Spencer Torkelson went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer on Thursday as the Tigers rallied to beat the Angels 10-4 in the opener of their four-game series in Los Angeles.

Torkelson had been 0-for-4 on the evening before victimizing Garrett McDaniels for a 386-foot (102.9 mph EV) two-run shot in the ninth inning that extended the Tigers’ lead to 10-4. Torkelson has been an integral part to the Tigers’ hot start to the 2025 season, slashing .239/.353/.549 with a team-leading nine homers and 26 RBI.

Dillon Dingler homered and drove in three runs on Thursday, helping to lead the Tigers past the Angels on Thursday evening in Los Angeles.

Dingler put the exclamation point on a five-run uprising in the eighth inning with a 409-foot (101.0 mph EV) three-run blast off of Reid Detmers that gave the Tigers a 7-4 lead they would never relinquish. He also singled twice in the contest. The 26-year-old has been among the top offensive catchers in the league to open the 2025 season, slashing .291/.299/.500 with four homers and 15 RBI.

Gleyber Torres went 3-for-3 with a solo homer on Thursday, but was removed from the Tigers’ victory over the Angels due to an apparent injury.

Torres had homered, singled twice and drawn a walk in four plate appearances in the ballgame before exiting. He didn’t look right running to first base on his leadoff single in the eighth inning though, prompting the Tigers to pull him from the game. Torres already missed time earlier in the season due to an oblique strain that he suffered while hitting a home run, so this is certainly something that fantasy managers should pay attention to.

Casey Mize picked up his fifth victory of the season on Thursday, holding the Angels to four runs on seven hits over his seven frames.

Mize punched out four opposing batters in the contest while issuing a pair of walks. He struggled to keep the ball in this one, giving up a solo homer to Logan O’Hoppe in the second inning and a two-run shot to Jorge Soler in the third. He stuck around to help out a depleted bullpen though, finishing his day with three scoreless frames and ultimately earning a victory. He got 13 whiffs on 95 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 25 percent. Now 5-1 on the year, he’ll bring an impressive 2.70 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 27/9 K/BB ratio (36 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s showdown against the Rockies in Colorado.

Logan O’Hoppe went 2-for-4 and belted his ninth home run of the season on Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough to power the Angels past the Tigers.

The hard-hitting backstop opened the scoring in the ballgame in the second inning with a 408-foot (102.4 mph EV) solo shot off of Casey Mize. He also led off the fourth inning with a single but was ultimately erased on a double play. The 25-year-old has been outstanding to start the 2025 season, slashing .280/.309/.581 with nine homers and 15 RBI.

Yusei Kikuchi pitched well in a no-decision against the Tigers on Thursday night, giving up two runs on five hits over his five innings of work.

The 33-year-old left-hander racked up five strikeouts on the evening while issuing only one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball as Javier Baez and Gleyber Torres each swatted solo home runs in the third inning. Kikuchi generated eight swings and misses on 93 pitches in the ballgame, posting a CSW of 27 percent. Still searching for his first victory of the season, Kikuchi will tote a 4.21 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and a 33/19 K/BB ratio (36 1/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Blue Jays.
