Don’t look now, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 2-0 to start the season, most recently taking down the Detroit Lions on the road. Now, they’ll be back by the bay to host the Denver Broncos, which is a matchup that we rarely see. Broncos vs. Buccaneers Predictions for NFL Week 3, Sunday 9/22

Tampa’s matchup with the Lions last weekend wasn’t just an upset victory, but it was revenge for last season’s playoff game. Detroit knocked out the Bucs in the Divisional Round, which was already further than many expected QB Baker Mayfield and company to go.

The franchise was clearly impressed by their run, as they extended Mayfield this offseason to the tune of three years and $100 million. So far, it’s proven to be the right call, but is it sustainable? Denver is countering with a rookie QB under center - Bo Nix - who had quite a promising preseason.

Despite that, the start of the real season hasn’t gone his way, as the Broncos are 0-2 through the first two weeks. This Sunday could truly be the turning point for both teams, as 3-0 or 0-3 are quite indicative of their trajectory.

Denver Broncos: Battling Through Growing Pains

Although there were other QBs like Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels taken ahead of Nix in the most recent NFL Draft, there were even those saying Nix would have the best season of the bunch after his preseason showing. Well, when the real deal started, the growing pains kicked in.

After being college football’s most accurate passer last season, Nix threw for just 138 yards and two picks in his NFL debut. That was then followed up with a two-pick game last weekend in his home debut. So, going on the road once again to the East Coast may not be the best transition for the young QB.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Taking Over Florida

Speaking of the East Coast, the West Coast of Florida has been blessed with Baker looking like he was expected to when he was drafted #1 overall a handful of years ago. The WR duo of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin have taken turns going off through the first two weekends, which is a great sign for the team.

With the Jacksonville Jaguars starting 0-2 and the Miami Dolphins sitting at 1-1, the Bucs are surprisingly enough the best team in Florida right now. Of course, as far as the NFC South goes, the 2-0 New Orleans Saints will be looking to stand in their way. For this week, though, it’s all about Broncos vs. Buccaneers predictions.

Broncos vs. Buccaneers Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines

The best bet from our Broncos vs. Buccaneers predictions isn’t a typical market some fans target, but before we dive into that, here are the latest Broncos vs. Buccaneers odds at DraftKings Sportsbook for the standard markets:

Broncos vs. Buccaneers Predictions: Denver Team Total Under 16.5 Points (-102 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

Given how we kicked off our Broncos vs. Buccaneers predictions, our best bet may not come as much of a surprise. Rather than taking the under for the overall total, we’re going to isolate the Denver side of the matchup.

After all, we saw the Bucs score 37 points themselves in Week 1. In that matchup, they allowed just 20 points; of course, that was to a very mediocre Washington Commanders team. However, that rebuttal is quickly nullified with their Week 2 performance. Not only did the Bucs go on the road to Detroit, but they completely stymied the Lions offense.

They allowed just 16 points to one of the most complete offenses in the NFL, including holding Detroit QB Jared Goff without a touchdown pass while picking him off twice. Tampa’s running game definitely needs to improve, but again, we’re focused on their defense against the Denver offense.

Until they prove otherwise with QB Bo Nix at the helm, the best bet from our Broncos vs. Buccaneers picks is Denver’s team total under 16.5 (-102 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
