2024 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: Elder’s first full season in the majors saw him on the bump for 31 starts and 174.2 IP while posting a 3.81 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. The metrics outside of that though, suggest it wasn’t as good of a season as those sound. He posted less than 7.0 K/9 and sub-18-percent K-rate. His walk rate of 8.6-percent led to a 3.25 BB/9. The FIP, xFIP, and SIERA were all 4.42-4.81 which again, aren’t great.
2024 Outlook: Elder has proven he can eat innings averaging 5.2 innings a start last year. That’s perfectly serviceable as a backend starter in MLB. However, the ratios and lack of strikeout totals that come with it aren’t great for fantasy baseball in really any sense.
