Published: Apr 27, 2025
Welcome to the Fantasy Alarm MLB DFS Playbook for Sunday, April 27th!
We’re diving into the action with a 8-game night slate on DraftKings and FanDuel, kicking off at 1:30 PM ET. With a packed day of baseball ahead, our expert analysis is here to guide you through the top pitchers, value plays, and stackable offenses to target.
Whether you’re hunting for GPP glory or locking in cash game success, we’ve got tailored insights to help you conquer today’s matchups. Let’s dive into the key plays and strategies to dominate the slate!
This season's MLB DFS picks and playbook will consist of a pitcher and hitter core players section with written analysis, player pool grid and core stacks section.
The core player section should be used as a starting point for all lineups, you may not be able to use all players in the same lineup, but those players should be the building blocks for you on a given night.
The player pool grid will feature both players from the core player section along with additional plays to help you build a complete lineup. The grid will be broken into top priced players, mid-priced players and value tier players.
The stacks section will bring you our favorite lineups stacks for the day and which players we would look to include in those stacks based on matchups and pricing.
There will also be a daily MLB DFS Show with a variety of hosts ranging from myself, Jon Impemba, Howard Bender, and James Grande. The MLB DFS Show will give you an initial outlook on the day's MLB DFS slate and should give you a good base for the start of your research each day!
Make sure you subscribe to the Fantasy Alarm YouTube channel so you never miss a show! Also, join the Fantasy Alarm Discord to get your DFS lineup questions answered by our MLB DFS team! Plus, as always, be sure to check in with our MLB DFS Tools, with the Daily MLB Projections, MLB DFS Rostership Projections, and our MLB DFS Lineup Generator when building those lineups today to help you decide which players you should be targeting.
MLB DFS Picks & MLB Playbook
MLB Weather: Sunday, 4/27
Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees
- Strong wind blowing OUT to right field
Cincinnati Reds vs Colorado Rockies
- 70 degrees and wind blowing OUT
Recommended MLB DFS Starting Pitchers
On FanDuel Tarik Skubal is the fourth highest priced pitcher – Don't overthink it, he's your man today.
On DraftKings we could go to a few different spots, especially given Skubal being the top priced pitcher, needing to roster two SPs and looking to spend up for the Yankees will make for some interesting pitching decisions.
Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Tarik Skubal, Detroit Tigers
This one is pretty simple for me.
Here are the stats for the Baltimore Orioles this season against left-handed pitching:
25% KRate - .178 BA/.066 ISO/ .238 wOBA.
Good shot that Skubal has a monster day.
Hunter Brown, Houston Astros
We've detailed the Royals offensive struggles this season, especially against right-handed pitching. Brown is one of the best pitchers in baseball right now and at a great price tag on DraftKings today which will make him a viable SP1 option.
Tylor Megill, New York Mets
Not a ton of value I love today but if you want to go somewhere then Megill against the Nationals should be the spot.
The Mets are road favorites here today and we've seen Megill with some really nice strikeout upside, as he comes off a one-hit, 10-strikeout performances against the Phillies in his last start.
Recommended MLB DFS Hitters
With the weather impact in New York and Colorado we have to be looking at getting some exposure to those games here today.
The Reds are the chalkiest stack on the slate and for good reason given the 11 run game total but also the fact that their lineup is cooking this Rockies pitching staff.
Finding the value plays today to get those top end hitters in your lineup is the big challenge we are looking to solve.
Core MLB DFS Hitters
Cincinnati Reds (FanDuel Only)
Sadly, the Reds are only on FanDuel today but they are still the top stack on the board. The game has a run total of 11 and the likes of Elly De La Cruz, Austin Hays, Noelvi Marte and Gavin Lux are top priorities to build your lineup around.
New York Yankees
Yes, I know Kevin Gausman is having a nice bounce back season but the winds in New York are blowing out right the short right field in Yankee Stadium at 20-25 MPH today.
Lock in not just Aaron Judge but Ben Rice, Paul Goldschmidt and Austin Wells today as a nice stack.
Detroit Tigers
Yes, another team stack call out. Dean Kremer has been horrible this season and the Tigers offense is in a great spot to do some damage with some really fairly priced options.
Spencer Torkleson, Gleyeber Torres, Jace Jung, Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene and Zach McKinstry are great lineup options.
Romy Gonzalez/Reb Refsnyder, Boston Red Sox
If you need some value today look to the Boston lefty lineup specialists. When facing a southpaw the Red Sox deploy Romy Gonzalez and Rob Refsnyder in the middle of their lineup. Both have really good numbers against left-handed pitching and hit in a great spot to produce runs for the Red Sox offense.
Player Pool
Player News
Daulton Varsho picked up three hits, three RBI and a homer in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
Varsho has only played in seven games this year, but they’ve been seven good ones. He’s homered three times already, and his slugging percentage is a remarkable — and entirely unsustainable — .727 over 22 at-bats. Varsho has been a mediocre offensive player in his two seasons with the Blue Jays, but it’s possible at the age of 28 he’s having a breakout campaign. Far from a guarantee, but possible.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Ward, 31, gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the first inning. He’s now gone deep in two of his last three games, and it ‘improves’ his slash to .181/.224/.391. Ward has been one of the most hot/cold players players in the sport over the last few years, so fantasy managers who can afford to make some roster moves may want to look at Ward while the going is good.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Chad Green picked up his first save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Green got the save after Jeff Hoffman worked in back-to-back games — and struggled — in the first two contests against the Angels. He struck out two and looked the part while needing just nine pitches to get through the inning. Hoffman should remain the closer, but Green is on his tail if the struggles were to continue.
Chris Bassitt allowed five runs — four earned — while working six-plus innings against the Angels on Thursday while picking up a win.
Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.
José Soriano allowed three runs over five innings while not factoring in the decision Thursday against the Blue Jays.
Soriano left with a 4-3 lead, but it was erased quickly after his departure. The 26-year-old was not exactly dominant in his outing with eight hits allowed and four free passes, but he did strike out six to help balance things out a smidgen. Soriano takes an even ERA of 4.00 into a scheduled start against the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday. There should be better options for that one.
