Week 9 is here, and it starts in a spooky and scary way, with the return of bye weeks! There are only two teams on bye, but they have some of the best Fantasy Football Week 9 IDPs in the league, and even leagues with small IDP roster requirements need to pay attention.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers are on bye this week, so get T.J. Watt, Fred Warner, Minkah Fitzpatrick and others out of your starting lineup.

2024 Fantasy Football Week 9 IDP Overview

There will be matches to take advantage of from Thursday to Sunday in IDP leagues. Week 9 of the Fantasy Football season can be difficult in standard leagues, but with IDPs there is almost always a match up to take advantage of.

The Fantasy Football Week 9 IDP risers, waiver wire picks, and favorable matchups will help boost points to your fantasy football team.

Fantasy Football IDP Risers

Arden Key has dual designation as a defensive linemen and linebacker for the Tennessee Titans. He is coming off an impressive week, and has back-to-back weeks with a sack. Sacks are hard to come by when your team is constantly coming from behind, but Key isn’t just reliant on sacks.

He also has 17 tackles, 1 pass defended, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 6 quarterback hits, and 5 tackles for loss. All of that in 6 games started, and the Titans are past their bye week too. With two major bye weeks coming in the next six weeks Key could be a roster plug at two positions. A gem this late in this season and he will likely cost zero FAAB to acquire.

Edgerrin Cooper is a rookie linebacker for the Green Bay Packers and he seems to have gotten over the proverbial rookie hump. He is still used sporadically in the defensive lineup, but he is making the most of his snaps.

Cooper earned 8 tackles, forced and recovered a fumble, and had one sack last week. His big play ability will earn him more snaps against the Detroit Lions for week 9, but the Packers do have a bye week next week.

This is good and bad, as he could be a one-time pick up if you have Fred Warner, Patrick Queen, or other Steeler and 49ers linebackers. Otherwise watch his rise up the board, monitor it next week and possibly get him for little to no FAAB on week 10.

The Packers play the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, and Minnesota Vikings in weeks 15-17. Cooper would be matched up against high volume running backs and tight ends, something helpful for the playoffs.

Josh Jobe was promoted from the Seattle Seahawks practice squad a couple weeks ago and has immediately made a fantasy football impact. He has 17 tackles in two weeks and should continue to see snaps going forward.

Jobe is rising up the board, and could be a sneaky roster addition for the rest of the fantasy football season. If your IDP roster is taking a hard hit from one of San Francisco or Pittsburgh's great defensive backs, perhaps put a small bid on Jobe for a one-week fill. He should earn another 7-10 tackles and could defend a few passes or force a turnover.

Fantasy Football Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Targets

A’Shawn Robinson, Defensive Lineman, Carolina Panthers

A’Shawn Robinson is not rostered in most IDP leagues. He missed week six and fantasy football managers are quick to drop someone they deem useless in a week-by-week league. That is okay, picking up what others have dropped off is part of being a good fantasy football manager.

Robinson earned two sacks against the Broncos last week, despite the Panthers playing from behind most of the game. He has 32 tackles on the season, and the Panthers have the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants for their next two games. Carolina could win the next two games and play with a lead.

There is an opportunity for more sacks, and possible turnovers against bad offensive lines the next two weeks. Put a bid in for Robinson and put a normal amount of FAAB in as well.

Christian Elliss, Linebacker, New England Patriots

Christian Elliss led the Patriots in tackles last week and could be the tackling machine the Patriots need in the absence of Ja’Whaun Bentley. Elliss earned 9 tackles, 2 quarterback hits, 1 sack, and 1 pass defended. He is doing it all for the Patriots and helped them to a victory over the New York Jets.

He is available in several leagues and has a favorable fantasy football schedule going forward. The Patriots offense could struggle which would give Elliss more opportunities.

Eric Murray, Defensive Back, Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have playmakers at all three levels, but very few anticipated Eric Murray being an elite IDP. Yet he has become the Texans starting safety and had a great fantasy output. 7 tackles and the rare 3 passes defended last week, as he was helping in the running game while excelling in pass defense.

Fantasy Football IDP managers should take a look at Murray going forward as he has a favorable schedule for the next five weeks, including this week against Aaron Rodgers who has thrown 7 interceptions this season. He is worth a waiver add and can be claimed with little to no FAAB too. Start your Thursday night with Murray getting you points.

NFL Week 9 IDP Matchups To Capitalize On

Houston Texans vs. New York Jets, Thursday 8:15 PM ET

Danielle Hunter is on a roll lately, and is a must start. Even on the road and on a short week. The Texans travel to New York to take on the Jets and Danielle Hunter runs into a familiar face. Who knows, on a sack he might even tell Aaron Rodgers he misses him… wouldn’t that be nice?

Aaron Rodgers has been sacked 18 times this season, and there is great probability the old, less mobile Rodgers will be sacked again. Hunter and Rodgers were once NFC North foes, but are playing for new teams. Hunter is familiar with Rodgers’ cadence and his movements in the pocket.

The Jets offensive line is subpar at best, and Hunter will have the advantage of playing against a banged-up Rodgers who is currently questionable. Trust Hunter to extend his sack streak and play the veteran Thursday night.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Cincinnati Bengals, Sunday 1 PM ET

Sam Hubbard is not having his best statistical season, but he has had a few pop weeks. Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers and Week 7 at the Cleveland Browns were excellent weeks for the veteran IDP.

He has 33 tackles on the season, 2 sacks and 2 turnovers, not too bad for a defensive lineman. Hubbard has a week 9 home game against the Las Vegas Raiders who have struggled offensively, and one he can take advantage of. The Raiders have a subpar line, and Hubbard will look for a big play in addition to the tackles he will earn.

A two-sack game is possible as the Raiders have allowed 25 sacks this season. If Hubbard is available do not hesitate to pick him up and put him in your lineup.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Atlanta Falcons, Sunday 1 PM ET

A deep dive in the matchups takes place this week with Malik Hooker of the Dallas Cowboys. He has not had a bust-out game this season, but the Cowboys will see several passes from Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons in week 9.

Fantasy football IDP leagues and fantasy football leagues in general always have a player that pops up for a monster game then disappears into obscurity for the rest of the season. Hooker could be the one that has a monster performance, then slips away for the rest of the season.

The Cowboys will have difficulty stopping Cousins, but if Parsons comes back, he could pressure the pocket which could lead to a Hooker interception on a rushed pass. He is available in most leagues and is due for that pop performance. Grab Hooker and put him in your lineups against the Falcons.
