MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 5/26
Rockies vs. Cubs Predictions
A new series is underway on this holiday Monday between the Rockies and Cubs, and Operation Pick on Colorado is once again in motion. The Rockies are a pathetic 3-22 on the road this season and will play a Cubs team that is 15-10 at home and has a +91-run differential! This is a lopsided as it gets, but let’s dive into the wagers.
Carson Palmquist will start on the mound for Colorado, and it’ll be just the 3rd start of the season. It’s a small sample size, but one worth attacking as he has allowed 16 hits and 11 earned runs in 8.1 innings pitched and has struggled against both righties and lefties with an OPS over 1.000 on both sides of the plate! This makes the Cubs team total very appealing in terms of runs scored as they are the 2nd highest scoring home team this season at 5.91 runs per game. Their prop sits at just 4.5, so I am smashing the over on that one!
The next wager is backing a Cubbie batter and there’s nobody in their lineup right now hotter than Seiya Suzuki! The left fielder comes into this game hitting .480 over the past 6 games with 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 9 runs, the guy is one fire. He should have little issue going over 1.5 hits/runs/RBIs today in front of the home crowd against this pitching staff so let’s hammer this prop!
Pick: Cubs Team Total Over 4.5 Runs (-135 on DraftKings)
Pick: Seiya Suzuki (CHC) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-150 on DraftKings)
Cardinals vs. Orioles Predictions
It’s a battle of the birds this afternoon in Baltimore as the Orioles host the St. Louis Cardinals, and I see some runs in the future of this game! Charlie Morton is going to start for the O’s, and he’s washed up at this point in his career, and it's ugly. On the Cardinals' side, Erick Fedde is going to shove, and while he has been good this year, he does have games where the blowup happens.
Starting with Morton on the mound for Baltimore, it's just a mess like the rest of their starting pitching staff. The veteran has pitched just 41 innings this season but has allowed 35 earned runs and 48 hits during that span! He’s also been horrendous against right-handed hitting, allowing a batting average of .329 and an OPS of .903, which is bad news since the Cardinals have great bats on the right side of the plate. Fedde, on the other side of things, is good, but there’s just something there I am not buying, and I am expecting regression as he has an expected ERA of 5.12. The Orioles, with their faults, still have good bats in the lineup, so I am expecting this matchup to go over the total of 8.5 runs.
In addition to the total, let’s back a hitter to help us get to the over! That man will be Masyn Winn today as he’s hit the ball well of late, including a couple of homers from the shortstop. He is hitting .323 against right-handed pitching this season and has 24 runs scored, which is tied for the team lead. He will hit 2nd in the Cardinals lineup today against Morton, and that’s an ideal spot to be in to go over 1.5 hits/runs/RBIs, so let’s go ahead and lock in that player prop for Winn.
Pick: Cardinals & Orioles Over 8.5 Runs (-130 on DraftKings)
Pick: Masyn Winn (STL) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-155 on DraftKings)
Best MLB Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 5/26
Pick: Jung Hoo Lee (SF) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-130 on DraftKings)
Pick: Garrett Crochet (BOS) Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-150 on DraftKings)
Pick: Padres Money Line (-150 on DraftKings)
Pick: Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LAD) Under 6.5 Strikeouts (-130 on DraftKings)
Pick: Blue Jays & Rangers 1st 5 Innings Under 3.5 Runs (-110 on DraftKings)
Player News
Yankees optioned LHP Jayvien Sandridge to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Sandridge was up for Sunday’s game against the Orioles. He returns to the minors to make room for Allan Winans to come up and start Monday’s series opener against the Reds.
Casey Mize was removed from Sunday’s start against the Rays for precautionary reasons due to cramping.
It’s a massive relief that Mize is not hurt after experiencing some diminished velocity prior to leaving Sunday’s start in the sixth inning. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that he dealt with some cramping with temperatures in the 90’s and the heat index touching triple digits in Tampa Bay. The 28-year-old righty should be ready to take the ball on Saturday against the Twins.
Didier Fuentes will start on Wednesday against the Mets.
Fuentes flashed some big-time stuff on Friday in his exciting major-league debut against the Marlins when he allowed four runs over five innings. The precocious 20-year-old righty will get another turn in Atlanta’s rotation while ace Chris Sale is on the injured list with a fractured ribcage. He’s worthy of a speculative pickup in deeper mixed leagues based on his strikeout potential.
Wenceel Pérez went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI in a 9-3 win over the Rays on Sunday.
Pérez has been good since coming off the IL, slashing .296/.346/.648 in 22 games with six home runs and 13 RBI. Pérez has seen gains in his exit velocities and is pulling the ball in the air more than he did in his rookie season. With Matt Vierling sidelined, Pérez has become the regular right fielder for the Tigers and is worth adding in deeper formats.
Parker Meadows went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a win over the Rays on Sunday.
Meadows has gotten off to a slow start this season, slashing .172/.262/.345 with two home runs and seven RBI. However, he did miss three months with a nerve issue in his arm, so some rust should be expected. He came into today with a 90.3 mph average exit velocity and 7.7 percent barrel rate with an above-average swinging strike rate and contact rate. His defense is going to keep him in the lineup, so we expect him to continue rounding into form. Don’t give up on him yet.
Junior Caminero went 2-for-4 with a home run in a loss to the Tigers on Sunday.
Caminero hit a 379-foot shot that left the bat at 100.1 mph for his 19th home run and 50th RBI of the season. He also added a 108.2 mph single later in the game. The 21-year-old has gone 19-for-72 (.264) in June with six home runs and 13 RBI and been a real asset for fantasy managers, even if there is no speed to go along with everything else he does.
