NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, January 3rd

There are some heavy favorites tonight and it points to the Edmonton Oilers being the chalk of the slate but that doesn't mean we can't find viable fantasy options in the other games.

NHL DFS Pick'em Picks on Sleeper Fantasy

Gustav Forsling and the Florida Panthers are coming off a loss last night but are in a decent spot to rebound versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. Forsling is incredibly consistent when it comes to shots on goal with at least two shots on goal in 16 straight games. Over the last two weeks, the Penguins have allowed 59.75 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the ninth-worst in the league.

Patrik Laine got a late start to the season but he's still putting up great offensive numbers for the Montreal Canadiens with 10 points in 13 games along with 37 shots on goal. He's one of their primary shot-takers and that should only continue tonight versus the Chicago Blackhawks, who allow 61.50 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fifth-worst in the league this season.

Jake Sanderson and the Ottawa Senators are playing some good hockey right now and his role on the first power-play unit puts him in a spot to rack up the shots. He comes in with 21 shots on goal over the last 10 games and should be able to continue that rate of production tonight versus the St. Louis Blues.

Friday Salary Cap DFS Picks

Goalie Of The Day: Sam Montembeault - MON

While the Montreal Canadiens might not be an elite team, Sam Montembeault is putting up solid fantasy numbers in most matchups. Will he give up a few goals? Probably, but he's racking up plenty of saves on a nightly basis and has a solid floor of points.

The matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks is a solid one, as they are only scoring 1.50 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations over the last two weeks, which is the third-lowest in the league. Montembeault is also less expensive, which allows you to pay up for the top forwards tonight.

Play Of The Day: Leon Draisaitl - EDM

Speaking of the top forwards tonight, let's turn to Leon Draisaitl. I prefer Draisaitl over Connor McDavid tonight. This is not to say I won't have McDavid in some lineups/stacks, but Draisaitl is simply on fire right now.

Over the last 10 games, Draisaitl has 20 points and 38 shots on goal, while McDavid has 17 points and 18 shots on goal. The Edmonton Oilers have a whopping 4.5 implied goal total against the Anaheim Ducks, who are on the second night of a back-to-back.

Value Play Of The Day: Shane Pinto - OTT

The Ottawa Senators are looking good right now and offer clear value with Shane Pinto. Over the last 10 games, Pinto has 7 points, 24 shots on goal, and 13 blocked shots, while skating on the first forward line and the second power-play unit.

Pinto is still only $3.3K on DraftKings and $4.8k on FanDuel. The point-per-dollar potential for Pinto is clear tonight, even with the Senators only carrying a 2.8 implied goal total.

Stack Of The Day: EDM PP1 (Leon Draisaitl, Connor McDavid, Evan Bouchard, Zach Hyman)

Listen, the Edmonton Oilers are the clear chalk of the night with a massive 4.5 implied goal total. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone considering the offensive potential their lineup has along with a juicy matchup versus the Anaheim Ducks

When it comes to actually stacking the Oilers' first power-play unit, it's really about who can you afford? They have four skaters who are $6.9K or more on DraftKings and that can strain lineup construction. However, with Sam Montembeault at goalie for the Canadiens being affordable tonight, it's possible to get three of these four in one lineup.

You could also opt for the Oilers' first forward line with McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Connor Brown. That stack doesn't have as much offensive upside but is far less expensive overall.
