2025 Player Outlook
Jung logged 94 plate appearances at the MLB level last season, and while his 16 percent walk rate was very impressive, his 30.9 percent strikeout rate was a bit concerning. His overall quality of contact metrics were underwhelming, and he hit a ground ball half of the time, but we can't write him off because of an underwhelming first 30 games at the game's highest levels. He's displayed solid pop during his time in the minors, and a strong walk rate has followed at every level. Detroit may try to protect him a bit against left-handed pitching, but Jung is a great target in the later rounds of AL-only drafts where OBP is a scored category. A .345+ OBP and 12-16 home runs is very much in play for Jung in 2025.
Player News
Tigers 3B prospect Jace Jung went 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple for Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
Jung’s triple hit the top of the wall at 374 feet before he later crushed a 415-foot no-doubter. Jung was not able to win the 3B spot out of spring training, but he has a 1.478 OPS through 15 Triple-A at-bats and could push for another shot with the Tigers if he keeps swinging the bat well over the next couple of weeks.
Tigers optioned INF Jace Jung and RHP Sean Guenther to Triple-A Toledo.
Jung will begin the 2025 season in Toledo, but he’s one of the top hitting prospects in the Detroit system, so there’s a great chance he finishes the campaign in the majors. That being said, fantasy managers can wait for Jung to get that promotion rather than stashing him on the bench to begin the year.
Jace Jung connected on his first homer of the spring Tuesday off the Braves’ Dylan Covey.
Jung doubled twice on Feb. 23, but he had since been in a 1-for-20 slump. Although the Tigers made a big run at Alex Bregman, they haven’t looked anywhere else in an attempt to upgrade at third base. Jung will be the starter against right-handers and should offer some AL-only value.
Jace Jung went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run scored against the Yankees on Sunday.
While Hao-Yu Lee has been the talk of Tigers camp so far and Matt Vierling played 51 games at third base last year, Jung could still win the everyday third base job with a good showing this spring. The 24-year-old sweet-swinging lefty had two hustle doubles against the Yankees Sunday. Jung had a .257/.377/.454 with Triple-A before he was called up for his MLB debut last year. With Lee yet to play in Triple-A and Vierling primarily an outfielder, it makes a lot of sense for the Tigers to give Jung a look a third base this year.
