2024 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: Diaz couldn't replicate his 1.84 ERA from 2022, but he was still dominant for fantasy baseball managers. His ERA jumped to 3.07, but he converted 37-of-40 save opportunities, while also winning nine games and posting a 30.1 percent strikeout rate. He has some command issues, so walks will always be prevalent in some manner with him, but both his fastball and slider can generate swings-and-misses, with his slider registered a .155 BAA last season. Per Baseball Savant's run value metric, Diaz's slider was tied for third-best in the game last season.
2024 Outlook: In 2024, we can expect much of the same from Diaz, in that he's unchallenged for saves, and while he'll walk a few batters, he's going to rack up the strikeouts in bunches, and it weren't for a late season drought in terms of his strikeout rate (14.9 K% over final 8.2 IP), he could have made a serious push for 100 strikeouts. Diaz has a very real chance of recording 30 saves and 90+ strikeouts this season, while posting a sub-3.00 ERA for the second time in the past three years.
