Packers vs. Eagles Predictions For Friday Night Football, NFL Week 1

The Packers and Eagles are two teams within the top five favorites to win the NFC this season, so the NFL is providing us with a great matchup to transition into the main Sunday slate. It’s also one where all eyes will be on the QBs.

Two seasons ago, Philly QB Jalen Hurts earned a massive extension after taking the Eagles to the Super Bowl, and this past offseason, Green Bay QB Jordan Love earned one that has him tied with as the highest-paid player in the NFL on an annual basis. However, those aren’t the only key players in this matchup.

Both teams will also be featuring new RBs - Saquon Barkley for the Eagles and Josh Jacobs for the Pack. So many offensive weapons is going to play a part in the best bet that we have from our Packers vs. Eagles predictions, but first let’s dive further into each team individually.

Green Bay Packers: Building On The Second Half Of Last Season

We mentioned that Green Bay and Philly ended their seasons last year on opposite ends of the spectrum, and the Packers were on the positive side of that. Love looked the part the second half of the season, and that culminated in the team dismantling the Dallas Cowboys 48-32 in the Wild Card Round despite being significant underdogs.

Fans can debate if Love deserved his lucrative contract or not all day, but the fact remains that he was a top-three QB over the final half of the season by nearly all major metrics. They were even a field goal away from beating the San Francisco 49ers, who ultimately represented the NFC in the Super Bowl.

Philadelphia Eagles: Reverting To Their Form Of Two Seasons Ago

Speaking of NFC representatives in the Super Bowl, that was the Eagles just two seasons ago. Despite that, the second half of last season was such a polar opposite that head coach Nick Sirianni was, and likely still is, on the hot seat.

It’s difficult to believe given that they reached the Super Bowl two seasons ago and began last season 10-1, but that is the business of the NFL. So too are offseason moves, and the Eagles will be without C Jason Kelce due to retirement and edge rusher Hasson Reddick due to a trade demand, just to name a few.

Of course, the acquisition of Barkley from the division-rival New York Giants is a huge one, so let’s quickly check out the Packers vs. Eagles odds so we can help make your Packers vs. Eagles picks.

Packers vs. Eagles Game Total: Over 48.5 Total Points (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)

When it comes to the best bet from our Packers vs. Eagles predictions, we’re going to stick with one of those standard markets shown above. We’re expecting plenty of fireworks in this stand-alone Friday night game, and BetMGM is providing a bit of value as well.

Many other sportsbooks have this total listed at 49 points, so we’re at least avoiding a push condition. Regardless, there is plenty of reason to expect around 50 points tonight. First and foremost, we already mentioned the Pack putting up 48 in one of the last times we saw them on the field, and that was against a Cowboys defense that was top five in terms of points and yards allowed per game last season.

On the opposite end of those numbers was the Eagles, who had one of the biggest defensive disappointments in the NFL. The names on paper should have been great, but Philly allowed the third-most points per game last season, and were particularly terrible against the pass (second-most passing yards allowed per game).

That’s great news for Love and company given the cruise control they were on. As for the Packers defense, they have been in the bottom 10 in terms of rushing yards allowed per game for consecutive seasons, so Barkley should have a field day. All that should also be a recipe for a high-scoring game, so our Packers vs. Eagles predictions are focused on over 48.5 points (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook).
