NBA DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups, Injuries & More Today: Wednesday Playbook
Published: Oct 23, 2024
As a Boston Celtics fan, opening night of the NBA season was an absolute movie. The team raised banner 18, gave out their championship rings and then went out and tied an NBA record with 29 three-pointers on their way to a massive blowout win over a New York Knicks team that was supposed to be an Eastern Conference contender.
Jayson Tatum worked on his three-point shooting during the offseason and that was instantly on display as he knocked down eight three-pointers on his way to a game high 37 points.
The night cap saw another NBA first as LeBron James and his son Bronny James took the floor together late in the second quarter of the matchup between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers.
Bronny went 0-1 shooting, so we will still have to wait for him to score his first basketball but he real highlight of that game was the dominant performance from Anthony Davis.
AD went out and put his name in the hat for MVP and DYOP considerations as he scored 36 points with 16 rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocks.
Health, not talent, has always been the issue for Davis but he did play 76 games last year. The biggest thing to watch with AD this season will be his three-point shooting as he attempted three three-pointers last night. New Lakers head coach JJ Reddick wants his team to shoot more threes this season and if Davis starts knocking them down, it only adds an element of scoring that was missing over the last few years.
But what about tonight? We have the first big slates of the NBA DFS season with 10 games on tap. This featured slate includes some fun matchups as the Pacers take on the Pistons in game with a slate high 235.5 game total.
The Grizzlies and Jazz face off in a game with a 228.5 total and just a 2.5-point spread with the Ja Morant led Memphis Grizzlies as road favorites.
The night finishes with two 10pm ET games as the Golden State Warriors face off against the Portland Trail Blazers and the Phoenix Suns face off against the Los Angeles Clippers.
We have plenty of injury news already, so make sure you check out the rest of playbook below, including the NBA DFS Preview show to help you build your winning lineups tonight.

NBA Pre-Lock Update
With the first big slate of the NBA season there is always things we are looking for as we get closer to roster lock from an injury stand-point.
Right now, some of the latest updates include:
- Giannis Antetokounmpo is at shootaround
- Dejounte Murray is at shootaround
- Zion Williamson WAS NOT at shootaround
Zion's status is now the biggest news item as we work towards roster lock. With Trey Murphy already ruled out as well we would likely see a starting unit of Dejounte Murray, CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram, Herb Jones and Daniel Theis for the Pelicans if Zion can't go.

With the NBA season just kicking off we do not have a data yet for teams regarding pace of play and defensive matchups. The spot will typically include a chart and as we get more games under our belt we will really be able to utilize and identify the top matchups.
The Indiana Pacers vs Detroit Pistons matchup will likely have the highest pace of play based off of last year's number where the Pacers were second in pace and the Pistons were seventh. This game also has the highest game total on the slate at 235.5.
