2025 Player Outlook
Massey slashed .259/.294/.449 with 14 home runs and 45 RBI across 100 games for the Royals last year, and despite not being terrible against LHP last season, Kansas City protected him a bit against southpaws last season. I envision that to be the story again in 2025, with him playing on the large side of a platoon. His value takes a little bit of a hit in leagues where OBP is scored, as he's posted a career 4.7 percent walk rate through his first three big league seasons. He's a fine target in the later rounds of drafts, as he can hit for a little of pop.
Player News
Michael Massey went 0-for-2 with a sac bunt against the Astros on Friday.
Massey had a 366-foot fly to right that would have been a homer in 23 ballparks, but it was an out in Kauffman. There have been no homers or steals this year for Massey, who is batting .191/.211/.225 through 96 plate appearances. The Royals have an alternative in Triple-A in Nick Loftin if they’d like to go in a different direction. Loftin is mostly playing third this year, but the Royals would still have Maikel Garcia and Jonathan India as options at second.
Michael Massey went 3-for-4 as the Royals fell to the Tigers on Thursday evening in Motown.
Massey singled in the fourth inning and got to third base with only one out, but the Royals were unable to cash him in. He then bunted his way on to start the sixth inning and wound up stranded at second. Massey also singled in the ninth inning before getting stranded yet again. With his three-hit evening, the 27-year-old infielder is now slashing .206/.225/.250 on the season with zero homers, five RBI and no stolen bases.
Michael Massey went 0-for-4 as the Royals’ No. 5 hitter against the Yankees on Monday.
Massey is swinging at everything right now, and it’s mostly just resulting in weak contact in the air. That was the case in the ninth inning as the tying run against Devin Williams tonight. He actually took the first pitch after Salvador Perez walked and was rewarded with a ball on an offering that appeared to be a strike. He then fouled off the next pitch and popped up the third. The Royals might need to sit Massey down for a couple of days or maybe even call up Nick Loftin (releasing Cavan Biggio in the process) to give him a look at second base.
Michael Massey is not in the lineup for the Royals on Thursday against the Twins.
Massey has started every game for the Royals this season and all but one of them at second base. He’s hitting .233/.261/.302 with six strikeouts and one walk in 43 at-bats. The Royals will turn to Maikel Garcia at second base on Thursday with Jonathan India at third base and Salvador Perez at DH. There is enough competition for at-bats in Kansas City this year that Massey will need to start hitting to remain an everyday player.
