Broncos vs. Seahawks Predictions for NFL Week 1, Sunday, 9/8

This Week 1 matchup is a rematch of Super Bowl 48, but it’s safe to say that the Broncos and Seahawks are far different teams at this point. That’s true beyond former Denver QB Peyton Manning and former Seattle QB Russell Wilson as well.

Speaking of QBs, that has been a serious area of struggle for the Broncos, and that’s with Hall-of-Fame QB John Elway in the front office. They’re beginning this season with yet another different starter, and Seattle has made their fair share of changes as well.

Before we get further into those for each team individually, our Broncos vs. Seahawks predictions are also focused on the known. Denver should be focusing on their defense carrying things for now, while Seattle needs to focus on making up for their defensive losses this offseason.

They were quite significant, which impacted our decision in terms of Broncos vs. Seahawks picks, so let’s check out each team.

Denver Broncos: Bouncing Back With Bo Nix

We’d expect the Broncos to lean on their defense to start the season, as they’ll be starting the season with a new signal caller, as mentioned above. Not only is it a different starter, but it’s a rookie.

That would be Alabama-native Bo Nix, who had quite an interesting collegiate career. After a dramatic stint at his hometown Auburn, he made a huge trip out west to join the Oregon Ducks. Things seemed to go much smoother in Eugene, as he led the FBS in completion percentage last season.

Such an impressive turnaround earned him the right to be drafted with the #12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This means that head coach Sean Payton will now have a hand-picked QB rather than having Russell Wilson thrust into his lap. Although it’s only the preseason, Bo Nix was among the absolute best performers at any position.

Seattle Seahawks: Proving Their Worth Without Pete Carroll

While we focused on the Broncos’ key addition, the Seahawks offseason was all about significant losses. At the top of the pyramid was Seattle and longtime head coach Pete Carroll parting ways.

Despite being one of the most successful coaches on the market, he didn’t land a new job, either. As for those on the field, the team has a lot to prove without Carroll leading them. Primarily, those losses were on the defensive end, and the Seahawks were already far from the old Legion of Boom.

They lost key starters LB Bobby Wagner and the safety duo of Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams. On top of that was DL Mario Edwards leaving town, so they suffered losses on all three levels. To replace Carroll, they brought in former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, so he certainly has his work cut out for him.

Broncos vs. Seahawks Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines

The current Broncos vs. Seahawks odds at DraftKings Sportsbook demonstrate that Seattle is one of the most significant favorites of the Week 1 slate:

Broncos vs. Seahawks Point Spread: Denver +6 (-110 at DraftKings Sportsbook

Seeing the Seahawks as such heavy favorites is one of the most surprising lines of the opening weekend in our opinion. Sure, they’re at home where they are known for the 12th man, but this is not a far trip for Denver and there is plenty of time to prepare for it with it being the first game of the season.

Even still, it’s all the more surprising given all the losses that we went through above. Admittedly, we have to put some trust in Bo Nix looking the part, but he’s done so with what’s been put in front of him at this point. He should continue to do so with a Seattle defense that is a shell of what it was last season.

Frankly, even if they were still intact, it wouldn’t be much to write home about. Seattle allowed the third-most yards per game last season and ranked 25th in terms of points allowed per game. Given those defense struggles in combination with the key losses, you could also consider taking the over as part of our Broncos vs. Seahawks picks.

However, as for the best bet from our Broncos vs. Seahawks predictions, we’re rolling with Denver +6 (-110 at DraftKings Sportsbook).
