Thompson ripped a shot past Collin Delia to finally get the Sabres on the board in the third period. The 24-year-old could be a solid mid-round option pick in points-based leagues as he is still very early in his NHL career. Thompson finished the season with 38 goals and 68 points through 78 games.

Thompson has 37 goals and 67 points this season, easily smashing his previous best season in the NHL when he had eight goals and 14 points in 38 games last season. This year's effort has established Thompson as one of the best power forwards in the NHL and his talent will certainly help the Sabres in the future as they are finally looking like a team that could make the playoffs in the next year or two.

It has been a wonderful year for Thompson who has 36 goals this season and 63 points. Thompson is on a four-game points streak with four goals and an assist as everything finally has come together this season for the six-foot, seven-inch forward as his previous best was eight goals.

Thompson led the Sabres with his four shots on-goal, but with Brian Elliott stopping everything which came his way, those shots were ultimately destined for failure. Overall this season, Thompson has registered 32 goals and 58 points across 70 games played. He had gone five straight games with a point prior to coming up empty against the Lightning.
