NHL DFS Playbook November 14: Top DraftKings and FanDuel Picks

Published: Nov 14, 2023
Welcome to Tuesday’s nine-game NHL Slate. There are some elite options to choose from, like David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins and Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, but we still need to find value elsewhere. You can build daily fantasy hockey lineups on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo Fantasy for Sunday, November 14th, but before you build those NHL daily fantasy lineups, don’t forget to check out our NHL DFS projections, the NHL Value Finder, and the NHL DFS lineup generator. Let's look closer at the daily fantasy hockey top plays for tonight's NHL DFS Showdown slate.
NHL DFS Playbook November 14th
DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
We have a massive nine-game NHL slate with a ton of great superstars to choose from. Two teams have team totals over four and every game has a total of at least six. There are also a healthy amount of value plays, but we need to make sure we are picking the right players. We also need to make sure that we select the correct goalie. Wins are important, but it’s all about value.
Recommended DFS Starting Goalies
Top Options for Saves
Sam Montembeault Vs. Calgary Flames
John Gibson Vs. Nashville Predators
MacKenzie Blackwood Vs. Florida Panthers
Best Odds for a Win
Anthony Stolarz Vs. San Jose Sharks
Jake Oettinger Vs. Arizona Coyotes
Tristan Jarry Vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Favorite Goalies to Use for DFS Lineups
Anthony Stolarz, G, Florida Panthers
Another slate with the San Jose Sharks in action. Anthony Stolarz is confirmed to get the start for Florida and he has an excellent chance of picking up the win. He’s expensive, but worth every dollar if you’re chasing the win.
John Gibson, G, Anaheim Ducks
John Gibson is 3-4-0 on the season but has a 2.21 GAA and a .926 SV%. The veteran netminder isn’t getting enough goal support, but Anaheim has a date with Nashville and the Predators are giving up a ton of goals. Gibson is $7200 on DraftKings and provides us with a ton of value.
Logan Thompson, G, Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas is such a dominant team that I don’t see the Capitals being able to generate much offence. Logan Thompson is an elite option on this slate and I like his chances of securing the win tonight.
Tristan Jarry, G, Pittsburgh Penguins
Tristan Jarry is 5-5-0 on the season, but he has a 2.23 GAA and a .920 SV%. He’s posted back-to-back shutouts and has an easy matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets. We know that Jarry can me a mystery box and lay a stinker, but I do think we see the elite version of him tonight.
Recommended DFS Skaters
Highest Expected Goal Totals
Florida Panthers Vs MacKenzie Blackwood (4.1)
Dallas Stars Vs. Karel Vejmelka (4.0)
Pittsburgh Penguins Vs. Elvis MErzlikins (3.7)
Favorite Skaters to Use for DFS Lineups
Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh Penguins
Sidney Crosby is off to another fantastic start to the season--posting 15 points in 13 games-- and he’s shooting the puck a healthy amount. His price tag is also very reasonable considering how bad Columbus can be.
Mason McTavish, C, Anaheim Ducks
We may be witnessing Mason McTavish’s breakout season. The kid has 15 points on the year and has points in four of the last five games. Juuse Saros and the Predators have been a mess this season so I expect McTavish to see more than enough chances and do enough to hit value.
David Pastrnak, W, Boston Bruins
David Pastrnak is an elite shooter who gets a great matchup against a mediocre Buffalo team. He’s a threat to finish with five or more shots on goal and can maybe score more than just a single goal. He’s expensive, but you know his floor is super high.
Jason Robertson, W, Dallas Stars
Jason Robertson is slowly starting to find his game. He was off to a slow start but now has three goals in the last three games. His shot volume is still not where it needs to be, but he’s elite and shouldn’t be this cheap on DK.
Alex Pietrangelo, D, Vegas Golden Knights
I’m not a fan of playing up for defenceman, but Alex Pietrangelo is the exception to the rule. He’s racking up points, shooting the puck a ton and blocking a healthy amount of shots. He’s a cheaper version of Roman Josi. The Capitals are a very good team so Pietrangelo could be in for a big night. He could hit value without having to register a point.
Rasmus Sandin, D, Washington Capitals
The points this season haven’t been there for Rasmus Sandin but he’s still finding a way to be productive. He has 14 blocked shots in the last three games and is playing close to 25 minutes a night. His volume is up there which is leading to excellent results. He’s going to be asked to do just as much tonight against a good Vegas team so he’s another candidate to hit value without having to register a point of break the bank.

Player News
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels
It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.
Riley Greene is not in the lineup for the first game of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Thursday.
Greene will get a break and likely return to the lineup for the second game of the twin-billing. Zach McKinstry will get the start in left field while Greene rests.
Panthers released TE Jordan Matthews.
Matthews converted to tight end a few years ago and hasn’t made much noise at the position. The change has, however, likely kept him in the league for a few more seasons. He appeared in four games with the Panthers last year but didn’t record any stats on offense. The Panthers also released or waived WR Dax Milne, C Andrew Raym, and TE Colin Granger.
Yu Darvish (elbow) is facing live hitters on Thursday.
Darvish has been throwing bullpen sessions and traveled to the team’s complex in Arizona to face live hitters on Thursday. It will be his first time facing live batters since a spring training appearance on March 13th. He will likely need a few sessions like this before the Padres can map out a rehab appearance timeline for him.
Adael Amador is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Rockies on Thursday.
Amador has now started three of the last four games at second base for the Rockies. He’s gone just 7-for-43 this season with 15 strikeouts in 16 games. He’s just 22 years old, so there is plenty of time for him to adjust to the MLB level, but he doesn’t need to be on redraft radars right now.
Jackson Holliday is playing second base and batting second for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
With Cedric Mullins sitting out on Thursday, Gunnar Henderson will bat lead off, and Holliday will jump up from sixth in the order to second. Holliday is riding a hot streak right now, and the Orioles are taking advantage. This is likely just a one-game sample with no Mullins or Adley Rutschman in the lineup, but Rutschman has been struggling, so perhaps it could become a more permanent spot in the lineup for Holliday moving forward.
