Keibert Ruiz went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI against the Marlins on Saturday.
Ruiz kept up his incredible start to the season with a three-hit day against the Marlins on Saturday. He knocked a base hit and scored in the fourth, then led off the sixth with a hit before crossing the plate again for his second run. Ruiz collected his third hit in the seventh, driving in one run. The 26-year-old catcher is hitting .370/.442/.543 with two homers and 10 RBI across 52 plate appearances.
Keibert Ruiz went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer against the Phillies on Saturday.
Ruiz went yard for the second time in as many games to start the season, taking Jesus Luzardo deep for a two-run shot in the second inning. He added another extra-base hit with a double in the sixth. The 26-year-old struggled to get going last season after starting the year recovering from an illness and could be in store for a bounce-back season.
Keibert Ruiz hit his first two homers of the spring Thursday in the Nationals’ 12-1 rout of the Cardinals.
Both were wind-aided, but they were hit pretty well. In fact, the second, which would have been a double under normal circumstances, left his bat at 108.1 mph, which was ever so slightly harder than any ball hit in the regular season last year (he topped out at 108.0 mph). Ruiz had a hard-hit rate of 25% last year, which is how he compiled a mere .229 average despite striking out only 11% of the time. He’s fared better in the past, and he still might eventually find a better approach that would allow him to hit for more power. As is, he’s not a starter in one-catcher mixed leagues.
Keibert Ruiz went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Cubs in Sunday’s loss.
Ruiz is 1-for-19 with no walks in his last five games. It seems like he’s made some defensive progress this season, but his .224/.256/.360 line is horrible. Even though the Nationals have him signed through 2030, they might need to upgrade behind the plate once they’re ready to start contending again.
