Throughout the entire 2025 MLB season, I’ll have you covered here at Fantasy Alarm with the fantasy baseball injury report. The MLB injury report this week features some fantasy baseball injuries, including Blake Snell and Ketel Marte.
Most leagues have already had their fantasy baseball waivers run, but in case your league allows for daily moves, be sure to read on to learn more about some notable MLB injuries, and the corresponding fantasy impact.
Fantasy Baseball Injury Report This Week
This week’s MLB injury report isn’t overly vast, but it does contain a lot of noteworthy fantasy baseball injuries for your teams. If you used an earlier round selection on the likes of Blake Snell and Ketel Marte, you unfortunately now have to deal with them on the injured list for the foreseeable future.
On the other hand, fantasy managers are chomping at the bit to get Spencer Strider, Clarke Schmidt, and Freddie Freeman back in their lineups. Additionally, Ivan Herrera, early fantasy baseball breakout, is battling some knee inflammation, and is day-to-day.
As you prepare to finalize your fantasy baseball lineups for the upcoming week, don’t forget to take a look at James Grande’s best fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups, and tune in to the Caught Stealing Podcast later this week with Howard Bender and yours truly for all things fantasy baseball!
MLB Injury Report: Starting Pitchers
Blake Snell, Los Angeles Dodgers - Shoulder
Snell was placed on the IL with shoulder inflammation, and I’d expect the team to be cautious with the veteran southpaw. His velocity was down ever so slightly in his last start, but not enough that it would raise eyebrows.
Spencer Strider, Atlanta Braves - Elbow
I was looking at a mid-April return for Strider, but it could be sooner. Atlanta may have his next start come with the big-league club, but the chance remains that they opt for one more rehab appearance for their star right-hander.
Clarke Schmidt, New York Yankees - Shoulder
Schmidt’s rehab appearance on April 5th hardly could have gone any better, as he racked up seven strikeouts and allowed just one hit over 3.1 scoreless innings.
Nestor Cortes, Milwaukee Brewers - Elbow
After his best start of the year, Cortes was placed on the IL with a flexor strain in his pitching arm. Seems like he may have been battling it for a bit…
Jack Leiter, Texas Rangers - Finger
Last week I had mentioned that Leiter’s next start could be pushed back, but I didn’t expect him to hit the IL. Well, I was wrong. A blister will send him to the IL, an unfortunate turn for Leiter, who has shown through two starts how darn good he can be when he isn’t handing out walks left and right.
David Peterson, New York Mets - Head
Peterson was removed in the fifth inning with nausea and blurred vision. Yikes! Peterson is saying he feels better and that the doctors aren’t overly concerned, leaving room for optimism on him making his next start.
Michael Soroka, Washington Nationals - Biceps
Soroka is no stranger to the IL at this point in his career, and unfortunately, he’ll head back to an all too familiar place. A biceps strain in his pitching arm forced Washington to place him on the 10-day IL.
MLB Injury Report: Relievers
Alexis Diaz, Cincinnati Reds - Hamstring
Diaz has posted a 3:3 K/BB ratio across two rehab appearances in Louisville. His activation from the IL seems to be returning, and one would figure he would take the majority of save chances upon his return to the big-league club.
MLB Injury Report: Hitters
Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers - Ankle
The belief at this juncture is that Freeman will be activated and rejoin the Los Angeles lineup on April 11.
Ketel Marte, Arizona Diamondbacks - Hamstring
Marte was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain, and the team has already said he will miss weeks, not days. The injury comes at an unfortunate time, as Marte opened the year slashing .346/.469/.462 with a .421 wOBA through eight games.
Matt McLain, Cincinnati Reds - Hamstring
McLain was scratched on April 4 with hamstring tightness, but he appeared as a pinch-hitter in that contest, indicating that the injury might not be anything serious. However, he’s yet to appear in a game since then. Keep an eye on this, as a possible IL trip could be in store for McLain.
