MLB Weather Today, 7/7

There will be a few pop-up showers, meaning a delay is very possible for this game.

Maybe a spotty shower or two, but the game should get in.

MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

If you add Jhonkensy Noel into your lineup, you'll free up a lot of money to add some of the other big names listed below.

Noel matches up very well against Birdsong today, and at his low price, he should easily be inserted into your lineup.

Meanwhile, Tarik Skubal certainly has the most potential in the pitching department. He'd be my first choice, even with his high-tier price.

Core MLB DFS Pitchers

Tarik Skubal, Detroit Tigers

I don't think there's a better pitcher on the slate than Tarik Skubal. It's why he's No. 1 on the list for FanDuel and DraftKings.

Skubal has struck out 26.2% of batters over the last month. He's also held opponents to a .309 wOBA and has walked just 5.6% of batters with nearly 47% of ground balls induced.

The left-hander will face a Reds lineup with six batters who have struck out at least 23.1% of the time against lefties. There are also five batters in the Reds' lineup with a wOBA of no higher than a .293 number.

Additionally, the Reds have walked just 4.6% of the time against lefties over the last month. Skubal should dominate.

Sean Manaea, New York Mets

Over the last month, the Pirates' projected lineup has only hit a .121 ISO and wOBA of .275 against lefties. They've also walked just 4.2% of the time against lefties in the last 30 days.

That's good news for Sean Manaea. After all, the Mets lefty has held his last 109 batters to a .137 ISO and wOBA of .300. He's also terrific against righties, holding them to a .078 ISO and wOBA of .253.

That said, it looks like the Pirates will assemble a lineup with only righties. Therefore, Manaea should have a quality game and probably will land a quality start against the Pirates.

Kyle Gibson, St. Louis Cardinals

Kyle Gibson isn't known for his high strikeouts. However, he's added 27.5% of strikeouts over the last 30 days. For example, that's a higher rate than Tarik Skubal in the previous 30 days.

Gibson has also held his last 91 batters to a .123 ISO and wOBA of .298. Furthermore, he's held those 91 batters to 19.3% of fly balls and has induced nearly 46% of ground balls.

He'll take on a Washington lineup that has hit a .131 ISO against righties over the last 30 days. In reality, don't expect Gibson to add a high strikeout rate. Just expect him to get through five or six innings without allowing much damage.

If you think the price is worth it, grab Gibson for your DFS pitching slot(s).

Michael Mercado, Philadelphia Phillies

You'll have to be careful here. After all, some showers and a delay could impact Mercado's ability to pitch a full game. Just keep looking at the weather forecast if you're considering Mercado.

Mercado threw to 22 batters in his first start with the club last week. He struck out 30.8% of righties and held those 22 batters to a .050 ISO and wOBA of .161.

That got my attention, especially with Atlanta's projected lineup striking out 28.5% of the time against righties over the last month. The Braves lineup has also hit a .145 ISO and wOBA of .254 over the last 30 days.

Mercado can be a great piece if the rain doesn't ruin it.

Core MLB DFS Hitters

Francisco Lindor, SS, Brandon Nimmo, OF, New York Mets

The Mets will face Luis L. Ortiz for today's matchup against the Pirates.

Ortiz has limited power from righties but has still allowed a .200 ISO and wOBA of .377 to his last 41 lefties.

Ultimately, this season, Ortiz has allowed a .158 ISO and wOBA of .334, with 34.5% of fly balls allowed to lefties.

Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo have set the table for the Mets against righties lately. And they've done it well. Lindor has hit a .234 ISO and wOBA of .352 as a left-handed hitter over the last 30 days. Meanwhile, Nimmo has smashed a .288 ISO and wOBA of .435 against righties.

A lot of the New York lineup can do damage, but the lefties have a little more potential.

Jhonkensy Noel, OF, Cleveland Guardians

Jhonkensy Noel has slugged a .267 ISO and wOBA of .386 against his first 17 righties faced as a right-handed batter. Noel has struck out at a high rate, but he's also smacked 55.6% of fly balls with only 33.3% of ground balls against righties.

He'll take on San Francisco's Hayden Birdsong, who has allowed his first 22 righties to just a .526 ISO and wOBA of .528 with only 13.6% of strikeouts.

If Noel doesn't strike out, he's a significant threat against any right-handed pitcher. Ultimately, Birdsong has allowed 58.8% of fly balls to righties since starting for the Giants. He's also allowed 58.8% of hard contact to righties.

Noel has a low-tier price but can put up high-tier numbers.

Jose Miranda, 3B, Carlos Santana, 1B, Byron Buxton, OF, Minnesota Twins

I'm ready to gang up on Spencer Arrighetti of the Astros today.

Arrighetti has really struggled over the last month, allowing a .273 ISO and wOBA of .391 to his previous 103 batters. While he's adding a high rate of strikeouts against lefties, Arrighetti has still allowed a .368 ISO and wOBA of .447 with 34.8% of fly balls to them over the last month.

Meanwhile, righties have also hit a .200 ISO and wOBA of .348 against him over the last month.

Therefore, consider some of the most consistent bats on the Twins. Jose Miranda has hit a .321 ISO and wOBA of .589 with only 7.8% of strikeouts against righties over the last 30 days.

Then there's Carlos Santana, who has hit a .186 ISO and wOBA of .360 with only 16.9% of strikeouts against righties in the last month.

Finally, Byron Buxton has smacked a .302 ISO and wOBA of .409 with only 20% of strikeouts against righties.

I'd make sure to target these three bats for your lineups.

Seiya Suzuki, OF, Chicago Cubs

Seiya Suzuki and the Cubs will take on Jose Soriano of the Angels.

Soriano has struggled with right-handed batters all year long, allowing a .161 ISO and wOBA of .331. Ultimately, Soriano has allowed a 50.6% hard contact rate and has given up a 9.9% barrel percentage to righties this year.

Although the Cubs haven't hit very well against righties over the last 30 days, Suzuki has been the exception. He's hit a .250 ISO and wOBA of .351 over the last month against righties as a right-handed batter.

Suzuki has also hit 35.3% of fly balls and has limited ground balls to below 30% over the last 30 days against righties.

He's got plenty of potential today.
