Yankees vs. Nationals Prediction: Tuesday, August 27th

Kicking things off for my MLB best bets today will be a matchup between two teams heading in different directions as we move closer to the start of September. The Yankees are a powerhouse right now with a lineup that could chase any pitcher in MLB, but tonight, this matchup gives the Yankees a gas can in Patrick Corbin, and it's likely going to be ugly. 

Corbin has an ERA of 5.73 on the season and has been consistently ranked as one of the worst pitchers in the game by advanced metrics. His splits against right-handed batters is also troubling as he’s allowing an average of .322 and an OPS of nearly .900. I know what you’re probably thinking now, and it's that Aaron Judge is a righty bat, and that, my friends, is where we begin our wagering. 

Aaron Judge is a monster and the most impressive player in baseball next to Bobby Witt and Shohei Ohtani. He is hitting lefties this season on an average of .312 with an OPS of 1.283 – the man is not a human being. In the month of August overall, he is hitting .425 with 12 home runs as well. The best MLB pick is the total base prop for sure, but also a sprinkle on the home run as well; give me the over on both! 

After Judge, the lineup for New York is special as well so I haven’t forgotten a team wager for the Yankees against Corbin who has allowed 32 earned runs over his last 46 innings pitched. I’m going with the Yanks to score over 5.5 runs tonight as a team, something they have done in 4 of the last 6 games heading into tonight.

 

 

 

Padres vs. Cardinals Prediction: Tuesday, August 27th

The next chunk of game wagers for MLB best bets today will come on MLB picks in the game between the Padres and the Cardinals as they hit game 2 of their series. I know, it's back to well here, same as last night, but the St. Louis pitching is just too soft to not attack, especially Miles Mikolas! 

Mikolas has an ERA of 6.41 in the month of August thus far and in a matchup against an offense in the Padres that is averaging 5.03 runs per game on the road. Last night I took the Padres money line but tonight I will be going team total runs over 4.5 runs to fully fade Mikolas and the Cardinals pitching staff. 

Doubling down now on the fade of St. Louis and diving into a Padre batting prop and it's looking like I need some Jackson Merrill on the card today. He is hitting .318 against right-handed pitching this season with an OPS of .889 in total. Seeing as Mikolas is also weaker against lefties, as Merrill is, of course, I like the hits+runs+RBIs as he should have many chances at the plate with RISP. Give me the over 2.5 on that prop tonight! 

Then let’s end this betting group of picks with Mikolas himself who has just been awful and should have a short outing. His outs recorded prop stands at 17.5 and I just don’t see him getting to 6 innings today against this Padres team. He has also failed to go over this number in 3 of the last 4 starts, so the trends are with us. Let’s ride.
