Phillies vs. Mariners Prediction: Friday, August 2nd
Big time matchup today as two playoff teams square off tonight on the west coast between the Phillies and Mariners. It’s a good pitching matchup as well between Tyler Phillips and Bryan Woo which should carry this game through the early portion, and that gives way to the first wager of the matchup.
Phillips has only made 4 starts for the Phillies this season but 3 of them have been excellent and, with an ERA of 1.8 and 0.76 WHIP on the season, he should continue this dominance against a Mariners team that averages just 3.39 runs per game at home. Woo, on the other end of the bump, has the more difficult task with this Philly lineup, but he should be up to the challenge holding down a 2.35 ERA on the season.
Due to these hurlers, I will be taking the under on 2.5 runs for the 1st 3 Innings to start my MLB best bets today. The next wager is backing Phillips as he is facing a Seattle lineup that strikes out more than any other team in baseball. In fact, their home K rate is up to 29.1% which is 4 points higher than the next team. He has gone over 4.5 Ks in 2 of his starts coming into tonight; I would wager he does it again.
- Expert Phillies vs. Mariners Picks:
- Philadelphia vs. Seattle Total Runs 1st 3 Innings Under 2.5 (-105 on DraftKings)
- Tyler Phillips (PHI) Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-150 on DraftKings)
Blue Jays vs. Yankees Prediction: Friday, August 2nd
The trade deadline is often a defining moment for MLB teams whether they be buyers or sellers, and it appears it has affected the Blue Jays and Yankees as they prepare for their weekend series. On one side, the Yankees have now won 5 straight games while scoring 46 runs during that span – insane numbers! The,n there’s the Blue Jays who just finished a 4-game spanking of a series against Baltimore and sold some important pieces.
I really like some Yankees to add to our MLB predictions today, so let’s get into it. Off the top, it’s the Yankees money line at home. I will eat that chalk for a team that is streaking and hitting so well. Then there’s the myriad of options for a player prop, so why choose just one? Let’s grab a pair of them!
First up, let’s grab some Aaron Judge who is hitting .325 against righties with a 1.127 OPS on the season to go over 1.5 hits/runs/RBIs as he has done in 5 of the last 6 games. He’s also 11-37 against Kevin Gausman all time. Let’s then add Jazz Chisholm to the fold who is hitting .385 against righties since becoming a Yankee.
His prop is just 0.5 for hits/runs/RBIs! It is -180, so I will be paring that with the New York money line, but still, a great bet is a great bet. Load up them Yankees, boys and girls! It’s going to be a smash spot.
- Expert Blue Jays vs. Yankees Picks:
- New York Money Line (-160 on DraftKings)
- Aaron Judge (NYY) Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBIs (-150 on DraftKings)
- Jazz Chisholm (NYY) Over 0.5 Hits+Runs+RBIs (-180 on DraftKings)
Best MLB Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 8/2
- Pittsburgh Pirates Money Line (+115 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Minnesota Twins Run Line -1.5 (-140 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Jurickson Profar (SD) Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBIs (-135 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Dean Kremer (BAL) Under 3.5 Strikeouts (+125 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Baltimore Orioles Team Total Over 4.5 Runs (-110 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Player News
Eddie Rosario has elected free agency.
Rosario refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett over the weekend and will head to free agency instead. There’s a decent chance he winds up back with Atlanta on a brand-new minor league deal. The 33-year-old journeyman outfielder has gotten into five games this season between Los Angeles and Atlanta.
Mike Trout (knee) is scheduled to run on an Alter G (zero gravity) treadmill on Monday.
Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters they’ll see how Trout fares before making a decision on his next steps. The 33-year-old generation superstar remains without a definitive return timetable after hitting the injured list back on May 2 with a bone bruise in his left knee.
Rangers promoted OF prospect Alejandro Osuna to Triple-A.
Osuna checked in at 499th overall in Rotoworld’s dynasty rankings back on Opening Day after an impressive showing in spring training. The 22-year-old earns a promotion to the doorstep of the majors hitting .284/.363/.409 with 10 extra-base hits and seven steals in 31 games this season for Double-A Frisco. He doesn’t project as a high-upside fantasy contributor, but he does a little bit of everything well and should be able to carve out a role at the highest level someday.
Justin Martinez (shoulder) will face hitters on Wednesday in a live batting practice session.
There’s an outside chance Martinez is ready to return from the injured list later this week when first eligible, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. The hard-throwing 23-year-old reliever is making steady progress and should be ready to rejoin Arizona’s high leverage mix at some point in the coming days.
Logan Gilbert (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
It’ll be Gilbert’s first bullpen session since landing on the injured list back on April 26 with a flexor strain in his right elbow. The 28-year-old fantasy ace will likely require a couple minor league rehab outings to get back up to speed, but it looks like there’s a decent chance he’s back in Seattle’s rotation at some point in June.
DJ LeMahieu (calf) was not activated prior to Monday’s game against the Mariners.
LeMahieu joined the Yankees in Seattle as they continue their West Coast trip, but he hasn’t been officially activated yet. That figures to happen prior to Tuesday’s contest. The 36-year-old will make his season debut this week after missing the first six-plus weeks of the year recovering from a calf injury.
