What a day for the 2023 MLB season and what a night for the MLB Best Bets and Betting Picks! Watching Domingo German throw just the 24th perfect game in MLB history and the fourth in New York Yankees history was absolutely phenomenal. Some people want to diminish its value because the Oakland Athletics are an atrocious team, but a major league team is a major league team. It is one of the most difficult things to achieve in sports and deserves as many accolades as any other perfect game thrown. Of course, we didn’t have any action on the Yankees last night, so we will simply appreciate it from a fandom standpoint. As for betting, it was also a strong night here as all three of our game bets hit and we hit one of our three player props to turn a profit. Let’s keep that momentum rolling on today’s MLB action.

MLB Best Bets for June 29

San Diego Padres at Pittsburgh Pirates

Sorry, but the Padres are not going to get swept in Pittsburgh today. No way. I get that San Diego’s lineup has been struggling and they’ve now lost four in a row and seven of their last nine, but the bleeding stops here. Pirates starter Luis Ortiz has been rock-solid this season, posting a 3.74 ERA and he hasn’t allowed more than four runs in any start, but save for one appearance against the Texas Rangers back on May 22, he’s faced a lot of bottom-feeding offenses. San Diego needs to snap out of it and Joe Musgrove will do his part to keep the Pirates bats in check, so look for the offense to follow suit. There’s no value on the money line bet but we like backing road teams on the run line and will do so here.

Pick: San Diego Padres -1.5 run line (-115 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Pick: Juan Soto over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI (-160 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Miami Marlins at Boston Red Sox

We’ve got a real nice pitching match-up in this one as Brayan Bello and his new cutter take the mound for Boston to face lefty Jesus Luzardo and the Marlins. Bello has thrown four-straight quality starts and hasn’t allowed more than three runs in 11 of his 12 starts this season. The Fish have done well for themselves offensively in recent games and have won four-straight games, but they still have just a .307 wOBA against righties this season and have averaged fewer than four runs per game over their last eight. Meanwhile, the Red Sox own a .337 wOBA against southpaws this season and continue to be one of the most dominant offenses at home.  I don’t trust the Boston bullpen, so we’ll just side with Boston for the first five innings today.

Pick: Boston Red Sox 1st 5 Innings Money Line (-110 on BetMGM)

Pick: Brayan Bello over 4.5 strikeouts (-135 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Houston Astros at St. Louis Cardinals

The focus here is going to be on the surging Houston bats -- .339 wOBA with a .203 ISO over the last seven days – and the struggles of Adam Wainwright – 6.56 ERA with a 1.82 WHIP and 13 earned runs (five home runs) over his last 15 innings. The Astros are looking to catch the Texas Rangers while also staving off the Los Angeles Angels, so a win is imperative. They’ve averaged just over six runs per game over their last four and that should continue against Wainwright for however long he lasts in this one. The Houston lineup is too good to keep at bay, so I expect them to jump all over Waino early. The problem is I don’t trust their bullpen, so we’ll stay focused on the first five innings.

Pick: Houston Astros 1st 5 Innings Money Line (-125 on BetMGM)

Pick: Jose Altuve over 0.5 runs scored (-140 on BetMGM)
