NHL DFS Picks, Projections, Lineups & Stacks Today: Thursday Playbook

Published: Mar 06, 2025
Welcome to another playbook and batch of NHL DFS picks! We have a fantastic nine-game slate with no shortage of great NHL DFS projections to choose from.
We can’t pick every elite player on the slate, so choices will need to be made, and value must be found. Let’s dive right into the NHL DFS picks action and see which players we need to target.
NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, March 6th
Before we get into NHL DFS picks, let’s make some pick’em picks for the night over on Sleeper.
There are lots of ways we try to fill your wallet over here at Fantasy Alarm and this is just another option.
NHL Pick 'Em Picks On Sleeper Fantasy Today
- Sam Reinhart O/2.5 SOG
- Valeri Nichushkin O/2.5 SOG
- Sergei Bobrovsky O/22.5 SV
I have no idea why Sam Reinhart’s shot total is so low, but we’ll take it. He has gone over this mark in his last four games and should see more than enough chances against Columbus, who surrender a ton of shot chances. This is an easy over in my books.
Valeri Nichushkin should have gone over his shot total last game against Pittsburgh, but it just wasn’t meant to be. He gets another chance tonight at home against San Jose. The Sharks are horrendous defensively and they’ll likely be sitting out some players due to the Trade Deadline. Martin Necas is sick and his status for tonight is questionable, but even if he does play, this is still a fantastic spot for Nichushkin.
Stick with the Panthers, Sergei Bobrovsky has a very low shot total to clear and it has me scratching my head. The Blue Jackets aren’t as good on the road as they are at home, but they are still middle-of-the-pack when it comes to generating shots. Bob is going to be busy tonight as the Blue Jackets try to keep their playoff hopes alive. I like his chances of going over.
Thursday Salary Cap DFS Picks
Goalie Of The Day: MacKenzie Blackwood - COL
MacKenzie Blackwood revenge game? Yes please! The former Shark is going to get another crack against his former team, and I don’t expect him to lose.
It may be a challenge for him to hit value, so he’s mostly a cash-game option.
Honorable Mention: Joey Daccord - SEA
The Seattle Kraken are already selling parts of their team, and more players are going to sit, but that doesn’t mean they can’t beat Nashville.
Joey Daccord has struggled in his last few starts, but the Predators are LAST in goals per game, and they aren’t getting any better. Daccord has a decent matchup on paper, and we can get him at low ownership
Player Of The Day: Nathan MacKinnon - COL
Nathan MacKinnon has 52 points in 31 home games and has a matchup against Alexandar Georgiev and the Sharks. Do you need me to spell it out for you? I’d love to fade him tonight, but Nate Dog may break the slate.
The sky's the limit for him. He has four assists and six shots on goal in their two meetings so far this season, which isn’t elite, but still very good.
Honorable Mention: Nikita Kucherov - TBL
There’s no nice way of saying this: the Buffalo Sabres are horrible. This team makes my eyes hurt. They look lifeless most nights and now they have a date with the Lightning in Tampa Bay against Nikita Kucherov. If you aren’t going with MacKinnon, Kucherov is your next-best option.
Value Play Of The Day: Kaapo Kakko - SEA
I know Seattle isn’t a dangerous, offensive team, but they do play the Nashville Predators. This is likely a low-scoring affair, but Kaapo Kakko has a very reasonable price tag on DraftKings and is seeing time on the top line and top power play unit. An assist and a couple of shots on goal is all he needs to hit value.
Honorable Mention: Sam Montembeault - MTL
I know we don’t usually think of goalies as a “value play” but that might need to change. It’s never a wise idea to play a goalie against Connor McDavid and the Oilers, but Montreal has been playing very well of late, and the Oilers are a mess.
Stuart Skinner can’t stop the puck, Mattias Ekholm is out of the lineup and their offence is dry. Montembeault stopped all 30 shots he faced against Edmonton in their first meeting, and while I’m not saying he’s going to get a S-H-U-T-O-U-T tonight, I do expect him to play well.
Stack Of The Day - COL PP1 (Nathan MacKinnon - Valeri Nichushkin - Cale Makar)
We went with this combo Tuesday and it was alright. Did I expect more from the gang? Yes. Did they still deliver? Also, yes.
Now they get a matchup against the Sharks, and I can’t envision a scenario where Georgiev doesn’t get lit up like a Christmas tree. All three will cost you an arm and a leg but they are the best stack by a wide margin.

Player News
Dolphins signed No. 13 overall pick DT Kenneth Grant to a four-year contract.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Grant will sign his contract today. The former Michigan defensive tackle is expected to fill a major void left by Christian Wilkins, who left for the Raiders in the 2024 offseason. Grant totaled 32 tackles, three sacks, and seven TFLs in his final season at Michigan and excelled at stopping the run while also generating 27 pressures in his final season, per PFF.
Daulton Varsho picked up three hits, three RBI and a homer in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
Varsho has only played in seven games this year, but they’ve been seven good ones. He’s homered three times already, and his slugging percentage is a remarkable — and entirely unsustainable — .727 over 22 at-bats. Varsho has been a mediocre offensive player in his two seasons with the Blue Jays, but it’s possible at the age of 28 he’s having a breakout campaign. Far from a guarantee, but possible.
Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Ward, 31, gave the Angels a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer off Chris Bassitt in the first inning. He’s now gone deep in two of his last three games, and it ‘improves’ his slash to .181/.224/.391. Ward has been one of the most hot/cold players players in the sport over the last few years, so fantasy managers who can afford to make some roster moves may want to look at Ward while the going is good.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Chad Green picked up his first save of 2025 with a scoreless ninth against the Angels on Thursday.
Green got the save after Jeff Hoffman worked in back-to-back games — and struggled — in the first two contests against the Angels. He struck out two and looked the part while needing just nine pitches to get through the inning. Hoffman should remain the closer, but Green is on his tail if the struggles were to continue.
Chris Bassitt allowed five runs — four earned — while working six-plus innings against the Angels on Thursday while picking up a win.
Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.
