Nationals vs. Marlins Predictions: Friday, April 11th
On the surface, a game featuring the Miami Marlins and Washington Nationals doesn’t exactly scream “high scoring.” However, when making MLB best bets today, a decent number of runs could be scored in South Beach tonight based on the starting pitchers and sneaky offenses.
Nationals starter Mitchell Parker has impressed early on, allowing only one run over 12.1 innings in his first two starts. Yet, Parker is bound to regress to the pitcher who posted a 4.29 ERA last year. It’s a small sample size, but the left-hander’s low .243 BABIP and high 93.3% left-on-base rate result in a 4.28 xERA thus far.
Last time out, Parker threw six solid innings of one-run ball. However, he walked four hitters compared to just two strikeouts and easily could’ve allowed more than two hits. That was the case in his season debut, when Parker allowed seven hits to the Phillies but got by unscathed.
Allowing that many baserunners is a tad worrisome, especially for a guy who was shaky last year. The Marlins are an above-average offense against left-handed pitching this season, batting .260 (eighth in MLB) with a .318 wOBA (11th) and 20.6% K rate (sixth) in the split so far. Plus, the Washington bullpen has struggled to a 5.91 ERA this year (28th).
On the other side, the Nats can plate some runs of their own against Marlins starter Edward Cabrera. The right-hander will make his season debut tonight after recovering from a blister on his throwing hand. Cabrera had a 4.95 ERA and 4.68 FIP last year across 20 starts. He was excellent three seasons ago but has been replacement-level in the past two years.
Washington is an above-average offense against right-handed pitchers thus far with a .329 wOBA (11th) and .188 ISO (7th). The Nats are also averaging 5.3 runs over their last six games with the lineup waking up lately. It’s a sneaky tough spot for Cabrera, who has a career 4.02 ERA in six starts against these division foes.

Braves vs. Rays Predictions: Friday, April 11th
With the Tampa Bay Rays playing their home games at Steinbrenner Field, the weather becomes a much more significant factor (obviously) than when they were in a dome. The field is already a hitter-friendly park as the outfield dimensions mirror Yankee Stadium. Favorable wind conditions and a warm Florida day help out hitters even more.
Friday’s game between the Rays and Atlanta Braves could see a ton of runs based on all of the above. The weather forecast calls for 10 mph winds blowing out to center with the temperature at 75 degrees at first pitch. It immediately favors offense, no matter the teams involved.
Neither of the starting pitchers on Friday offers much confidence either. Braves starter Bryce Elder was horrendous last year with a 6.52 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over 10 starts. In his first start of this season, he wasn’t any better with three runs allowed over just four innings. Elder coughed up two homers in the outing and walked two as well.
Elder will have his hands full with a Rays offense that’s hitting right-handed pitching well. Tampa has a .336 wOBA (9th in MLB), .284 batting average (4th), and 18.5% K rate (5th) against righties so far. Plus, the Braves just used up a ton of relievers in their past series with Philadelphia, including in last night’s extra-innings game that ended late.
Meanwhile, Rays starter Taj Bradley was shaky last time out. He gave up four runs in five innings with four walks and two homers allowed. Bradley had a 4.11 ERA last year and a 5.59 ERA the season prior. Home runs and walks have been issues for the righty before and it doesn’t look like he’s righted the ship yet.
Atlanta’s offense has mostly underwhelmed this season, but it can get to Bradley enough here to cash this portion of our MLB best bets today. The favorable hitting conditions sure help out.
- Expert Braves vs. Rays Picks:
- Over 9 Total Runs (-115 on FanDuel)
- 1st Innings Over 4.5 Runs (-140 on FanDuel)
