MLB DFS Picks & Playbook For Today’s Games: Saturday, August 10

Published: Aug 10, 2024
Welcome to another day of MLB DFS here at Fantasy Alarm. We get a great 9-game main slate on DraftKings kicking off at 7:10 PM EST.
We have another great day of baseball with elite pitchers up and down the slate. Paul Skenes is the most expensive pitcher of the day and has the tall task of heading into Los Angeles to deal with the most expensive hitter, Shohei Ohtani.
Make sure you subscribe to the Fantasy Alarm YouTube channel so you never miss a show! Also, join the Fantasy Alarm Discord to get your DFS lineup questions answered by our MLB DFS team! MLB Weather: Today, 8/10
Atlanta Braves vs Colorado Rockies
A rain delay is possible in this game while scattered showers are in the area.
MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
With plenty of options at pitcher up and down this slate, I find myself gravitating toward Corbin Burnes and Sean Manaea. Justin Steele is essentially the ‘free square’ as he takes on the abysmal White Sox.
Offensively, the Braves are in Coors which makes them the most obvious stack on the board. The Cubs are another favorite stack as they take on Chris Flexen and the White Sox.
Recommended MLB DFS Starting Pitchers
Top Options for Strikeouts
- Paul Skenes (6.5 Ks -150) vs Los Angeles Dodgers
- Corbin Burnes (6.5 Ks -135) vs Tampa Bay Rays
- Logan Gilbert (6.5 Ks -110) vs New York Mets
- Sean Manaea (6.5 Ks +110) vs Seattle Mariners
Best Odds for a Win
Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Logan Gilbert, Seattle Mariners
Logan Gilbert gets the start at home, where Seattle’s pitchers have been dominant all season. He holds a 2.78 ERA with 76 Ks across 71.1 innings at home, but only a 2-5 record as the offense has not helped him much. The Mets have a good offense, sitting with the 11th-ranked .332 wOBA, but it comes with a 24.7% strikeout rate. Outside of his blowup start against the Red Sox, he’s had at least 23 dk points in four of his last five starts.
Corbin Burnes, Baltimore Orioles
Corbin Burnes is in an interesting spot on the road against the Rays. Over the last 30 days, Tampa ranks in the bottom half in most offensive categories against righties, while holding a 26% strikeout rate. Burnes has a 2.69 ERA and continues to be a dominant pitcher, with his only real issue coming in the form of home runs. He’s given up nine home runs over his last 10 games but he comes with a great floor and win equity.
Sean Manaea, New York Mets
Sean Manaea is coming off two straight dominant outings and if you played him on either slate, there is a good chance you cashed. He pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball in both games while tallying 10 and 11 strikeouts respectively. The Mariners rank in the bottom five of most offensive categories against lefties over the last 30 days, while holding a 30.8% strikeout rate at home. Manaea is striking out 24.5% of batters and is lining up for another great performance.
Max Fried, Atlanta Braves
Max Fried has been beaten up in a few recent outings but is an interesting play in Coors. He gets a massive salary discount and can help fit in more expensive bats. His 59% groundball rate is as elite as it gets and keeping the ball on the ground can neutralize the disadvantage of pitching in Coors. He’s one of the biggest favorites on the board to record a win and should be a solid SP2 given his price tag.
Recommended MLB DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
- Atlanta Braves (6.3)
- Chicago Cubs (5.7)
- Kansas City Royals (4.9)
- Minnesota Twins (4.5)

Note: Will Be Updated as Official Starting Lineups Are Released
Cody Bellinger, OF, Chicago Cubs
Cody Bellinger has looked great since returning from injury. Over his last 10 games, he has a .385 BA, 1.046 OPS, and has recorded three home runs and a steal. His .163 ISO against righties is not the most impressive number, but Chris Flexen is on the mound and struggles against lefties. He has given up a .377 wOBA, .556 SLG, and 12 home runs to lefties on the season. The game isn’t being played in Wrigley, but there is wind blowing out in Chicago.
Willy Adames, SS, Milwaukee Brewers
Willy Adames is on a tear right now, with five home runs and 11 RBI over his last 10 games. He’s hit a home run in two straight games and once again is at home against his righty, his best split. He holds a monster .312 ISO and .983 OPS at home against righties, which continues to be one of our favorite plays. Nick Martinez has not given up a ton of power to righties but Willy has been too good.
Atlanta Braves
Rather than list off every name, I’m just going to say you can play anyone on the Braves. They are once again in Coors and with Dakota Hudson on the mound, you can stack them in any configuration that works. Hudson is primarily a groundball pitcher but he’s allowing 4.80 BB/9 and 1.04 HR/9 so things may get out of hand for him.
Michael Massey, 2B, Kansas City Royals
Michael Massey is in the middle of a hot streak, with a .294 BA, .947 OPS, and two home runs over his last 10 games. He has hits in seven of his last eight games and has steadily been producing in RBI and runs scored. Kansas City has been batting him in the leadoff spot which greatly increases his upside with Bobby Witt and Salvador Perez hitting behind him.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
Endy Rodriguez (finger) had his splint removed this week.
Rodriguez suffered a lacerated right index finger on April 14th. Now that he is out of his splint, he “is playing catch and doing a slightly modified swing.” Once he can progress to taking full swings, we’ll have a better sense of the timeline for his return.
