Texans re-signed DL Mario Edwards to a two-year, $9.5 million contract.
The ten-year veteran will return to Houston for a second and third season following a 2024 season in which he started 13 games for Houston. Edwards has 52 tackles over the past two seasons and will rejoin a Houston defensive line graded by Pro Football Focus as the league’s tenth best pass rush.

Edwards was suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy but can now rejoin the team ahead of Week 11’s game against the Cowboys. Edwards has totaled 18 tackles and two sacks in the six games he’s appeared in this season. He should resume his role as a starter along the interior now that he’s back.

The Texans just got Denico Autry back from suspension and Edwards will now take a seat, probably replacing him on the exempt list for the Texans. Edwards had two sacks and eight solo tackles while playing 59 percent of Houston’s defensive snaps in six games.

Edwards, 30, a former second round draft pick by the Raiders, is a good fit for Houston’s 4-3 defense. Last year in Seattle, Edwards had 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He has 156 career tackles, 21.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and six pass deflections over his nine NFL seasons.
