MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 6/6
Mets vs. Rockies Predictions
Let’s start this write-up here by acknowledging that the Rockies are coming off a series where they swept the Marlins on the road! What a feat from this band of misfits, but sadly, they are going to bounce back to reality tonight in a big way as they go toe to toe with the Mets. The Rockies are still just 6-22 at home this season, and Anthony Senzatela is on the mound, so that equals good things for the New York.
Senzatela in the month of May was an absolute trainwreck in every facet of the game, allowing 33 runs, 48 hits, and 12 walks over 28.2 innings pitched! Zooming out on the splits, he is also allowing a .348 OBA in home starts and is terrible against both righty and lefty hitters, allowing a .409 average and 1.022 OPS against the lefties and .341 average and .966 OPS against righties. If you couldn’t tell by now, we are going to load up on the Mets tonight.
The first wager will be on the Mets to go over 6.5 team total runs tonight, which is normally a huge number, but at Coors Field, it is more acceptable, especially considering they are coming off a series against the Dodgers where they posted 20 runs over 4 games, the offense is cooking again! Then there’s a batter to back tonight, and it must be Pete Alonso, who is hitting .357 with a 1.276 OPS over the past 7 games. He has 24 total bases during that stretch with 5 runs scored and 12 RBIs as well. Over 2.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs shouldn’t be a problem for him tonight against this Rockies pitching staff.

Mariners vs. Angels Predictions
Nothing like a divisional matchup to kick off a weekend on the west coast as the Mariners are down in Southern California to take on the Angels! Game 1 will feature a pair of pitchers that have struggled this season as Bryce Miller takes the hill for Seattle and Kyle Hendricks for Los Angeles, with the latter in for a long night.
Hendricks pitched 36 innings in the month of May and gave up an ERA of 4.5, which isn’t terrible, but it's not great either. During that span, he collected just 26 strikeouts, allowed 38 hits, and, on the season, he is allowing an OPS of .790. Miller, on the other hand, is a good pitcher who is going through a slump right now, allowing 14 runs over his last 13 innings pitched with just 6 strikeouts. Luckily for him, the Angels' offense has been slumping and is down to scoring just 3.52 runs per game. I believe he bounces back today and that propels the Mariners to a road win with good value on the Money Line.
To help the Mariners get their win, they will be leaning on their catcher, the “big dumper” Cal Raleigh. The soon-to-be all-star switch hitter has been awesome the last 7 days, hitting .333 with an even 1.000 OPS that includes 5 home runs, 12 RBIs, and 6 runs scored. He is always one swing of the bat away from cashing props, and I enjoy betting on hitters like that, so give me Raleigh to go over 2.5 hits/runs/RBIs tonight against Hendricks, who allows quite a bit of hard contact and should again tonight.

Alex Wood announced his retirement from professional baseball after 12 seasons.
Wood made the announcement on Friday in a social media post. The well-traveled 34-year-old southpaw hangs up his cleats after a 12-year career that includes stops with the Braves, Dodgers, Reds, Giants and Athletics. He finished with a solid 3.78 ERA across 1,258 innings (278 appearances, 211) starts in the majors dating back to 2013. The former second-round pick made his lone All-Star Game appearance for the Dodgers back in 2017 when he finished as a down-ballot Cy Young Award candidate.
Shohei Ohtani scored twice while going 3-for-5 in a win over the Blue Jays on Friday.
Ohtani doubled and singled twice. The reigning MVP is now 12-for-27 in the month of August (.444) with a homer and three stolen bases over those seven games. He also pitches.
Mookie Betts hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs to help the Dodgers to a 5-1 win Friday over the Blue Jays.
Clayton Kershaw struck out four over six innings of one-run baseball to get a win Friday against the Blue Jays.
Max Scherzer took a loss despite allowing just two runs over six innings against the Dodgers on Friday.
Casey Schmitt hit a two-run homer in a win Friday over the Nationals for the Giants.
Schmitt’s two-run blast off Jake Irvin doubled the Giants’ lead to 4-0. The 26-year-old has swung the bat well with an OPS of .914 in the month of August, which is nice to see after he forged just a .510 OPS in July.
