players. Let’s take a look at some names you need to remember when building your NHL DFS lineup.
Recommended DFS Starting Goalies
Top Options for Saves
Adin Hill Vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Petr Mrazek Vs. Buffalo Sabres
Best Odds for a Win
Devon Levi Vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Samuel Ersson Vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
John Gibson Vs. St. Louis Blues
Favorite Goalies to Use for DFS Lineups
Devon Levi, G, Buffalo Sabres
It hasn’t been a great rookie season for Devon Levi, but if he does get the start, this is a great spot. Chicago is a below-average hockey team and they don’t score a ton of goals. They have some players who can do some damage, but it won’t be enough to beat Levi and steal the win from him.
John Gibson, G, Anaheim Ducks
No idea how John Gibson has gone back to being elite but we will take it. St Louis doesn’t have a great offence and they don’t generate a ton of shots. It could be a challenge for Gibson to hit value, but if he can play well and secure the win, then we are good.
Adin Hill, G, Vegas Golden Knights
This is a tough matchup for Adin Hill but I do think he can provide us with some value. He’s 8-1-1 on the season and has two shutouts in his last five starts. He got lit up against Montreal, but I’m not expecting a repeat of that. The Penguins have skill upfront, but Vegas is a good defensive team and Hill is above average. If anything, we can get him at low ownership, so if he does go off, we’re going straight to the top of the leaderboard.
Samuel Ersson, G, Philadelphia Flyers
I don’t love Samuel Ersson, but I hate the Columbus Blue Jackets even more. They are a terrible hockey team that just can’t score goals, so Ersson has a chance here to provide some value. He hasn’t been great this season and his $7900 price tag on DraftKings is more than I’d want to pay, but the matchup on paper is good and that’s all that matters.
Recommended DFS Skaters
Highest Expected Goal Totals
Buffalo Sabres Vs Petr Mrazek (3.8)
Philadelphia Flyers Vs. Spencer Martin (3.6)
Anaheim Ducks Vs. Joel Hofer (3.4)
Favorite Skaters to Use for DFS Lineups
Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh Penguins
I don’t care how tough the matchup is, Sidney Crosby is just on another level. He has nine goals and 16 points in his last ten games and is now up to 22 points on the season. He’s elite and he’s making everyone else around him that much better. Vegas is a good team, but Sid can’t be stopped.
Dylan Cozens, C, Buffalo Sabres
With Tage Thompson out of the lineup, Dylan Cozens has taken the top centre spot. He’s still trying to find his game this season but he has a great matchup on paper and we know the skill he possesses. I also love his $5100 price tag on DK.
Frank Vatrano, W, Anaheim Ducks
We have to finally admit it: Frank Vatrano is elite. The winger has 12 goals on the season and is averaging a point per game. It may not last all year, but right now, he’s elite and we need to treat him like that. Don’t worry about his price tag because all the man does is score goals.
Owen Tippett, W, Philadelphia Flyers
While everyone is looking at Travis Konecny, we will be looking at Owne Tippett. The Flyers winger has seven points in the last four games and is averaging over three shots per game. He’s finding a way to hit value when he’s in action and that is all we really care about.
Alex Pietrangelo, D, Vegas Golden Kngihts
I know it’s tough to roster the most expensive defenceman on a slate, but Alex Pietrangelo is the exception to the rule. Not only can he produce offensively, but he can shoot the puck and block shots. He’s been overshadowed by Shea Theodore of late, but that will only help keep his ownership low. We need players who can rack up fantasy points and Pietrangelo can do just that.
Ilya Lyubushkin, D, Anaheim Ducks
It’s going to be hit-or-miss with Ilya Lyubushkin. He has 13 blocked shots in the last three games, but in one of those, he laid a goose egg. Even against a St. Louis team that doesn’t shoot the puck much, the veteran defenceman is still a threat to block shots and his $3200 price tag is very appealing. I wouldn’t go all-out to get him into your lineup, but if you need to save some salary and aren't afraid to take a zero, then plug him in there.
