MLB DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook
MLB Weather: Today, 8/3
San Francisco Giants vs Cincinnati Reds
There are showers in the area but delays look unlikely.
Miami Marlins vs Atlanta Braves
This game could see pop-up storms but they are expected to miss the ballpark.
MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
This is another slate where I largely gravitate towards the mid-tier. Jack Flaherty is in a great spot but so is Bailey Ober at a lower cost and Hunter Greene has been as dominant as it gets.
Offensively, the Red Sox and Dodgers are my favorite stacks, with some interest in the Braves as well. Rafael Devers is one of my favorite bats on the slate.
Recommended MLB DFS Starting Pitchers

- Ronel Blanco (6.5 Ks +105) vs Tampa Bay Rays
Best Odds for a Win
Core MLB DFS Pitchers
Jack Flaherty, Los Angeles Dodgers
Jack Flaherty makes his debut with the Dodgers in a great spot against Oakland. While It is true that Oakland has been a top-ten offense over the last 30 days, Flaherty has been an elite arm, with a 2.95 ERA and 11.22 K/9 on the year. He has given up home runs in four of his last five starts, but he’s allowed two or fewer runs in seven of his last eight outings and he has great win equity with the Dodgers bats behind him.
Hunter Greene, Cincinnati Reds
Hunter Greene was an absolute force in July, allowing only nine hits across 27 innings while allowing a single run. He recorded seven or more strikeouts in three of his last four starts, including a 10-strikeout game against the Rockies. The Giants rank in the bottom half of the league in most categories while holding a 23% strikeout rate over the last 30 days.
Bailey Ober, Minnesota Twins
Bailey Ober gets one of the best matchups on the board facing off against a White Sox team that ranks dead last in almost every offensive category over the last 30 days. They have a 26.6% strikeout rate over that span and Ober is coming off his best start of the season, striking out 11 while allowing one hit through eight innings. Ober has a 3.29 over his last 10 starts and has solid odds to record a win, despite Garret Crochet being on the other side.
Kyle Harrison, San Francisco Giants
Kyle Harrison is coming off a dominant performance, allowing one run on one hit while striking out 11 against the Rockies. He’s in another great spot against the Reds who rank 25th or worse in almost every category against LHP over the last 30 days. The Reds have a 28.9% strikeout rate and we just saw Blake Snell toss a no-hitter on Friday night, so Harrison looks to be ready for another dominant night.
Zach Eflin, Baltimore Orioles
In the value tier, we have Zach Eflin making his second start for the Orioles against the Guardians who rank at the bottom of the league in most categories against righties over the last 30 days. He’s been largely up and down all year and the 10 hits he allowed last start is not ideal, but he did tally seven strikeouts and escaped with a quality start. He has huge win equity now playing for the Orioles and I have some interest in him considering how bad Cleveland has been against this split.
Recommended MLB DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
- Atlanta Braves (5.6)
- Sam Diego Padres (5.1)
- Cincinnati Reds (4.9)
- New York Mets (4.8)

Note: Will Be Updated as Official Starting Lineups Are Released
Rafael Devers, 3B, Boston Red Sox
Rafael Devers is on a tear. Over his last 10 games, he has a .475 BA, 1.411 OPS, and has tallied 10 extra-base hits and two home runs. On the mound is Dane Dunning who is allowing a .359 wOBA and .504 to lefties on the season. He’s one of the most expensive bats on the slate but also one of my favorites considering he is crushing the ball right now.
Matt Olson, 1B, Atlanta Braves
Matt Olson finally seems to be coming around in the wake of a largely struggling Braves offense. Over his last 10 games, he has a .270 BA, 1.048 OPS, and has recorded five home runs with eight RBI. This season has been a far cry from his preceding seasons, but with 54 home runs in 2023, we know the power is there. In a small sample size, Kyle Tyler for the Marlins is allowing a .408 wOBA and .500 SLG to lefties so this may be Olson’s time to shine.
Ezequiel Tovar, SS, Colorado Rockies
You can spend up at shortstop but since I’m not in love with most of the matchups, I find myself gravitating lower to Tovar. He’s been streaky this season and over his last 10 games, he has a .333 BA, .881 OPS, and has recorded five extra-base hits and two home runs. Martin Perez takes the mound for the Pirates and he has allowed a .520 SLG and 10 home runs to righties, while Tovar has a .214 ISO against southpaws.
Gavin Lux, 2B, Los Angeles Dodgers
With second base being a very bleak position on this slate, I prefer just spending down on Gavin Lux. He’s not the most exciting player but the Dodgers have him batting third and over his last 10 games he has a .379 BA, 1.073 OPS, and has hits in seven straight games. He’s providing very solid production at a minimal cost, allowing you to spend up elsewhere and he can easily be stacked with someone like Shohei Ohtani.

Player News
Tobias Myers threw five shutout innings for Triple-A Nashville on Sunday.
He also allowed four hits while striking out six and walking none. He now has a 3.11 ERA in 46 1/3 innings with a 40/13 K/BB ratio. This is his second straight shutout outing, and whatever the Brewers were hoping Myers would fix in the minors seems to have worked. There is not currently a spot in the Brewers’ rotation, but they could move Jose Quintana and/or Freddy Peralta at the trade deadline, which would give him another chance.
Red Sox OF prospect Jhostynxon Garcia went 2-for-4 with a walk, two home runs, and five RBI for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.
It looks like yet another MLB-ready outfielder is coming to Boston. Garcia is now hitting .311/.388/.604 in 27 games at Triple-A with eight home runs, 19 RBI, and 21 runs. For fantasy purposes, the only downside might be speed. He stole 17 bases last year but has just four this season. He is emerging as a real contender for fantasy value in 2026, whether it’s in Boston or somewhere else.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Diamondbacks have reached an agreement with James McCann on a one-year contract.
The 35-year-old backstop exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Braves after hitting .305/.341/.510 with six homers and 32 RBI in 164 plate appearances at the minor league level. He’ll help share the load behind the plate for the Diamondbacks with Jose Herrera now that Gabriel Moreno (hand) is shelved.
Edmundo Sosa went 3-for-4 and blasted a three-run homer on Sunday night, powering the Phillies to a 7-1 victory over the visiting Mets.
The 29-year-old infielder broke the game open with a majestic 430-foot (109.4 mph EV) three-run shot off of David Peterson in the fifth inning that extended the Phillies’ lead to 5-0. Sosa also singled in the third inning but was picked off of second base. He then smacked a double off of Dedniel Nunez in the sixth inning but was left stranded at third base. With his three-hit attack, Sosa is now hitting a healthy .279/.321/.394 with a pair of homers and 16 RBI in 113 plate appearances.
Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-4 and belted his 24th home run of the season as the Phillies triumphed over the Mets on Sunday evening in Philadelphia.
The 32-year-old slugger opened the scoring in the ballgame, clobbering a 1-2 slider from David Peterson for a 432-foot (107.0 mph EV) solo shot in the fourth inning. Schwarber also singled off of Tyler Zuber in the seventh inning. He’s having himself another outstanding first half of the season, slashing .249/.380/.540 with the aforementioned 24 long balls, 55 RBI and six stolen bases.
Nick Castellanos went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI as the Phillies dispatched of the visiting Mets on Sunday evening.
The 33-year-old slugger smacked a one-out double off of David Peterson in the fourth inning and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Otto Kemp. He also added a run-scoring double off of Tyler Zuber in the seventh inning that increased the Phillies’ lead to 7-0. On the season, he’s now slashing .286/.327/.446 with eight homers and 41 RBI.
