Lions vs. Cowboys Predictions For NFL Week 6, Sunday 10/13
The Lions and Cowboys may not be division rivals, but thanks to a decade’s worth of crucial matchups with polarizing penalty calls, these are two fan bases that have a deep disdain. It was just last season that a wild touching-the-flag penalty arguably cost Detroit the #2 seed.
Regardless - this Sunday’s matchup. There’s no doubt that the Lions have been roaring far more than the ‘Boys thus far, so we aren’t surprised to see them favored, even on the road. It’s also worth noting that while a shootout wouldn’t be a shock, we have the highest listed total on the board this week.
We’ll be utilizing that fact for the best bet from our Lions vs. Cowboys predictions, but in a very specific way.
Detroit Lions: Keeping Pace With Minnesota
The Lions got to enjoy their bye week following an absolute beatdown on Monday Night Football in which they put up 42 points. So, they sit at 3-1 but are still behind the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North.
Now, the Vikes are on bye. So, while Detroit can’t exactly gain ground in the most efficient way possible, a victory this Sunday to advance to 4-1 would be a huge boost. After all, virtually no one expected Minnesota to be the only undefeated team remaining in the NFC at this point. On top of all that, it cannot be forgotten that this is a revenge game.
Dallas Cowboys: Looking The Part
We mentioned that this is a possible NFC Championship Game preview, but it was far more likely prior to the start of the season. That’s thanks to the fact that Dallas was among the NFC favorites but have not been convincing in any way.
Sure, they have a winning record at 3-2, but they were smashed 44-19 by the New Orleans Saints, allowed nearly 300 rushing yards to the Baltimore Ravens and even their wins haven’t been convincing. They snuck by the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers by a combined eight points, both of which were prime time games.
In other words, they simply aren’t looking like the team that has won 12 games in three straight seasons.
Lions vs. Cowboys Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines
We shared that we weren't surprised to see Detroit as road favorites, and you can see the latest Lions vs. Cowboys odds at DraftKings Sportsbook below:
- Point Spread: Detroit Lions -3 (-115) vs. Dallas Cowboys +3 (-105)
- Money Line: Detroit Lions (-162) vs. Dallas Cowboys (+136)
- Game Total (Over/Under): Over 52.5 (-108) vs. Under 52.5 (-112)
Lions vs. Cowboys Predictions: Detroit First Half Over 13.5 Points (-120 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
We also mentioned to keep the high total in mind as we work towards the best bet from our Lions vs. Cowboys predictions, and we’re targeting the Detroit side of the matchup specifically. There was consideration for the entire first half total, but Dallas’ trends provide more value in our approach.
Similarly, Detroit is allowing just 8.3 points per game in the first half, which is the fifth-fewest in the NFL. On the flip side, their offense has been surging out of the gates, scoring 14.3 points per game in the first half.
That’s an ideal matchup against a Cowboys defense that allows the sixth-most first-half points per game at 14.2/game. Such a high average should not only hold up, but perhaps even more should be expected given the recent injuries to star defensive players like Micah Parsons. We’re also taking this approach to avoid any late-game heroics.
Dallas has needed to pull off comebacks due to the stats we just mentioned, which has seen them keep games close. For example, they fought back from a 21-6 halftime deficit against the Ravens to end the game in a 28-25 loss. So, we’ll go for a potential early payout with the best bet from our Lions vs. Cowboys picks of Detroit’s first half team total over 13.5 points (-120 at DraftKings Sportsbook).