Ivan Herrera, St. Louis Cardinals - Knee
Herrera is dealing with some inflammation in his left knee, and he’ll be day-to-day for the time being. The Cardinals are hoping he doesn’t miss too much time, as the young backstop has a .381/.458/1.048 slash line with four home runs and 11 RBI through seven games.
George Springer, Toronto Blue Jays - Back
Springer left Saturday’s game early with back spasms, and while he wasn’t in the starting lineup on Sunday, he did enter the game as a pinch-runner. Consider him day-to-day at the moment.
Victor Robles, Seattle Mariners - Wrist/Shoulder
Robles made an incredible catch on Sunday, but it did come at the expense of having to leave the game. Consider him day-to-day at this juncture but wouldn’t be surprised if an IL stint is in his future.
Josh Jung, Texas Rangers - Neck
Fantasy managers who drafted Jung will have April 8 circled on their calendars, as that is the date the team is hopeful he will be activated from the injured list and return to the hot corner.
Nolan Gorman, St. Louis Cardinals - Hamstring
Gorman was placed on the injured list due to a hamstring strain. Gorman proclaimed the injury as “super mild” so perhaps his stay on the IL won’t be much longer than the minimum 10 days.
Player News
White Sox signed RHP Keone Kela to a minor league contract.
He’ll report to the team’s Arizona Complex league squad where he’ll work himself into game shape. The 32-year-old hurler spent the 2023 season in Japan and worked in the Mexican League in 2024 where he compiled a 2.70 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 40/6 K/BB ratio over 40 innings. What he does have that most in the White Sox’ bullpen don’t, is experience in the ninth inning. He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2021 but he does have 28 career saves under his belt. In the deepest of AL-only formats, he could be worth a look as an extremely speculative shot at saves.
Zach Neto (shoulder) could return to the Angels to make his highly anticipated season debut on Friday.
Neto cleared the final hurdle on his minor league rehab assignment — playing shortstop for nine innings on consecutive days. He’s getting the night off on Thursday as the Angels’ brass meets to decide whether or not he’s ready to return or if they want him to play in a few more games before coming back. Either way, it sounds like his return is imminent. Fantasy managers who have been stashing him may finally start to reap some rewards over the weekend.
Twins placed OF Matt Wallner on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 16, with a left hamstring strain.
As anticipated, Wallner lands on the injured list after injuring his hamstring during Tuesday’s ballgame. There’s still no word on the severity of the strain or how much time Wallner stands to miss. Jonah Bride — who was acquired from the Marlins — was added to the Twins’ roster in a corresponding move on Thursday.
Wyatt Langford (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Thursday.
The 23-year-old budding superstar will serve as the designated hitter on Thursday night before easing his way back into the outfield. Langford wanted to skip the rehab assignment altogether, so as long as he shows that he’s ready to go, there’s a chance that the Rangers could bring him back at some point during their weekend series against the Dodgers.
Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs on Thursday afternoon, propelling the Phillies to a 6-4 victory over the visiting Giants.
Schwarber got the Phillies on the board with a go-ahead two-run single off of Jordan Hicks and then scored on a wild pitch as part of a five-run opening inning. He also reached on an infield single in the fifth inning but was left stranded there. The 32-year-old slugger is off to a strong start to the 2025 campaign, slashing .284/.435/.597 with six homers, 14 RBI and a stolen base in his first 85 plate appearances.
José Alvarado notched his fourth save of the season on Thursday, protecting a two-run advantage in the ninth inning against the Giants.
The 29-year-old left-hander came on with a three-run lead to protect, but things got a bit closer as he served up a one-out solo homer to Tyler Fitzgerald. After getting Wilmer Flores on a ground ball to shortstop, Alvarado walked Jung Hoo Lee to bring the tying run to the plate before retiring Christian Koss on a fielder’s choice to end it. He appears to be locked in as the preferred ninth inning option for manager Rob Thomson and should continue to provide plenty of fantasy value for as long as he remains healthy and stationed there.
