Royals vs. Tigers Prediction: Thursday, August 1st

It’s a matchup tonight between a buyer and a seller at this year’s trade deadline as the Royals travel north to take on the Tigers. Detroit did keep the core together but in parts is waiving the white flag on the season, and I intend to attack that! There’s a big time mismatch on the mound as well with Seth Lugo going against Keider Montero, so let’s dig into this one and grab some winners.

The start of Keider Montero opens up a bevy of options for us to wager on as he has an ERA of 6.38 on this season and has allowed 5 or more earned runs in his last 3 starts. This means that runs should flow for the Royals offense and, while their team total for the whole game is a good bet, I would rather take the 1st 5 innings total of 2.5 runs at plus money to begin my MLB preidctions today.

The Royals bats should make quick work of Montero, and for that reason, I will also take the under on his outs recorded at 15.5 as he has failed to do this in 2 of the last 3 starts. Now that we have our base, let’s also take the Royals to win the game on the money line as there is value given the matchup and projection that this game should be handicapped closer to -200 in the models.

The Royals are winners of 8 in the last 13 games and shouldn’t get bogged down by this Tigers team that has lost 7 of the last 10 and holds a negative run differential on the season.
