NFL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets For Monday Night Football, 9/9

We’ve got so many great narratives for this game and it’s going to be tough not to incorporate them for your NFL best bets for Monday Night Football. On the Jets side you’ve got head coach Robert Saleh walking in with his team after spending years as the 49ers defensive coordinator while Aaron Odgers makes it back to the Bay Area where he played his college ball.

For the 49ers, it’s about continuity as Christian McCaffrey missed most of training camp with a calf issue while Brandon Aiyuk, who is apparently on a limited snap count, looks to knock the rust off after an extended absence due to a contract dispute. Let’s see how all of this affects the game’s outcome.

Monday Night Football Prediction: Monday, September 9th

The 49ers have been a perennial contender in the NFL since head coach Kyle Shanahan arrived and put his own stamp on the offense and the team’s personnel. The acquisition of Christian McCaffrey in 2022 really put them over the top, though, and all eyes will be on him. The offense really does run through him, so the question of whether or not he is fully healthy really does take center-stage.

Last year, he sat for much of the preseason with a calf issue as well, so there is definitely an element of the “Boy Who Cried Wolf, so look for Shanahan to get the ball into his primary playmaker’s hands early and often.

A heavy dose of McCaffrey with a splash of Jordan Mason should help open up the passing attack and we should see plenty of targets to Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and, yes, Aiyuk as well. The problem for the 49ers, however, is that the Jets secondary is easily one of the top units in the league.

Sauce Gardner is an absolute beast in coverage, D.J. Reed is rock solid and the team just rewarded Michael Carter II with a fat contract for his work as the primary slot-corner. This is definitely going to be a tough one for Brock Purdy.

On the Jets side, they get their mulligan from last year as Aaron Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury on one of the first few plays of the game, so now we’re getting our first look at what can be done through the air. He’s got Garrett Wilson to lead the way, old-reliable Allen Lazard and newly-acquired Mike Williams, though he is expected to be limited while he continues to recover from his knee injury. You also have tight end Tyler Conklin who could be a surprise this season.

But while Rodgers is definitely a key piece of the puzzle for New York, running back Breece Hall stands head and shoulders above the rest. He showed everyone last season that he is well past the recovery from his knee injury, and he is going to put the Niners run defense to the test. San Francisco ranked 15th in DVOA against the run last year, so Hall should be quite the challenge.

Both teams are well-coached, both teams have their superstars and both teams are fired up for this game. So, what’re your NFL predictions here? We’ve made our NFL picks for this game so here is where we are at for our NFL best bets for Monday Night Football.

Jets vs. 49ers Best Bet: Monday, September 9th

Given the strengths and some of the weaknesses on both sides, we expect this game to be a close one. The Jets have revamped the offensive line to protect Rodgers, Hall will see a significant workload and we should see a strong overall performance for this offense against a typically strong defensive unit.

On the other side, the Jets defense is one of the best in the league, so with McCaffrey and Aiyuk being so limited in the preseason, it may take some time for them to get going. I’d like the extra half-point, so if you can buy it, I recommend doing so. In the meantime, I’ll still take the Jets with the four points they’re getting.

As a Jets fan, nothing would make me happier than to see some fireworks in this game, but as we all know, all those big, beautiful hotels we see in Las Vegas were built on the public being wrong. So, we won’t bet what we want to see.

We will bet what we will actually see and what we have here are two great defenses and two offenses that, while strong, may have some challenges in the match-up. It should be a great game, but I don’t expect to see a huge track meet here.
