The MLB DFS main slate for April 6 takes a big hit as we go from a six-game slate to just four. Both the Mets/Marlins and Reds/Phillies games were postponed, leaving us with a small slate that will be punctuated by our first game at Coors Field. We’ve checked the MLB Weather Report and we shouldn’t have any issues with four games from which we are choosing, but now it’s about finding the right value. Neither DraftKings nor FanDuel have had much of an opportunity to adjust their pricing, so we’ll take a long look at the Rockies/Nationals game and see where else we can sprinkle in some value.

MLB DFS Value Pitchers

Chris Sale, Boston Red Sox (DraftKings: $7,500; FanDuel: $9,000)

A quick reminder that the price tag isn’t the only reason for a value play. Sometimes, it’s about how a guy is priced in comparison to the rest of the field. Sale is sitting as the fourth-most expensive pitcher on the DraftKings slate and third-highest on FanDuel. I’m not so sure I would use him on FanDuel with just one pitcher, but I would certainly take a look at him on DK as a second pitcher. No, we don’t know which version we are going to get, but in a GPP tournament, I’ll take a shot on him against the Tigers who have a league-worst .216 wOBA against southpaws this season with an ugly 35.3-percent strikeout rate. It may be their home opener an they just took two of three from the Astros, but I’m not buying what they are selling.

MLB DFS Value Hitters

Keibert Ruiz, C Washington Nationals (DraftKings: $3,100; FanDuel: $2,900)

With the Royals facing Kevin Gausman, I see no reason to pay up at catcher today which means we can head over to Coors Field immediately and check out the switch-hitting Ruiz who seems to be swinging the bat well against lefties to open the season. The sample size isn’t huge, but a .375 average with a .443 wOBA against southpaws is as good a place to start as any.

Spencer Torkelson, 1B Detroit Tigers (DraftKings: $2,100; FanDuel: $2,400)

Whether you’re paying down at first base or just looking for a salary-saver at utility, Torkelson sits in a good spot against lefty Chris Sale, who could give up a few hits and runs today. Torkelson has four hits over his last three games and one home run on the season. There’s some power upside to be had, so if you’re fading Sale and trying to be different, this could be an intriguing play.

Lane Thomas, OF Washington Nationals (DraftKings: $3,300; FanDuel: $3,000)

He’s off to a strong start this season, batting .333 with four RBI and a stolen base and will likely be leading off against lefty Kyle Freeland. We’re not looking for power, but we are looking for some stolen base potential. Thomas owns a career .362 wOBA against southpaws and with how aggressive all teams are looking on the bases, he could be a nice option today.

Coors Field Note: Let’s face it, with the way the pricing is set for many of the Nationals and Rockies, I think you can get away with some bargain players on either team today. The bottom-third of the Rockies lineup could be an interesting cheap stack, but just keep in mind that with just four games on the slate, Coors will be chalky.
